“Warning: Things to know before renting/ False advertising”

Reviewed 27 Jan 2015

Where to start… My family and I rented this home along with other properties that this owner has for New Year’s Eve and the following week. We were very clear on what we needed the home to have and Lorraine was more than happy discuss our concerns; most of them stemming from other reviews. In fact, we even felt bad for her after she explained that she did not understand why people would write such things about her beautiful property! The Directions: The house has no address, not on the website, not on the directions and not even on the actual home. We wondered how mail could even be received if someone were to send something. The directions were not much of any help. Best thing to do is get directions from the restaurant that is listed in the directions prior to visiting the home. If you are coming from Isabela make a left at the flashing light after the big flag of Puerto Rico. We ended up arriving to the home well past 10pm because we could not find it. On top of that the door is very tricky to work. It took us about a good 5 to 10 minutes to figure it out. Also, when you leave the home you have to make sure that the door to the home has the metal rod not touching the floor or else you will be locked out. We could not wait to finally get inside to rest after a near 5 hour flight and 2 hour drive. When we walked in we couldn’t help but notice the strong, strong smell of moth balls. Our family being from Puerto Rico we knew that having moth balls in a home was extremely common. So we let it go. Next, we noticed that every single window was open. Some people may like this, however it allowed for tons of insects to enter the home. We had lizards, geckos, cockroaches, ants, caterpillars and so on. We understand that cockroaches are very common in Puerto Rico but believe that since the windows were open it led to more of them coming in. One of the windows was closer to the roof of the house with a tree growing into the home so that one could not be closed. Lorraine asked if we were okay with her sending someone to the home while we were away to fumigate. We honestly weren’t but we knew we had to because of the amount of insects in the home. The next day someone did come to the home. When we arrive home we came home to plenty of dead bugs and the day after was worse. After dealing with the bug situation we realized that the house was humid and hot. We looked everywhere for the AC since Lorraine ensured us that the house was equipped with AC. We called Lorraine numerous times, explained to her about the windows, the bugs the AC… She then states that there is only AC in the family room and master bedroom. After 20 minutes of explaining there is not a family room we finally realize that there was a door that we thought led to the outside (closed shut with a wooden post) was in fact the living room. She insisted that the Master bedroom had AC which was somewhat insulting having to go back and forth. It did not have AC, it had two fans. This property is being listed as a 4 bedroom home. In reality it is a 3 bedroom home with a small sofa bed in the room that is technically a gym. Prior to renting I read the reviews about this and made sure to speak to Lorraine. She said that they removed the gym equipment and that it was indeed now an actual bedroom. We explained that we needed to know because we have eight in our group so we needed the bed space. The sofa bed had what looked like to be mice droppings but they told us that it was Lizard droppings. We had to clean and sanitize everything. Lorraine did send someone to wash the sheets for the sofa bed. Master bedroom/Bathroom: There is a walkway that leads to the master bath and master bedroom. In this walkway there is small closet with a faucet and drain in the floor. This would continuously fill with water leading to water being all over the hallway and bathroom. We called three times about this issue and someone was sent over. However, the issue continued. You can tell that there is black mold due to this happening over and over again and not completely fixing the problem. To disguise the smell of mold the “plumber” throws about 10 moth balls in the small closet (Dimensions probably being 2x2 feet). Also, we had to clean the sheets to this bed because we found small ants and had bug bites from sleeping on it. 2nd bedroom has 2 full beds. 3rd bedroom has queen bed. 4th “bedroom”: “gym” with small sofa bed. The dogs… We are pet lovers but Lorraine gave us the option of renting the home without the dogs there because we were worried about them barking. We opted to have the dogs elsewhere just to avoid any issues. Upon arriving the dogs were there. They are not far off on the land of the property as she explains. They are right there when you look over the ledge of the patio. Also, the fencing is broken so they were pretty much a few feet away during our entire stay. The dogs were very friendly and we had no issue with them staying even after we found that the fence was broken. Someone would come daily to feed them. The wifi… there is no wifi. Lorraine and the owner claim that there is wifi. There is a router but no wifi. Our family at the other properties had the same issue. They too called and complained and were told that maybe children disconnected it….uh, no Lorraine, there is simply no wifi. The laundry room… We made sure to ask if the home had a laundry room because we were staying for a bit over a week and had a large group. Lorraine said yes and that it can be used. Upon arrival the laundry room was double locked shut. We complained about that too and she said that the washer was broken. Then the owner called and said that she has no idea what Lorraine was talking about because the washer works fine. Turns out the washer caused the plumbing upstairs to flood that small closet. Someone had to come to unlock the door and allow for us to use the washer/dryer. Since we were renting numerous homes we wanted to make sure they were close to each other. Lorraine told us it was a 5 to 7 minute drive. NOPE! It was about 25 to 30 minutes to get to our family members. The beach… We were warned that the beach was not swimmable but that we could walk down to it. That is correct if you are okay climbing through bushes that have probably not been trimmed for years. The path leading from the home to the beach was completely covered in weeds, bark, dirt, etc. The rental inquiries are taken by Lorraine. She lives in New Jersey but yet the owner lives in Puerto Rico? There are two ladies that handle the property; One lady for the properties in Isabela and another for the one in Quebradillas. Lorraine told us to call both ladies so that they can come out to the house and help us with some of our concerns. Neither of the ladies ever showed. The actual house itself needs a renovation. There are some small things that can be over looked but water leaks, mold, a tree in the home and foundation issue should be dealt with ASAP. The home must be an old monastery. There are religious objects all throughout the home and the cement around the inside and outside of the home had cross cut outs. One day it stormed at night and was very windy. The kitchen windows do not close so it was slamming all night until the storm passed. This home has tons of potential but it is being managed poorly. Side note: There was a green car that would come nearly every morning and park near the “path” to the beach. One day he was changing, another he had his hood open as if he had car issues and the third time had someone with him. It seemed fishy to us but we were unable to find out who he was and why he was on the property. Tip: Keep all of your belongings in your luggage. We found 4 cockroaches at the upper level. If you are okay with AC in one room, insects, dogs, no wifi, no beach, no hot water in the sinks (which is common for sinks in Puerto Rico), moth balls, odd men lingering the property and mold then this is the property for you.

