PEACEFUL, QUIET, PRIVATE AND GORGEOUS PARADISE: The owners of Casa Cielo and Rancho el Rio have now opened this spacious home to guests. It is located on the very same 5-acre paradise as Casa Cielo, but a little lower down the mountain. See more reviews on TripAdvisor. It is Casa Cielo's sister and it is situated on the same 5-acre preserve but a little lower down the mountain slope. These cabins along with Rancho el Rio and our newest listing, La Granja (787565) fund all the animal welfare, environmental and social welfare programs we run at the Sustainability Demonstration Center. This home is surrounded by lush vegetation and fruit trees, and the birds and wildlife that live on them., Yet you are on a mountainside, so you get to see hummingbirds feeding right outside your window, AND the majestic views of the mountains and the Nicoya Gulf right from your kitchen window.
It truly is a Bird-watcher´s paradise. Enjoy the gorgeous view of the Gulf of Nicoya and the mountains from this beautiful cabin in secluded 2-hectare preserve with lots of fruit trees (tangerines, oranges, water apples, grapefruits, bananas, avocado, rose apples, lemons), over 30 medicinal plants, free-range chickens, friendly dogs, and a fish pond- only 15 minutes to Monteverde.
Situated right off the main road to San Jose, but nestled in the mountains, it is a 7 minute drive to grocery stores, banks, restaurants, etc.
Enjoy the Cloud Forest attractions during the day, but at night, retreat to the low-land drier and warmer climate and its diverse wildlife.
Wake up to the sound of parrots flying overhead and blue magpies knocking at your window, then warm up with a cup of herbal tea straight from our garden or organic coffee from the San Luis Valley. We provide you with free organic coffee for the first morning of your stay as we are coffee producers in Monteverde and want to make sure you have an awesome start to your first morning with us! If you want to purchase more organic coffee for your stay or to take home, you can order it through our food order form. You can also order local organic food for your stay from our neighbors - great way to enjoy delicious, healthy food and support the local community.
Later on, take a walk on the trails and see beauty and biodiversity all around... you could even feed the chickens and fish.
In the evening, watch the amazing sunset from the balcony and curl up in a tub for two.
Less than 2 hours to the beach, 3.5 hours to Volcan Arenal, 30 mins to Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve and zip-lines, 20 mins to Children´s Eternal Rain Forest, 7 minutes to ranarium, herpetarium, horse-back rides, orchid and butterfly gardens.
The cabin is fully equipped. It has a double bathtub and a full bed (sleeps 2) in the master bedroom, another full bed and a twin (in the style of bunk beds, sleeps 3) in a second bedroom and a full futon in the living room (sleeps 2). It has a fully-equipped kitchen (stove & oven, fridge, toaster oven, blender, kitchen utensils, dish towels, etc.) and access to a washing machine.
There is wi-fi/internet free of charge. You also have your own phone line with free calls within Costa Rica.

Response from the owner It is true that the house is not for everyone as it is spacious, but rustic and there are insects in the surrounding forest that make their way from time to time, even through the screens. Normally you do not need to wash the dishes before using; however, windy season brings gusts of wind and dust that may settle on everything. Our housekeeper tries her very best to keep things tidy and clean. Regarding the dogs. We do not share the farm with the neighbors, but Giselle's dogs do not know this and end up escorting you to the house and hanging out, specially if you play with them or feed them. They are friendly and well-cared for. But if you do not enjoy dogs, this may not be the best place for you. The neighbor's cows are a different story. They get in when the gate is left open, otherwise, they stay on their side of the fence. During windy season, it is almost impossible to keep all small branches from the trails as they fall continuously. Otherwise, we try hard to keep the trails clear. We feel having a secluded home in the midst of paradise outweighs some of the small inconveniences that may pop up. But the reviewer is correct... it is not for everyone... you've got to love nature and all that comes with it.
