Grist Mill River Cottage is located on the Rocky Broad River only 3 miles from Chimney Rock State Park and Lake Lure Marina and Beach. The cottage offers great fly fishing and a huge backyard with a stone fire pit just steps from the back door. Firewood is provided. Beautifully decorated with high quality furniture, it's cozy enough for 2, but easily sleeps a family or group of 7 people. The views and wonderful sounds of the rushing river can be enjoyed from the screened-in balcony off the master bedroom and from 2 screen porches.

Grist Mill River Cottage had its beginnings in the 1920's as one of Bat Cave, North Carolina's first grist mills on the Rocky Broad River. Completely rebuilt and restored in 2011 and then updated again in 2014 with all new furnishings and fixtures, Grist Mill River Cottage now has modern amenities never envisioned by its original owners. Today, its river location is more noted for being one of the best fly fishing spots in the Hickory Nut Gorge.

The flat entrance to this mountain cottage from the covered parking area makes it easy for guests to enter the cottage.

Guests can enjoy cozy, romantic evenings before the natural stone fireplace in the living area, prepare a meal in the fully equipped kitchen, and relax in the rocking chairs on the adjacent screen porch or on the huge deck with the sounds of the rushing river providing background music.

On the main floor is the master bedroom with a king bed and full bath with shower. The fully equipped kitchen with stainless steel appliances, beautifully furnished dining room, and living room with stone fireplace with gas logs is also on the main floor, as well as a second full guest bath with tub/shower and the laundry room with washer & dryer, iron and ironing board.

The downstairs suite is completely independent from the upstairs and can only be accessed from stairs on the back screened porch. In other words, there is no interior access to this suite from the main floor. This suite is great for couples traveling together as it has 2 bedrooms, each with a queen bed and a sitting room with a sleeper chair. A full bath with shower completes the downstairs suite. All the mattresses in this cottage are very top quality and extremely comfortable.

On rainy days, guests can enjoy 3 wide screen HDTV's with satellite service offering a football package and an endless array of movies and music channels. Use of complimentary wireless internet connection keeps you in touch with the office so no one will know that you have slipped away to the mountains to refresh your mind, body and spirit.

We had an awesome time in this space. It has all the amenities as well as all the ambiance you hope for in a mountain retreat! Spectacular back yard with firepit that we used during our stay. Convenient to Chimney Rock, Biltmore and Rafting. Highly recomend this space for your mountain adventure. We will be back

“The sound of the river is amazing”

This is one of the best rental homes I have ever stayed in. The reservation process was easy and friendly and check-in was pleasant and helpful. The house itself is absolutely wonderful and beautifully furnished, but the backyard...Wow...amazing. The screened porch, the firepit and that wonderful rushing river sound made for a great stay. Thanks for a memorable holiday.

“Great get-away immersed in natural beauty.”

This elegant cottage is beautifully situated on a white water river in a gorge between magnificent mountains. The upscale furnishings are comfortable and gracious (except for the living room sofa, which the rental agents assure us will be replaced before we return). The screened in porches overlooking the mountains and the river were a perfect place to enjoy a summer meal prepared on the gas grill. We love the location because it's convenient to several charming towns (Hendersonville, Asheville, Black Mt., etc) as well as offering plenty of hiking opportunities and water sports. The restaurants in the immediate area aren't great but we found several within a half hour drive that were excellent. The rental staff and the owner of the property are more than willing to accommodate our needs promptly and cheerfully throughout our stay. Next summer will be our 4th in the area and the Grist Mill Cottage has become our home away from home!
