Luxury modernist beach house retreat on Tasmania's beautiful East Coast. Deluxe, multi-award winning headland retreat overlooking Great Oyster Bay towards Maria Island, just a stones throw from Swansea.

Enjoy the delightful breakfast provisions and plan your day or don’t plan your day – just let it evolve. You can simply sit and read the interesting books from the Avalon collection, swim at the secluded beach at the bottom of the path, go fishing, walking, collect shells or head to Swansea or Freycinet to enjoy the splendor of the east coast.

Light the fire, pour a glass of selected Tasmanian wine and watch the moon rise over the Freycinet Peninsula. You can watch a DVD from Avalon’s library or just snuggle up on her lichen inspired orange couch. Sleep in the Stuart Houghton custom made Tasmanian oak beds, dream the evening away and awaken to the glorious pre-dawn light. Surrendering yourself to the Avalon rhythm is a unique experience.

Avalon Coastal Retreat is the mother retreat to Rocky Hills Retreat, also on the east coast, just up the hill. And Avalon City Retreat in Hobart CBD, a perfect stop over if flying out of Hobart.

A vehicle is necessary as Avalon Coastal Retreat is in an isolated location on Tasmania's east coast, about 15 minutes from the nearest town of Swansea and about an hour and 40 minutes by car from Hobart.

We look forward to welcoming you to Avalon Coastal Retreat and helping you get settled in. You will be contacted by the Coastal Retreat's host Ann the day prior to your stay to arrange a meeting time at the Retreat. Your host is not on site, so making a time to meet is important. Arrangements will be made for you to self-check in if you are planning on arriving outside of business hours.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

If Brett (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
