“OUTSTANDING LUXURIOUS PLACE TO STAY”
We were very lucky to stay in the Dutch House, my husband had recently had an operation and we went to the Dutch house for a change of scenery and to relax and unwind. Everything was perfect, from the second you walked in, to the moment we sadly had to leave. An outstanding property with everything you could possibly need for a luxurious stay in York. A very warm homely welcome with a surprise hamper of chocolates, biscuits and wine. Beautifully restored with so many luxury items throughout. Perfect location, shops, restaurants, cafes, and the history of York all a short walk away from the Dutch House, no need for the car, you can leave it behind in the FREE secure car parking space. Wonderful historical place to stay.
“a comfortable home from home”
the Dutch House is very well appointed with all you could need for your stay. It is located within the old city walls and is a short walk from the centre of York. We had a lovely stay and would not hesitate in returning to this lovely house.
The Dutch House is amazing. It is located within the city walls and is in easy walking distance of all that York city centre has to offer (and that is a lot!) The house is almost 400 years old and believed to be the oldest brick house in York and as a consequence it is on the tourist trail. Groups of tourists regularly stopped outside the house to hear all about it from the tour guide and take pictures. The city is very safe and has a great, vibrant, friendly atmosphere in the evening so the location couldn't have been better. We stayed with three young children and being able to easily return to the house during the day when they were tired was very convenient. Thoughtfully, there was a selection of games for the kids. All that was needed to make the place safe for them was our portable baby gate. The house was very luxurious and it was a real pleasure to return to it after a day sightseeing. We had intended to spend more time travelling around but we were so enchanted by the city that we spent virtually every day of our week long stay in York. I only have a few minor criticisms and suggestions. It would be good to have a shower screen for the bath in the top bedroom to help avoid getting water on the floor. The availability of a high chair would be a helpful addition as it is impractical to bring one along. Finally, the cleanliness of the house was something we noted. In particular, the floors weren't as clean as they could have been. Colette was very friendly and accommodating and we would happily stay at The Dutch House again.
“The best self-catering in York”
I stayed at The Dutch House for two days in October with my wife and young daughter. We were impressed from the outset with the cleanliness and attention to detail, in what is a fabulously restored house. The house was decorated and furnished to a high standard. We visit York every year and don't think we'd consider staying anywhere else now. David, Carolyn and Mia
“A Few Days in York”
Staying a for a vacation at The Dutch House was a perfect way to unwind and see York at its best. Perfectly situated for touring the city on foot it was also a great to be able to quickly pop back at lunchtime or if you simply wanted to take the weight of your feet. The house itself is wonderful. Delightfully furnished, well equipped and extremely comfortable; you couldn't ask for much more. Easy access, gated parking and clear instructions from the owner helped make our break in York a delight. We will certainly visit again and would have no hesitation in recommending it to friends and family. Thank you Colette
“Amazing Stay in York 5 Stars!”
We arrived at the Dutch house which is located right in the heart of the City however when you arrive at the Dutch House you could be in the countryside, you can have the best of both worlds at this accomodation. The accomodation was very homely and had everything you wanted for your stay. I travelled with my husband and our two friends, each bedroom is located on its own floor with en-suite in each room, so it also has the perks of a hotel but a living area downstairs for meals and drinks. I cannot fault this accomodation. We will most definately be booking again for 2012.
“Family weekend visit to York”
Fantastic location with the added bonus of a secure parking space. We were able to do all our York sightseeing on foot from the house. Beautifully restored house, good size rooms, good compact kitchen. Hot shower, nice bath products and a really nice welcome basket. It was a bonus to have washer dryer as we were at the end of a two week break. Colette was very helpful in organising our stay. I would definitely recommend this property for anyone wanting a comfortable base in central York.
“superbly centrally located top quality accomodation”
The finishinng of this property is exceptional. The adjacent parking in a gated high security courtyard is extremeley comforting. The kitchen and bathroom facilities are firt class. The fact the property is kitted out with high end furnishings and fittings along with the secure parking is wonderful and what really sets this apart from other high end accomadation is its prime position inside the city walls. You can walk to all city centre attractions easilly which means you can attend restaurants and drink comfortably knowing you can walk home safely late at night. Just to highlight how safe I found york at night, I am an enthusiastic photographer and I was out walking around york at 12:30 on a friday night with a thousand pound camera on a tripod over my shoulder taking photographs of the minster and the shambles among the hen nights and stagparties who seemed to be very well behaved as they were the more mature kind of these groups.
“Characterful, well presented central York base, for touring.”
Excellent property, full of character and charm - well equipped, with many thoughtful details and extra's.
“Best self-catering accommodation in the UK”
We booked all our self-catering accommodation for our 7 weeks in the UK & Ireland over the internet from australia without recommendations. Some suggested this was risky but we sure hit the jackpot with The Dutch House in York. There was a welcome basket of top quality food and wine and the owner rang to welcome us and answer any questions shortly after our arrival. No expense has been spared with the furnishings, kitchen & bathroom supplies and the beds and lounge superbly comfortable. Has to be the best location in York (within walls of old town down a quiet side street) and the car-parking is very secure & easily accessed. Whilst there was only two of us, this accommodation would suit two couples or family with older children. Also, there are great restaurants just around the corner if you are too tired to cook. Absolutely no negatives about this location at all. Hope to return to The Dutch House one day.
