Teac Chondai Thatched Cottage on The WILD ATLANTIC WAY offers self-catering accommodation in a traditional Donegal thatched cottage located in the quaint village of Loughanure. A tranquil setting combining traditional cottage features with open turf fire with a cosy living space and facilities, a perfect location for a relaxing holiday break.
The village Bar & Restaurant (just 3 mins walk) provides excellent value quality food, last orders 20.30. The local shop with cafe (just 2 mins walk) provides full breakfasts from only €5.00. Both are highly recommended.
There's an abundance of local activities, including lake, off- shore & sea fishing, coastal and hill hiking, horse riding, sea kayaking, bike hire, bird watching along with great local restaurant service local Donegal produce and great freshly caught sea food and friendly pubs with traditional Irish music.

“Attractive, comfortable and well-located cottage”
Teac Chondai Thatched Cottage in Loughanure is an attractive, well-appointed and spacious cottage, conveniently located for exploring Donegal -- within easy reach of Slieve League and Glen Colmkille, Arranmore, Glenveagh Castle and the Derryveagh Mountains and, though a little further afield, Fanad Head. Loughanure shop and pub (excellent meals) are close by, making it very practical for a self-catering holiday. Our only reservation was the extra cost (and hassle) of metered oil for hot water.

Response from the owner Thank you for your review comments, we are sorry your experience was not as good as you expected, we have taken your comments on board and have made corrective changes. The cottage heating is pay as you use, controlled by coin meter with credits only consumed when the highly efficient condensing oil boiler is on and burning oil. The cottage takes approx 20 mins to heat up and is always preheated on arrival, the boiler turns off and on intermittently to maintain a temperature, when the boiler is off it does not consume credits. Credits can also be saved by using the timer, radiator thermostats and the heating controls. Following your comments we have reduced the rate charged again to match current oil prices. Regarding cleaning, the cottage is cleaned fully for each turnover to maintain a high standard of cleanliness, we did have guest leave on the day of your arrival and perhaps the area you mention was not as clean as our normal standards on that occasion, we constantly review our cleaning procedures and we have again increased the thoroughness of these procedures following your comments. We would advise our guests to contact us during their stay if they have any concerns so we have a chance to respond and correct any issues. Regarding outside bins, the cottage is in a rural village with a once weekly bin collection on Tuesdays, we did have guests staying up to your arrival on Friday and the bins were fuller than normal with no opportunity to have them emptied, following your feedback we are adding more bins to prevent this occurring in future. We welcome all review comments and we have a high percentage of positive comments from guests from all around the world, we are sorry for your occasion you had some disappointments, we hope from our response and corrective actions you would consider our cottage again for another visit to this beautiful area of Donegal.

Response from the owner Hi Debbie, Thank you for your feedback on your stay in our Thatch cottage in Loughanure Co. Donegal. I am delighted to hear that you found your stay in Teac Chondai Thatch cottage, cosy, comfortable, and our housekeeper friendly. Dunloe is a great town and still retains all the charm of a bygone age. There are many great places to eat in Dungloe and also the surrounding areas Casadh an Tsugan in Loughanure , Caisleann Or in Annagry, or there are some great fish restaurants in the fishing village of Burton Port. All are within easy reach of the cottage. I am sorry that you had an issue with paying for the oil and also the list of rules. The oil meter had to be installed for environmental reasons as we found that the oil was being left on all day with no one in the cottage which was just wasteful. When guests arrive for their stay late or otherwise they are met at the cottage by our friendly housekeeper Brid who always ensures that the cottage is ready for their arrival and is cosy for their stay. She also ensures that guests have change for that evening. When needed the local shop and garage across the way is open from 8am to 10 pm each night. In relation to the list of rules , as the cottage is a thatched cottage we are obliged for Insurance purposes to advise guests about health and safely in relation to fire hazzards and security of the cottage in general. Finally in relation to the stripping of beds , the cottage is normally fully booked out during the summer months and this is a request , rather than an obligation on the guest to assist in the easy turn round of the house during the busy periods. There is no obligation for any of our guests to do this. Again Thank you for your feed back it is only from hearing what our guests have to say about their experience in the cottage , that we can constantly strive to ensure our guests have a great experience in the cottage in particular and in all that Donegal has to offer. Yes, the food in the local pub which is just a 2 minute walk for the cottage, is fantastic quality and great value, the chicken wings are their speciality but really, everything is good, the pizzas and steaks and fresh fish are all fab!. The cottage boasts a great view over Glenveigh National park and the large fishing lake in Loughanure which is stocked with brown trout. It is also a great location to explore all of Donegal with the towns of Dungloe and Letterkenny a short drive away for some shopping or just exploring. The cottage is in ready reach of the beach for those long summer days. Please be advised that since your stay we have now got an enclosed garden at the back of the cottage in which dogs can be securely kept. We hope to see you all soon back in Donegal Regards The Owner
