“Tranquility overlooking Galway Bay”

Reviewed 3 Apr 2014

Oranmore Castle Lodge provided a haven of calm, privacy and space to breathe, relax and unwind for me during my stay there. I watched magnificent sunsets over Galway Bay while sitting on the veranda listening to the birds coming home to roost and the lapping of the waves against the rocks. Being only 10 minutes from Galway city, I could indulge in city life when I wanted to and enjoy all that Galway has to offer. It is also located only 2 hours from the capital city, Dublin, by motorway, making Oranmore Castle Lodge the perfect retreat for some "me time " and fun. My mobile internet worked as well, so I could still connect to the "Matrix " when I felt the need.

“Bohemian heaven in Oranmore”

Reviewed 27 Mar 2014

Oranmore Castle Lodge is set back from the lively village of Oranmore, Co. Galway and is a lodge which is part of the beautiful and historic Norman tower which sits dramatically on the coast. It is owned by the talented, artistic and friendly Finn family (if you get some time to chat- they are a bunch of extraordinary people!). The lodge sits right next to the castle and is decorated by stone monkeys. I was charmed to find out it is affectionately known as The Monkey House by the family! The interior is beautiful and comfortable and has a warm feel. I loved the luxe bohmenian style and the artifacts the family has collected from around the world which decorate the rooms. I also loved the bathroom with its generous tub, exotic tiling and Thai carved doors. I felt like I was in a beautiful Turkish bath during my stay. The bedrooms were really comfortable and stylishly arranged but the piece de resistance was the living room and kitchen which is upstairs and has great glass windows which look out to sea and catches the sun in the morning. I had some peaceful breakfasts on the little outdoor balcony watching the sea. I came to Oranmore to relax and take time out from a busy schedule and found it a really beautiful spot to take in the glory of the West of Ireland coast. There are lots of walks you can take from the lodge too and its easy to get to national routes to explore the county. I loved the setting, the bohemian style, warm hospitality and also the proximity to the village of Oranmore and Galway city itself. The village (a 5 minute walk away) is a cute place to explore with pubs and restaurants and Galway is a bus ride or car ride away (6 miles). I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants a place to stay in Galway or to explore the West, a secluded place to recharge, a romantic hide-away or a comfortable holiday stay for a family, there are lots of bedrooms and space. It truly is one of Galway's hidden gems and a place not to be missed!
