“Getting away from everything but luxury”
Smithville Cottage is a beautifully restored 1930 bungalow with 21st century amenities like a gourmet kitchen, comfortable king-size bed, thoughtfully selected books and videos, and a huge deck for grilling and relaxing. We used the cottage as a comfortable base for our circuit of area court houses, train depots, antique stores, and historical sights. It's a great place for two or three days of down home quiet.
Response from the owner Thank you so much. I do hope you will return to tour Bone Distillery, Buescher State Park, Murphy's Steak House and a few other attractions you may have missed. It was wonderful having you as our guest and I hope you will come back again some time.
“I'll be back!”
You know how Dorothy said, "There's no place like home"? Well, she obviously never stayed at Smithville Cottage. This place is cute, cute, cute, super-comfy and clean! Pristine kitchen and baths. Soaring ceilings. Charming architectural details. Beautiful modern amenities under a historic roof. And luxurious beds I challenge you to stay awake in... Your biggest problem during your stay at Smithville Cottage will be dragging yourself away from its many comforts to go enjoy the rest of the town! I live in Los angeles and will admit to being surprised by Smithville. I was ready for mint juleps, slow summer strolls and lazy lunches. And that's all there for you. But don't be fooled by the serene country setting. Smithville and its friendly locals serve up enough personality and entertainment to keep you on your toes all day and into the night. There's the sprawling Diamond Y Farm, where I was invited to take pics and cavort with the free-range chickens before leaving with some of the finest, fattest eggs I've had the pleasure of eating. There's kayaking the Colorado. And there's "Smitty" and the railroad museum, where we were regaled with stories of Smithville's history as a railroad town. The streets of downtown Smithville are lined with antique stores, and don't forget to stop in to the fantastic craftsman woodworking shop. The owner alone will make it worth your while. What a charmer! In the evening, explore restaurant options in and around Smithville, or fire up the grill on the deck at Smithville Cottage and put that gorgeous chef's kitchen to good use! For the night owls, I highly recommend popping into Heubel's for a beer and a mingle with the locals. It's a real "pull up a chair and join us" kind of place. Loved it! All in all, my stay at Smithville Cottage was a delicious cocktail of friendly locals, fun day trips, perfect accommodations and some of the best sleep I've had in ages. My only regret is I didn't stay longer. Next time... :)
“Smithville Cottage-A Great Weekend away!”
Smithville Cottage is a great get-away for couples or a girls weekend. We were fortunate to stay there for Easter and enjoyed the peace and quiet. The cottage has all the amenities that you would need. All the rooms are very inviting and the beds are very comfortable. The kitchen is state of the art! If you enjoy cooking this is the place to stay. Smithville is ideally located close to Buescher State Park, Bastrop, Round Top and only forty miles from austin.
“Loved our stay!!”
My best friend and I rented this lovely cottage the last weekend of antiques Week! The home was so comfortable and beautifully decorated! The owner is a delight to work with! I couldn't think of a better place to just get away and relax!
Response from the owner thank you!
“Great house with excellent host”
We stayed at the Smithville cottage for a weekend. The house is precious and has everything you could ask for. The kitchen is made for a gorrmet, it had a great back deck, the home is cozy and could easily sleep 4 with plenty of extras space. wifi, The decore is tasteful and makes you not want to leave. It is on a quiet steet in the historical smithville. The host provides great updates of activities going on including the small playhouse that we visited. In addition, she had information in the home about the local hospital. I would never think we would need that and I would never have guess the town had a hospital. We had a kidney stone and can't tell you how happy i was to notice the town had a hospital. I can't wait to come back. No kidney stone next time. It felt like you were at a friends home. Great value!
Response from the owner Thank you so much!
“Perfect place to unwind!”
My mother was visiting from Florida and I wanted to show her some of the surrounding areas outside of austin. We stayed at Smithville Cottage and it was delightful! The owners have thought of everything. The cottage has been recently updated and everything was pristine and perfect. We so enjoyed rocking on the front porch and hanging out on the back deck. The amenities were lovely. I highly recommend this place for a getaway.
“Our long weekend at Smithville Cottage”
Condensed from blog post: Smithville Cottage is a charming home and my family and I had the privilege of staying there over the Thanksgiving holidays. The first thing you notice when you approach the cottage are the large oak trees that sit on the adjoining property and the welcoming front porch. Once you enter the home there is no doubt the kitchen, completely updated but designed to emulate the original feel and age of the house, is the star attraction. I don't enjoy cooking, but I loved preparing our Thanksgiving dinner in that kitchen. The top of the line appliances were a treat and every imaginable kitchen utensil and gadget were at my disposal. The cottage is small, two bedrooms and less than 1700 sq. feet, but it has a very roomy feel to it. Our two boys, 17 & 22, made the Texas Room their home away from home and we were pleasantly surprised to find that their movie could not be heard from the front bedroom after we had retired to bed. The king sized bed by the way is a little piece of heaven on earth. After enjoying our morning cup of coffee on the front porch and serving up a big breakfast of homemade waffles and fresh yard eggs, we took off on our bikes and explored Smithville. We investigated the trains on display at the museum, spent time down by the river and cruised the streets of the historic district. Saturday, our third day, was devoted to exploring Bastrop about 15 minutes north of Smithville. A big town compared to Smithville, we parked and walked the downtown shopping area. Like Smithville it retains the charm of yesteryear and is comprised of boutiques, antique shops and eating establishments. On Sunday, we packed a picnic, loaded the bikes and headed to Buescher State Park on the outskirts of Smithville. There we parked and rode the 12 mile private road that connects the park to the Bastrop State Park. We found ourselves wanting for nothing and completely embracing small town life. Would happily recommend to anyone.
Response from the owner Thank you so much for the kind words. I do hope you will visit again soon.
