Description from owner

Description

Nestled in the northern Tuscan countryside between Florence and Bologna, this small home has been remodeled to meet modern needs, but with country style. It is situated in a "locality" named Mercurio, which is a typical group of stone houses, many dating back more than half a century. Mercurio is a great place to getaway from it all, and a perfect creative retreat. Garden for cultivating vegetables available to long term rentals, as well as access to the cottage garden of the main house. Main bedroom overlooks the old Roman road and the neighboring field with horses. Truly a "room with a view"... Upstairs bedroom same incredible view. Perfect for a study or workshop. Bathroom with shower and washing machine on ground floor. Wash basin overlooks the Roman road facing east, seeing the home is built over the antique thoroughfare. Main salon and kitchen has a couch, as well as a full table for four. Old stone fireplace has been restored for use for grilling as well, and a wood burning "economy" stove installed. Four burner gas stovetop and built in refrigerator are part of the chestnut cabinetry made to measure. All wiring and lighting redone with modern standards, but old fashioned look. Private WiFi service available. Wood shed and gas storage outside under short stone stair entrance.

This property is attached to the main house where the owners live, so quiet atmosphere is assured, and emergency help as well. Small town with grocer, butcher, baker, and bar is approximately one mile away and a nice walk through the woods, or on the road. Piancaldoli also has a church and emergency medical transport to nearest hospital approximately 30 minutes away. Town is also serviced by medical helicopter if needed. This home is a typical northern Tuscan abode surrounded by fields and chestnut groves. Seeing it is located on the historic border with Emilia Romagna, you will find the curious mix of the two regional cultures and gastronomical treasures abounding in a uniquely Italian way.

This property is best for use as a getaway retreat, or as a base to visit the central north part of the country seeing it is a little over an hour from the two major cities of Florence and Bologna. It is approximately two hours from the Adriatic or Tirrenean Sea Coasts, and three hours from Venice, Rome, and Milan. A truly Italian experience...

House rules

Children are welcome if accompanied by parents at all times. House is unsuitable for small children, as there is a steep staircase, and many small sets of stairs. There is unfortunately no wheelchair access due to this characteristic. Owners have cats, and neighbors have dogs and cats, so therefore it is preferred that guests refrain from bringing pets.
