Rocky Hills Retreat (RHR) provides a unique, lavish one or two person getaway built for exploration — of its vast bushland environment, its innovative architecture, art studio, art and book collection, or just the self. A unique modernist self-contained building, RHR has won awards for its architectural design. RHR reclines in the centre of 125 hectares close to

Swansea on the beautiful East Coast of Tasmania and has transformed what was once a swathe of remnant Tasmanian bushland into a lavish retreat that provides complete privacy, seclusion and a true sense of getting away from it all.

RHR comprises an elegantly simple open space featuring a luxurious king size bed, a well equipped kitchen, modern bathroom, laundry facilities and living area with wood fire and gas heating.

Located on the property is a fully equipped standalone artist studio, a lovingly appointed former church that was relocated and renovated for this purpose. The studio is nestled into the bush, five minutes’ walk from the main building and invites guests to explore the creativity within.

2 night minimum stays apply.

Rocky Hills Retreat is a sister retreat to Avalon Coastal Retreat also located in Rocky Hills on Tasmania's east coast, and Avalon City Retreat located in Hobart CBD.

Parking is right on the property right outside your retreat. The road to Rocky Hills Retreat is 2.5kms long and is a rough dirt road - so leave the Porsche at home!

Interaction with guest

Your host will welcome you to the property and help you get settled in, contacting you the day prior to coordinate check in. The host does not live on site but is available throughout your stay should you need to contact them for any reason.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your booking page. To change your dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Brett (the owner) a message.

If Brett (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
