“Amazing Abruzzo”

Reviewed 15 Jul 2015

We stayed at Gaimia Villas for 6 nights and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Mike was a great host and always answered emails promptly and was very helpful prior to arrival. Arnie welcomed us and helped settle us in, providing beautiful white cherries from the garden and a welcoming bottle of wine. He even accompanied us to the supermarket in Sulmona. A very thoughtful man. The unit was spacious, well appointed, very clean and the massive balcony set it off beautifully, providing a magnificent outdoor space to admire the natural beauty of Abruzzo. The grounds surrounding the units were lovely to walk in and a credit to the work of Mike and Arnie. We had a car and were able to travel to many villages, including nearby Sulmona which was so rich in history. Mike and Arnie were able to help us with many suggestions of places to visit. Mike also included us in several culturally rich local experiences and these made our stay in Abruzzo particularly special. Thank you for opening our eyes to this stunning region of Italy and for providing such excellent, well priced and appointed units.

“"Embrace the Italian Lifestyle". Gia Mia bestows serenity and enjoyment for happiness.”

Reviewed 12 Nov 2014

The service I received from Mike, the owner, and Arnie, his right-hand man, was first-class, Italian style, at its finest. I was alone in a foreign country and was made to feel "right at home", from the many Gia Mia home-grown products placed at my door-step, to being invited to social events with the many varied friends of Arnie and Mike. I felt truly taken care of in a very safe and stress-free environment. I loved the property...a gorgeous Zen-like environment with fountains, roses, the Sagittario River ( a small waterway that rapidly runs and curves along the border of the grounds), vegetable gardens, walnut and fig trees, wild flowers and many paths to cross and intersect along the way. Gia Mia is conveniently located to Sulmona's main train station and the hub for bus transportation which both will take you to any destination you may desire. Sulmona is great for shopping as well as an educational learning experience in art history. It has a working Medieval Aquaduct where fresh mineral filled spring water pours from fountains for everyone to enjoy. I took day trips to several lovely villages in the Abruzzo Region. I especially enjoyed Scanno, a mountain-top village with Lake Scanno standing out so beautifully and a restaurant magically found: Ristorante Il Caminetto Pizzeria, where I tasted the best pasta fagioli ever known to mankind! The amenities at Gia Mia are abundant; it has everything one may need in a vacation rental: fully equipped kitchen, great shower pressure with hot water, and a veranda which includes the magnificent view of the Apennines Mountains. Minute by minute this panoramic vista changes in its natural beauty. I enjoyed having laundry facilities and also nearby hiking and walking trails that provided even more native surroundings. I loved the village of Campo di Fano where I experienced the true sense of the Italian love/passion for community, family and friends.. they count their blessings and savor every moment. I liked best the resources available at Gia Mia (Mike and Arnie). They speak both English and Italian; Mike adept in the history of the region and all aspects of locating ancestral relatives and Arnie, "You will never forget how they make you feel".... a fine quality to possess in the hospitality business. What I liked least: That I couldn't stay longer!! I would love to return someday for a shot of health and wellness in this Italian country-side- so many unique towns and villages easily accessible- where one may "Eat, Pray and Love" in beautiful, beautiful, beautiful Italy. What more could you ask for?

“A Hidden Gem”

Reviewed 6 May 2014

A friend and I stayed at GiaMia for one whole month in September/October and had an experience that both educated us and enriched our appreciation for another culture. The villa was so comfortable and after a day of exploring the rural countryside, it was a wonderful "home" to come back to. The large balcony at the back of the villa overlooked the interesting countryside and it was so peaceful to sit there during the warm evening or early morning air. Mike, the owner and our host, brought so many new experiences to our visit as he involved us in local activities and introduced us to people living in the village of Campo de Fano. All around us were fresh and organic vegetables and fruits that we were invited to use. We would wander the streets of Sulmona or travel by rental car to unknown destinations that provided all kinds of unplanned adventures. So much to talk about, but better still to go there and experience yourself. I can truly say that this was one of my best travel adventures ever!!

Response from the owner Thank you Toni and Allen, it was truly a pleasure to have you as our guests for a month at Giamia Villas, it was just as delightful for me to introduce you the local villagers and a treat to have you attend Church services with me. All our relatives were astonished at the way that you both took and became part of rural Italian life. Looking forward in the future to welcome you again with open arms.

“fantastic villa for our family reunion”

Reviewed 1 May 2014

We were very fortunate to find this fantastic villa for our family reunion. Family from the us, Australia and England all met at the family's historic homeland of Sulmona. The villa's rooms are more like suites or apartments than a standard hotel room. Large balcony, shared with a second room on that floor. Rooms on same floor can be joined (or not) by a common door between. Mike as a very gracious host and was very helpful in helping us get into and around Sulmona. Looking out to the hills and mountains was absolutely beautiful. We were able to take a nice hike from the villa up into the nearby mountains and towns. A great stay for a single, couple or group.

Response from the owner We at Giamia Villas, thank Dr. Dale and all his cousins that held their family reunion, a total of 15 people, we made available a hospitality suite so that all the cooking was done there. Two large tables were set up on the main floor balcony to accomodate them for breakfast, lunch and supper. Looking forward to their next reunion in 3 or 4 years.
