Just got back from 2 weeks in Cabana #1 and it was as wonderful as other reviewers described. From beginning to end, June and art were warm and gracious hosts. My husband and I are early risers and art figured out the perfect time to set the breakfast tray outside the room. We enjoyed the lounge chairs and hammock on the beach, spending most of our days reading and playing Scrabble. My husband loves the sun while I prefer shade and there was plenty of both. Most days we had the loungers and hammocks to ourselves. Having a rental car would make it easier to get around, but on vacation we prefer not to have to drive. We did rent a car for one day and went to the biosphere. We'd heard the road was rough, and it was, so we only drove a few miles to a restaurant where we spent a couple of hours on the beach and had lunch. The view of the ocean and lagoon from the rooftop bar was amazing. Another time, we'd love to get all the way to Punta allen. For dinner, we had plenty of options - a short walk to the restaurants at Casa Cenote or Blue Sky, a taxi to town, or cooking simple meals in the outdoor kitchen. The gas grill, two burners, cutting board and a few pots and pans were all we needed. Art and June were quick to provide any utensils or supplies we needed. The grounds are beautifully maintained, the room was clean and comfortable and the view was spectacular. We rarely go to the same place twice, but we just may be back to this slice of paradise.
My wife and I stayed at Slice of Paradise for three weeks (Feb/Mar 2012) and loved our stay. Our son, wife and two grandchilden stayed with us for one week and another friend stayed with us for another week. We moved between Cabana One and Casita. June and art are wonderful hosts and accommodated our needs for various arrangements; they are great people and very interesting to visit with and to get to konw. The location is totally relaxing and the ocean is so close that it lulled us to sleep every night. The beach is not a swimming beach but is a nice snokeling beach. The relaxed vibe seems to attract interesting people and we enjoyed meeting and visiting with the other guests during our stay. The snorkeling at the nearby cenote was excellent. The margaritas at Casa Cenote (across the road from the cenote) were great..two margaritas are okay but just barely (you might not want to order that third one if you want to find your way home). We had a wonderful vacation and highly recommend Slice of Paradise.
“Perfect Place to Relax, Heal, Smile & Sun”
This wonderful little B & B is a gem. I feel so blessed to have found this delightful property for me and my two young children. Art and June provided a safe, comfortable and friendly atmosphere for my family. We enjoyed hanging out around the bonfire at night, sleeping underneath our mosquito nets beneath the palapa roof, and walking out to the beach each morning with our hot tea and freshly baked pastries. My children ask me on a weekly basis..."mom, how soon can we go back to Tankah Bay, Mexico?". You will not regret your decision to stay here...it is peaceful from the moment to step on the property.
“The absolute best place to stay in all of the Mayan Riviera”
Your own private beach! This is the only place we will ever stay at in all of the Mayan. June and art are without a doubt the most hospitable hosts any family could ever dream of. The property is magnificent, the Cabana's are impeccably kept with everything one could ever ask for and all just feet away from the ocean front. We have stayed here for may years and have been there as newlyweds right up to our last visit with a 3 year old and a 1 year old and all couldn't ask for anything better. The pictures just don't do this property justice and once you have been you will never search for another place again. The Owners are americans who have been there for over 20 years so they know the area as if they were born there and will always take the time to divulge all the little gems that this part of the world has to offer, and the snorkeling right out front of the house is some of the best we have experienced anywhere in the world. If you are looking to visit this part of the world then you can stop looking any further for a place to stay because it just doesn't get better than this, and we have been to the Mayan over 2 dozen times in the last 10 years and always end up back here. Don't change a thing and we can't wait to come back soon.
“Amazing, Truly Postcard Perfect, Great Hosts!”
I stayed in 2 of arturo & June's cabanas. Both were so well designed. I loved the space and decor. Arturo & June are really kind, helpful hosts. The photo they show of the beach is actually the beach and what you actually see from Cabana 1. The rooms look just like the photos! Really charming. The beach chairs and hammock were great. I really did not want to go anywhere once I got there. It was very peaceful and quiet. The cabanas have a fridge and plenty of filtered water, so you can have icy cold drinks on the beach. Breakfast with really good coffee was waiting every morning when I got up. June gave me some good guidance on where to snorkel in Tankah Bay and I did look for and see manta rays after she told me about them. Yay! The water is super calm and warm. I wish I had brought some shoes to protect my feet in the bay; there's lots of coral. I especially enjoyed snorkeling in Manatee Cenote. I didn't know what the big deal would be until I did it. You can walk there early in the morning to beat the crowds, then have eat across the street at Casa Cenote and snorkel from the beach where the cenote comes up in the ocean. It's really cool. For a full breakfast, I'd recommend Tankah Inn. For all other meals, I ate at Casa Cenote which is outdoors (nice). Both are easy walking distance and the owners and workers at both are super nice. I took taxis to / from Tulum town for other meals. I would definitely have liked to have a car to explore some of nearby bays, beaches and cenotes, but then again, I was very happy to also stay put at arturo's Cabana #1.
