“Excellent Accommodation and superb family holiday”
The accommodation is truly first class and everything a family of 5 could wish for (and more) was provided. Eight adults could easily be accommodated in this property. The Hall was of a very high standard and everything had been carefully considered right down to the welcome basket. My children's favourite trips out were to Honister Slate Mine http://www.honister.com where we did the mini tour and Urban adventure, next to Carlisle castle http://www.urban-adventure.co.uk/home.asp We all had a super holiday exploring the beautiful sites of Cumbria during the day and then returning to luxury accommodation at night with the lovely countryside views. We would all thoroughly recommend the property and the owners are a sheer delight to deal with.
Response from the manager Hi, Thank you for taking your time to write this review and we are very pleased that you and your family enjoyed your holiday at Glassonby Old Hall and the surrounding areas. Your comments are very much appreciated and I will share them with our team. We would love to be able to welcome you back again as our guests in the future either at Glassonby Old Hall or any of our other cottages. Kind regards, Christine, Charlie and Jilly.
“A great house”
It's hard not to love this house. Brilliant attention to detail: from the fires begin laid when we arrived, the hamper of essentials left for us, the suggestion of walks (a visit to the caves and stone circle being a highlight), the pub recommended for sunday lunch (Fetherston Arms with great food and real ales - wish we hadn't taken the kids we could have stayed there all afternoon), the toasty duvets…..I could go on but I think I'd bore you. A very lovely management team who were very helpful in the run up to our stay and very low key during our stay…there was a welcome lack of 'do this' or 'don't do this' signs in the house which made it feel more like home. I don't usually write reviews so that should be a testament to the great stay we had. Hope to find an excuse to go back soon.
Response from the manager Hi, Thank you for leaving a review of your recent stay at Glassonby Old Hall and we appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts on our property etc. We also love the "Feathers" (as it is known locally!) especially their lovely home-cooked meals. We will pass your kind comments onto our team and hope that we can welcome you all back again soon. Kind regards, Christine, Charlie & Jilly
“Brillant property, brillant staff, made the whole weekend come together from pre-arrival to departure”
This property was selected and booked to accommodate a surprise 60th birthday celebration for my wife. It was chosen based on location for ease of travel for all guests and the excellent facilities it provided. The ability to have our own chef prepare a meal in house, to our specifications was an absolute bonus and treat for all. The preparation and presentation was completed with no fuss and a desire to make the evening special without intrusion. I needed to deliver surprise items to the property before our due arrival time. This allowed the surprise to remain intact, a massive thank you to Jilly and her team. We have travelled extensively and the standard of the property at Glassonby Hall, exceeded our expectations, it was fitted out to an extremely high standard. The hamper helped fill some hungry guests on the night of our arrival, an excellent consideration removing the need to purchase foodstuff by guests and allow us all to get straight into holiday mode. All in all a great break for all guests and we have no hesitation in recommending this property.

“Glassonby - An Absolute Gem!”
We booked Glassonby Hall & the 2 cottages for a family celebration & what a wonderful stay we had. The Hall was perfect for our celebration & the restoration work was extremely impressive - we loved all the original features & the mod-cons too! The accomodation was clean, comfortable & had everything we could possibly need. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend & will definitely be back for another stay. Fabulous - thanks to the Rowleys!

“Looking forward to our next stay --- more peace and quiet”
Another great stay at the Rowley's estates. Last time was Cazenovia Hall and we loved this and Glassonby was equally well fitted out. I really appreciate that it was well prepared for our young children with cot, high chair, plastic plates, cutlery and even kids books and games. The bedrooms and bathrooms are great and the restored covered well in the ground floor shower room is amazing. Thanks to Jilly and her team for helping us with lots of requests for our family. The catering was great!
“Fabulous family retreat!”
Glassonby Old Hall was the perfect spot for a long weekend for the family. Close to Penrith station, so really easy to get to even for those of us without a car. A great location, perfect for local walks or a short drive from the lakes. The warm welcome began from the off with great information and advice being shared by email and continued with a beautiful hamper on arrival. The Hall itself was clean, well stocked with all the comforts of home and really warm! We would definitely go again.
“Old Meets New beautifully!”
I loved this place! Being from the U.S., "old" to me is maybe 100 years old or something like that, and many houses that old will definitely look their age. We found this place on the internet and thought it would be cool to stay somewhere that was really old, and we were right. The funny thing is, although it is old the property is really modern with the conveniences so it is very comfortable. We had some very nice weather while staying at Glasonby Hall and took full advantage of great walks right out the front door. The grounds or garden area was very pretty with great views over fields and the valley. Indoors, we found it had a four oven aga and a very large oak kitchen table. We enjoyed having fires in the evenings (all the wood and kindling was right there and ready for us - nice!) There is a little village nearby, Melmerby, that has some nice shops including the Bakery (my favorite). The bedrooms were very comfortable and our master bedroom had a beautiful four-poster bed. We hope we can come back again someday!
“A sense of history”
A real sense of history with old oak beams, hand made shutters, two massive log burning fire places and a huge oak kitchen table. Fantastic walking right out the front door with changing views over the fields and valley. Visited the nearby Village of Melmerby and loved the Village Bakery organic and all sorts of locally sourced food products.
