“Bird paradise with stunning views and an incredible house”

Reviewed 3 Feb 2018

Wowza!! If you need to spend some time in San Jose, then this place is a must. If your view of a farm is a low land area that is very hot, you would be very wrong about this magnificent place!! It's nestled in the mountains above San Jose in Escazu. We never got tired of the the stunning views out the windows - day or night. The house is an architectural masterpiece that is filled with Windows and amazing tile work. Beds are super comfortable. The kitchen is a wonderful place to cook if you are into that, as the owners have all kinds of herbs and plants they might be willing to share. I made an amazing Indian feast one night with Kaffir lime leaves picked from the tree in the yard. If you prefer to go out, Escazu has many wonderful restaurants. We checked out Pescatore. Yummy!!!! The birding is exceptional as all the birds come right to you. We got amazing images because they come so close and you can use your room as a bird hide! Crowned blue motmots came by every day. Others: masked titrya, blue tanigers, scarlet taningers, keel billed tucans, cuckoo, and many, many more! The owners have a companion place at Manual Antonio that is also in the canopy and is AMAZING! Ocean beach house. As the owner recommends, be sure to get Waze to navigate to all places in Costa Rica. We adore the owners. They are bilingual and went out of their way to make sure our every need was attended to. We even got to enjoy a gig with one of the owners playing guitar. So - we would definitely recommend this location and have already booked again next year!!

Response from the owner Thank you John! We had a great time too!

“A Very Special Place”

A spacious, well appointed and beautifully situated apartment featuring unique design elements and quality details. Very clean and well maintained. The host and hostess are gracious and delightful company, as well.

Response from the owner Thank you!

“awesome views, lovely accommodations”

Reviewed 16 Apr 2014

This place is really quite wonderful. It's up in the mountains above Escazu and when you're there you really feel like you're away from everything, but it's a short drive back into the sprawling Central Valley. Talking with the owners I learned that the apartment was built for his mother and that he spared no expense. It helps that he happens to be a master woodworker; all the lovely finishings are no doubt a result of his special touch. I really haven't liked a place as much since I stayed at Casa Lago at the Peace Lodge in the La Paz Waterfall Gardens, and that place rents for $700+ per night!

“Beautiful and relaxing”

Reviewed 2 Mar 2014

The scenery around this house is absolutely gorgeous--a wonderful view of the mountains on one side, and of the Central Valley of Costa Rica on the other. The bedrooms are both nicely roomy, each with a separate bathroom. There is a lovely separate room with a couch and table, where you can have your meals, also with a great view. It was, in short, a fantastic place to stay!

“A nature delight!”

This place is so beautiful and relaxing you hardly want to leave, clean and owners are very accommodating. So glad we found it on line. Steve and Sharon Florida

Response from the owner Thank you! Glad you enjoyed yourselves.

I am an annual visitor to Costa Rica and have stayed a number of places. I can only say that if you are considering staying here you will not regret it. As lovely as the photos are they do not capture the amazing beauty that is seen from the balcony at night. I felt like royalty staying here. The rooms are beautiful and the woodwork is amazing. Sara and Barry are delightful owners and made me feel like family. Looking forward to spending time here again. Thank you for the opportunity to see Costa Rica in a different light.

“A first-rate experience in a beautiful setting!”

Reviewed 4 Jan 2014

We spent a total of seven nights in Escazu in Sarah and Barry's lovely place. The house, the garden, the farm, and especially the views of the city, are all spectacular. The only things better that are perhaps better are the hospitality and conversation; Sarah and Barry are first-rate hosts!

Response from the owner Thank you!

“Soul-stirring beauty in the most comfortable mountain retreat”

Reviewed 21 Nov 2013

I had total hip replacement surgery in San Jose's Clinica Biblica in January 2012. I spent 19 days at the The Orchard in the mountains of San antonio de Escazu, Costa Rica. The house was built to accommodate the former owner who had had a few hip surgeries, and it is the perfect place to convalesce. Obvious amenities include hand rails around toilets and showers, wheelchair accessibility, wide hallways, no stairs to climb. However, the jaw-dropping beauty of the home and setting, the depth of comfort in every room, and the hospitality of the owners are even more appealing. The house is tucked into the peaks of the San antonio Mountains, offering views rarely seen even in this country's spectacular landscape. Mornings begin with the chatter of a huge variety of birds who nest all over the property. Peace reigns. Only the sound of nature breaks the silence. The owners are dedicated farmers and tours of the extensive gardens are one of the delights of a stay here. They are justly proud of their neat rows of robust vegetables, the lush growth of fruit and flower trees, and acres of cultivated land. For privacy, comfort and soul-stirring beauty, I cannot think of a more nurturing environment.