Response from the owner Its amazing the things people will try to say to dishonor the reputation of service providers who tries to give there best to accomodate guests into have a wonderful and peaceful vactaion inthe beautiful island of Puerto Rico. But this comment in comparison with the many great and excellent comments will not detour any guests that are honest and are seeking to have an relaxing and awesome vacation in this beatiful home in the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico.. This particular guest was very upset after we discovered that they were not a party of 6 guest but 13 loud and very disrespectable people whom left our home a complete mess and actual broke some furniture, dishes, stained our sheets and allowed stray cats into our home in conjunction to the many other issues that arouse from this reservation.. There security deposit was withheld and they decided to retaliate. But as committed servants of such a great service business we continue to entrust our home to the many families who conrinue to enjoy our properties.. Thank you to all.. lorraine

“A romantic and magical home”

Reviewed 7 Jan 2014

I went with my partner and since we got home we found special. arrived at night and we found all the gates with a dim lighting, very special, then to enter the house , and go all felt like an artist with a good taste (at least for my taste) had decorated the. Not to speak of the main room, where you feel as if you were sailing on.All that said Lorraine was totally true, because  highlights so she told us was to get home. Around the house there are 4 restaurants exelentes seafood, beach about 20 minutes of warm waters and there is a hotel like 3 minutes you can pay $ 12 o'clock poe day and use the pool (we spell it)    The family room is air-conditioned but the breeze is so abundant that never use it.The idea in this house to feel free without windows closed and breathing the sea air constatemente. We also went down to the beach which is in front of the house on a path where we could exercise, but not for swimming because we seemed dangerous. For us it was a special holiday we would like to repeat, hopefully not sold early to return. Thank Lorraine

It is always an absolute determination of ours that our guests are pleased with all we and our beautiful island has to offer. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay at our humble home, the magic is the presence of our Lord. And by the way we have mailed the item you left behind. Again, thank you and we will see you again. Lorraine
