“Excellent cabin on a beautiful lake -- the pictures don't do it justice!”

Reviewed 20 Jul 2016

My girlfriend and I took our four kids, ages 7-11, to this cabin for a five-day stay and couldn't have been more pleased with the cabin or the setting. As with any private cabin rental, there is some trepidation, but the owners were communicative and ensured us the only things we needed to bring were "fishing poles and a toothbrush." Other than a few small items, they were right. This cabin has all the comforts of home but absolutely retains a cabin-like feel. The kitchen and dining area are wide open and offer a breathtaking view of Roosevelt Lake, as do the bay windows in the main living room. The cabin is spacious, and even when traveling with a group of six, we never felt like we were tripping over one another. The kids loved it and spent five days swimming and fishing off the dock. The lake gets deep quickly, which means the kids could dive and splash and play all they wanted off the dock, as long as they were wearing their life jackets. It is a bit of a walk/hike up and down the hill and a couple flights of stairs to the dock, so keep that in mind if you're traveling with elderly people or really young children who might not handle steps the best. We loved it, though, as it only added to the ambiance of the whole trip. Also, there is a very small patch of flat ground and grass near the dock, so the kids were also able to wade into the lake and try to catch panfish with their hands in the lake's clear waters. Next to the cabin is a nice lawn where we had room to toss a baseball and football around, and it had a nice little firepit to boot. The town of Outing is only a couple minutes away, and it's a cute town that has the basics for what you might need for food or bait. The town of Emily is only about 10 minutes away and has a larger grocery store if you want to travel light and then stock up once you arrive, like we did. Both towns are charming ... we fell in love with them both. There is a recycling/garbage drop-off in Outing. The recycling center is open all the time, but there are specific times when you can drop off garbage in orange bags that must be purchased from the grocery or convenience stores in Outing. Our advice would be making sure you know the times the dump is open prior to leaving. We felt this cabin had it all -- plenty of room, good fishing (it took some work but we were able to find some spots on the lake where larger panfish/crappies could be found -- we did not try for walleye), good swimming and fires at night. Loons, deer, squirrels, chipmunks and more also round out the trip. The only bad part was leaving, as none of us wanted to go home. We're thankful for our time up there ... it was just what we all needed. If you're looking for a true cabin rental, this is it.
