“The most charming cottage ever!”

Reviewed 14 Jul 2015

I admire the way the owners have renovated this cottage and given it new life!!! This place has it all: comfort, charm, quirkiness, a retro feel, lots of thoughtful extras: books, magazines, antiques, luxurious bedlinen, sunny backyard, and for animal lovers: even comes with a stray cat! We felt like visiting a long lost auntie, who has lovingly prepared for our visit, rather than walking into a "holiday rental". This also appealed to my boys, aged 15 and 17. They went on a discovery tour around the house and appreciated the many wonderful touches of the life of "yesteryear" without missing out on any modern comforts, such as TV, DVDs, electric blankets and superb heating! This cottage is in a quiet lane amidst other quirky cottages, which makes you feel right at home. We stayed for 6 nights and went to all the museums and galleries in Broken Hill and spent a lovely day in Silverton and another day in Mutawintji National Park. Broken Hill is a very interesting town if you take the time to stay a while. If you are fussy, you'll find everything you could ever wish for. If you are not fussy (which we aren't), you'll be in seventh heaven.

Response from the owner Well, dear Guest, your lovely comment certainly takes the cake! WOW! A big 'Thank You' from two thrilled owners! We are SO very pleased you and your boys enjoyed your stay, as we were a bit worried the boys might find the history side of things boring, but it seems not so. What discerning young men they must be. We are happy too that you enjoyed Broken Hill which does have so much to offer these days - not only of former glories of a rugged mining town - but the wonders of the far Outback. Thank you dear lady for evaluating our cottage and surrounds - we really appreciate you taking the time to do this for us and for Broken Hill. We hope to see you again one day! Best wishes to you and your boys, Karyl & Henry

“Can't WAIT to Return!!!”

Reviewed 15 Jan 2015

Overlanders was one of the best experiences we've had travelling around the country. It was like coming home; so incredibly special. To walk into such an attractive and well-presented cottage after such a long journey was an absolute pleasure. Every possible convenience was available and we had the most wonderful time. The house, in a word, is AMAZING, and I would recommend Overlanders to anyone who appreciates value for money and a 'old world' experience. It was way beyond any experience a hotel/motel could provide and far more economical. It's only been a month but we've already booked our return stay to Overlanders and magnificent Broken Hill.

Response from the owner Thank you so much for your lovely review and thank you for your third booking! This is a first for 'Overlanders' and we are so chuffed. I know you have family here and we do appreciate you staying with us each time you are in BH, so maybe a free day is in order for your next visit! Many Thanks once again! Karyl & Henry

“You couldn't get better than this - anywhere!”

Reviewed 22 Apr 2014

We've traveled extensively over the years and 'Overlanders' takes first prize with us. It is charming, traditional and spotless and has so many little extras and with all the interesting bits and pieces you have the feeling of touching the past while living in the 'now'. If you're interested in the history of Broken Hill, this cottage is for you. We loved sitting in the arbour with a glass of wine at sunset and coming back after a day of exploring was so relaxing. The cottage is exquisitely decorated and totally comfortable. We would highly recommend 'Overlanders' to everyone. C'trona & Will Harrison March '14 PS: Excellent value for money too!

Response from the owner How kind of you C'trona and Will for taking the time to write this kind review - we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and found the cottage comfortable. Although our cottage is on a par with the more expensive ones (so we are told), we have chosen to lower the fees to make it more affordable to our guests. We hope to see you again one day! All the best, Henry & Karyl Z

“A Beautiful Surprise!”

Reviewed 28 Sep 2013

From the second we both stepped through the front door we knew we had made the right decision in choosing Overlanders Cottage. It was truly a visual delight and at first we were a bit like kids as we went running to the next room to discover each new surprise. After that we spent ages discovering all the historical memorabilia and kept finding things throughout our stay to Ooh and ahh at. To be honest we didn't know which bedroom to choose to sleep in as they're both so extraordinary and it was heaven soaking in the old-fashioned bathtub complete with candles (so romantic!) after a hard days' exploring. The cottage was spotless and so comfortable and everything we could possibly need or want was provided. It was an amazing experience and so was Broken Hill. The people are so friendly and the sights incredible and we really had a wonderful holiday. Thank you so much!

Response from the owner Thank you for your kind comment on 'Overlanders' which is very valuable to us when we are just starting out in the cottage business. It was good to know you enjoyed the rooms, as we had such fun planning them and then looking for the right pieces. Great that you enjoyed Broken Hill too. Hope to see you again. You would be very welcome! All the best. Karyl & Henry

“Simply Superb: Overlanders should be featured in a magazine!”

Reviewed 14 Sep 2013

This 5* holiday cottage is utterly incredible! Surely the owners are Interior Decorators? We have stayed in numerous holiday cottages all over australia but Overlanders blows them all right out of the water. We cannot believe the time - let alone the effort - the owners have put into the superb decorating; it really should be featured in a magazine. Plus they have thought of all the little practical things like condiments and washing powder and bath oils. We loved Broken Hill and were so sad to leave. Thank you so very much for everything! Sincere Regards, Olivia and Tom. Ps: I took loads of pics to pinch some of your ideas for our home. Hope you don't mind!

Response from the owner Thank you Olivia. When you read comments like yours it makes the years of restoring all worth it. You are welcome to stay anytime with a free day! Karyl & Henry Z
