“Charming, but some disappointments”

Reviewed 22 Dec 2016

Gordonsville is a charming town, and is a great launching point for many area attractions. The town was lit up beautifully for Christmas -- it was a pleasure to drive through in the evenings. Our favorite meal there was at BBQ Exchange -- good, fresh food and generous portions! Food Lion is convenient for groceries and other needs, and there is a Redbox at Fas Mart in town. Shadetree Cottage sits just outside of town on a lovely farm. The cottage (parts of which date back to the Civil War) is quite charming and comfortable (other than a couple of things I'll mention below). We didn't cook much while we were there, but there seemed to be plenty of pots, pans, and accessories available, as well as basic spices and oils. Our hosts also provided all that was needed for a wonderful country breakfast, including farm fresh eggs. We found the bed (main bedroom) to be very comfortable; the living room furniture was comfortable and cozy, as well. The kitchen table will easily seat six. There's also a nice deck off the kitchen -- though it was a bit too cold during our stay to use it. The bathroom has obviously been updated at some point and has a half-size stand-up shower. In the interest of full disclosure, we do need to mention a couple of disappointments. During our stay, we found the water pressure to be extremely weak. We didn't have many dishes to wash and didn't do laundry, but the low pressure made showering a bit of a challenge. We also found the DVD player to be unreliable. Since TV service is limited to a few channels via antennae (rather than cable), this was disappointing. These were both surprises in such a lovely home, and for the rate we paid. If our hosts are able to remedy these things, however, we would heartily recommend Shade Tree Cottage.

Response from the owner Thank you Suzanne for letting us know that a water pressure problem has come about, I sincerely apologize and have called our plumber to rectify the problem. Also, some of those dvd's are old and we may need to discard them. My husband is checking the dvd player, we will replace it if necessary. I'm so sorry that you were disappointed, we strive to make every visit enjoyable. These problems will be rectified as soon as possible, thanks again for bringing them to our attention.

“Wonderful farm cottage retreat, enjoyed every minute, comfortable and relaxing”

Reviewed 7 Jul 2014

My wife and I and our greyhound Spyder enjoyed our stay at Shade Tree Cottage in Gordonsville. We went to a family reunion in Charlottesville and wanted some space. Wow beautiful cottage very comfortable and the owners Midge and Tom were so helpful and gave us lots of info on things to do and places to eat. Went touring at local wineries and with Charlottesville 30 minutes from away we had lots to keep us busy. The farm was the perfect retreat. They had well stocked kitchen and fresh eggs from the farm which made a great breakfast. We hope to go back and stay there next year. Thanks for your wonderful hospitality. Andy and Rita
