- Very Good
We truly enjoyed our stay. It is a beautiful cabin and the staff was super friendly. It was in a great wooded location with privacy.
“Wish I could live here”
It was great to have a cabin that felt luxurious but also felt like it could be home. We picked the cabin for privacy and got everything we asked for. A little surprised at the lack of wildlife and hoping that was not by design :( , but absolutely enjoyed the deck. The hot tub was perfect! The beds were very comfortable. Went with the intention of heavy hiking as we had a previous visit to the hills, but didn't want to leave our cabin! :) Would just suggest a few small baskets be provided in the kitchen for keeping fresh fruit, etc.
“Our stay at Elk”
We loved our stay in Hocking Hills - it is truly a must see destination! We stayed in a little cabin called Elk that was simply adorable. It was very expensive though (close to $300 for one night)so that was a bit of a drawback. The hot tub and fireplace were both great touches, and the staff at check-in was very friendly. We'll visit Hocking Hills again, but we'll stay somewhere less pricey.
“clean, cozy, cute cabin”
We really enjoyed our stay at the Elk. We found Old Man's Cave Chalets' service to be great - clearly communicating what amenities they offered and suggestions on what we needed to bring. Check-in was friendly. One of the amenities we wanted was a wood-burning fireplace...we were thrilled with the stone fireplace in the cabin with the comfortable leather couch right in front of it. It was a very enjoyable way to spend a winter's evening. The cabin was very clean and attractively decorated. We felt right at home. The thing we like least was the location...it was a little too remote for us, feeling like there was no one around if we needed anything in the middle of the night. It was almost too quiet outside, with not one bird, deer, or squirrel to be seen. We would definitely look to stay with Old Man's Cave Chalet in the future...we would just pick a cabin closer to the park.
“The perfect getaway!”
This was our first time staying with Old Mans's Cave Chalets. We rented ELK for our annual girls getaway weekend. The service we received was outstanding. Everyone we spoke to both before and during our stay was friendly and helpful. The cabin was charming, immaculate and very comfortable. The setting is very private and the view is beautiful, especially in the snow! Our weekend was cut short due to loss of power in the entire area caused by a winter storm. However, we were refunded the cost of our weekend in the form of a gift certificate. We have already made our reservations to return and are looking forward to our next stay. We did upgrade to a cabin with two bathrooms....one bathroom with four women is a little tight! Everything else was perfect!

My issues are essentially the same this year as they were last year when we stayed at the Timber Ridge. The issues were mainly the housekeeping effort. Last year we found dog poop in the downstairs closet..it had been there a while luckily and was hardened because unfortunately I found it by stepping on it. This year, I found broken glass in the ELK by the kitchen table and spent over a half hour picking it out of my foot. Additionally, the bathroom was not very clean at all ..there was a huge wad of hair on the floor and the tub and floor and wood walls were very dirty. I didnt even mention it to mgmt because last year I did tell them about the dog poop and they didnt even offer a discount..So, we thought we would give it one more try this year but again were let down. The Hocking Hills area is beautiful and the hot tub appeared clean..not sure why they put the hot tub right in plain view of the road though. I dont know that I enjoyed the home so much as just enjoyed time away.. ELK did have nice large windows/doors that we were able to look out and see the deer bedded down in the woods in fresh fallen snow..that was a plus I guess.
This was my third year in a row that I have rented this cabin. and as before everything was wonderful. I will probably stay again and recommend your cabins to others.
My husband and I rented the Elk looking for a peaceful weekend getaway from everyday life. We couldn't have asked for a better cabin. The cabin was immaculate upon our arrival and, unlike some of the other cabins we passed along the way, had an adequate amount of privacy. Service at the office was wonderful and we were able to check in a couple of hours earlier than planned. The only complaint we have is the smell of the water!
Although we didnt require any service while in the cabin the service we did recieve while checking in was great. We were informed of all the local resteraunts and were given a map to help us navigate to and from the cabin. The home itself was breath-taking and offers everything a couple could hope for in a relaxing getaway. The location was also excellent being that it is very secluded, yet still close enough to all the attractions. We would highly recommend this cabin to anyone inquiring and will be returning atleast once a year.
Response from the manager Thank you so much for taking the time to review the Elk. We appreciate your comments on our "front desk staff"....we strive to provide excellent customer service to our valued customers .....YOU! Please visit us again soon.....maybe for the holidays or the winter walk.....Thank you again!
“More than words can say.”
I've been wanting to visit the area and stay at one of the chalets for at least 15 years. Finally after being together for 20 yrs, my husband and I found time to travel to the Hocking Hills area. What was going to be a romantic weekend alone turned into an amazingly unexpected getaway when we brought our 10 yr old daughter along. The caves and trails were enchanting and unbelieveable and the chalet was a retreat in itself. There's lots to see and do or you can do nothing and never leave the chalet. I plan on giving my oldest son a gift card so he and his fiance don't have to wait 20 yrs like I did.
Response from the manager Thank you for taking the time to write a review on your stay. We're glad you enjoyed the area, and hope you won't wait another 20 years to visit us again! Gift cards are a great idea for the holidays! Thank you again!
