“The Ritz-Carlton of vacation rentals”

Reviewed 8 Jul 2015

Superb. Everyone in my family was impressed as soon as we entered the property, a place we would have been proud to call our own home. The photos in the Rowley Estates website capture the ambiance to some degree, but the reality is even better. Attention to details distinguishes it from other rental properties. Just to note a few examples: - spotlessly clean - furnished and decorated tastefully, and as you would a real home - generous welcome basket (bottle of wine, bread, cheese, juice, milk, cereal, variety of fruits, etc) - bbq grill, _and_ a bag of charcoals and new-looking bbq toolset - umbrellas - laundry detergent - variety of glasses for different types of wine: red, white, champagne - Hand blender - some toys for the kids We are very much looking forward to more opportunities to stay at Elk cottage and other properties managed by the Rowley Estates.

“Weekend at Elk Cottage”

Reviewed 28 May 2015

Having stayed once before at Stag cottage, we had an idea of what to expect from Elk Cottage and the service from Christine and Jilly. We were not disappointed We arrived at the small village of Glassonby but were unable to locate the cottage, a quick phone call and Jilly was soon on the scene guiding us to the cottage As in Stag cottage the conversion is stunning, tastefully done with high quality fittings and attention to detail That attention to detail transfers through into the service you receive, with the fridge well stocked as well as a hamper with lots of quality goodies. In the living room you will find a log burner which is all prepared, which is great after a hard days walking in the beautiful countryside. We opted for the walk to Lacy's Caves and long Meg, which is a nice walk, mostly flat so not too taxing, though I'm not sure about 5.5 mile, though its possible that we went a longer route We find it hard to see past the cottages at Rowley Estate and cant wait to try our next booking at Riverain. I will post a review after that visit in July

Response from the manager Hi, Thank you for taking your time to write this review. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Elk Cottage and were not disappointed. The surrounding area really is beautiful and the walk through Lacy's Caves along the river to Long Meg is beautiful. We all really look forward to welcoming you back to stay at Riverain. Kind regards Charles, Christine and Jilly.

“Welcome Break!!”

Reviewed 1 Dec 2014

We stayed at Elk cottage with friends as a handy meeting point between our two homes. The cottage was fantastic. It has everything you need and was beautifully done. Welcome hamper was a real bonus and although the weather was lovely, we staying in a lot of the Saturday to make the most of the cottage and a fantastic fire!! Jilly was a massive help and booked us in for dinner at one of the local pubs. Meal was lovely. Thanks for your help Jilly. Would definately come back and already planning another stay.

Hopefully we can welcome you all back again next year ! With all our best wishes, Christine, Charlie & Jilly

“Excellent & Comfortable”

Reviewed 11 Oct 2014

We stayed at Elk Cottage in October and had a great visit. The hike by the river was outstanding and the kids enjoyed exploring Lacey's Caves overlooking the river. Definitely keep holding hands with little ones in the caves. The Fetherston Arms is a welcoming pub and we were able to take our dog in for dinner with us which was a treat. We'll be back soon. Thanks Jilly and your team!!

Response from the manager Hi, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a great review of your stay at Elk Cottage - we will pass your comments on to Jilly's Team. We hope to be able to welcome you back again soon. Best regards, Christine, Charlie and Jilly

“Elk Cottage has everything you could wish for to make your stay perfect.”

Reviewed 18 Jul 2014

Christine & Lilly's help and service to make our stay perfect was the best we have experienced anywhere before. They were quick to reply to any questions and requests we had. The cottage had everything you would want in facilities and comfort and was decorated to a very high standard. The location is just a couple of minutes drive from Melmerby village which has a pub, village shop and welcoming Village Bakery & cafe with local crafts and goodies to take away. ( not to be missed ) Wether you want a peaceful time in the garden and take in the views or beautiful long walks Elk cottage is a prime location, and not far at all from the Lakes. The best part of all is that we shared our trip with our Cocker Spaniel who loved every minute, as did we. We cannot wait for another visit !

Response from the manager Hi, Thank you for taking the time to leave such a positive review for Elk Cottage. We are delighted that we were able to assist with questions/requests to help make your stay as perfect as possible. Its great to hear that you all had such a lovely holiday at Elk Cottage and we hope to be able to welcome you back again soon. Best regards, Christine, Charlie and Jilly

“Relaxing Weekend”

Reviewed 20 Apr 2014

We can't fault the service of Rowley Estates. Even before we actually booked, Christine Rowley offered help and advice on the local area and the cottages that were available.

Beautiful location, dog friendly so lots of walks Lacey Caves, Long Meg and her Daughters Druids Circle. The house was immaculate on arrival and a welcome hamper was provided which was a treat. House lovely and warm, beds very comfortable. Village shop at Kirkoswald and one at Langwathby had all the groceries I needed. I went to relax walk and read and it was the perfect place peaceful and quiet. The Shepherds Inn at Langwathby and The Featherstone arms at Kirkoswald were very nice for food and a very warm welcome. What I liked best was the peace and quiet, the thing I liked least was having to leave. The cleaning ladies and the house keeper were wonderful.

“Lovely cottage garden”

Reviewed 3 Oct 2013

Great walks down by the river with views over the Eden Valley. Loved the food at the Fetherston arms pub in Kirkoswald. Jilly and her team were really friendly and kept the house spotless. The cottage garden was lovely.
