“Simply Perfect!!”

Reviewed 24 Jul 2015

Jeff came through for us with flying colors! He was extremely responsive, respectful, and honest. This cabin was AMAZING! It is just like the pictures so no surprises and very clean! We actually met the cleaning staff because we arrived a bit early for check-in and they were very accommodating and did a great job. Can I tell you we LOVED the high counter tops, shower head and toilet!! It sounds funny but my husband and I are tall so this was perfect for us. We brought our dog and she loved exploring outside; the deck was also a huge hit! I definitely recommend going on Google to take a look at the 2nd way up the driveway! It was MUCH easier then going up the gravel rd; I believe it was Tanner Trail. The price was great, the cabin was clean, Jeff was wonderful to deal with and we will definitely be back!

“Defense”

Reviewed 2 Oct 2014

I am writing this in defense of the Owner. We stayed there for one week. He was more than helpful and a pleasure to deal with. The ad on dogfrienly.com explained exactly the road leading to the cabin. If you've been in that area at all, most of the places on mountain tops are like this and even worse. If you're smart enough you can explore or read others comments in the book in the cabin to find an easier way to the cabin. My husband and I have been visiting that area now for 8 yrs and rented several places, even one that was $2,000 for the week. Jeffs cabin beats them all and we will definitely return again. Thanks Jeff

“Beware of Jeff Wilkes!”

Reviewed 10 Mar 2014

We rented in Feb and I checked with Jeff before traveling 12 hours from Florida because there was a winter storm in the area. He confirmed in writing that the roads were accessible and that I would have no trouble with my 4WD. He does not mention that the entire road all the way up (through the trailer park) is not paved...its gravel and pot holes which were covered with solid ice with 10" of snow on top. My truck didn't make it up half of the first hill before it almost slid off the side and was stuck. We had to hike a mile up the mountain in snow and ice with our dogs since it was getting dark and about 15 degrees. I had to call someone to help get my truck down (as well as the owner who had no idea of the storm apparently). Long story short, we were stuck there all night until I hiked out the next morning and met one of the neighbors that let me know about another available cabin (with a paved road). I told Jeff we were leaving because the cabin was inaccessible and he apologized and promised to work it out fairly...well its been 3 weeks and he refuses to refund my money for the nights we didn't stay (we stayed 12 hours total). Meanwhile it cost me an extra $500 for another cabin for the next 4 nights, but at least our last three days of vacation were saved. We also were disgusted when we removed the sheets and pillow cases from the bed to leave on the washing machine to find that one of the pillows we used was covered in blood stains! We also covered the sofa with a sheet beacaue it had a terrible odor. Jeff claims to know nothing about it, but then claimed that existing black and blue carpet stains were blood stains from one of our dogs paws that was cut from hiking through the ice on the way up. I don't know how there are no negative reviews on this site since one of the neighbors claimed that he has spoken to more than a few people that left Jeff's cabin the same day based on the road conditions during good weather.

Response from the owner This client arrived as winter storm "Pax" dumped a foot of snow and freezing rain on the southeast U.S. When we spoke prior to their arrival, the road was accessible and in the description of the property, there is a clear explanation of the type of road and what travelers can and shpuld expect. Prior to this guests arrival, there have never been any unpleasant odors, stains or damage. I invite everyone to read the unsolicited reviews that are on this an other sites ove the past 4-5 years that it has been available to rent. In every case, clients make mention of the remarkable condition and quality of the furnishings. What really puzzles me is that despite the fact that I have no control over the weather, I DID reimburse the client exactly what he asked for and he agreed to withdraw this negative review. Perhaps he forgot to withdraw this posting, but it should be noted that he did indeed get the amount he requested and is still making claims to the contrary.

“Misleading ad”

Reviewed 12 Nov 2013

First, my intent in not to harm the rental potential of this cabin, but when someone takes hard earned money and valuable vacation time off from work they deserve not to be surprised by misleading advertisement of a vacation rental. This cabin is advertised as a secluded, peaceful get away. The first thing you see as you pull off Jonathan Creek Road is a pit bull chained to a tree acting aggressively towards strangers - I never saw a mountain stream, as depicted with the Border Collies playing. Again, it is advertised as, "Mountain Cabin with Stunning Views!" The view off the deck is shown as a beautiful mountain vista - not so quick. Under that layer of fog is a 4 lane highway, cluster of commercial buildings, homes and various other structures. This cabin is not off the beaten path - it sets directly off a 4 lane road on the side of a hill. The cabin itself is very nice, but again it is not advertised accurately. It is not suitable for children - there are signs throughout the cabin warning of "Do's and Don'ts". It is not suitable for the elderly, nor is it wheelchair accessible. During our stay the heat did not work - never got warmer than 52 degrees. The owner had been told by the previous renters that they also had problems with the heat, but rather than call a Hvac company, he deferred to his janitorial service. My wife says thank you!

Response from the owner I don't understand this persons complaint. The heat was fixed within hours by the fastest company that could fix the problem. There is nothing misleading about the ad or pictures.
