“The ultimate home away from home”

Reviewed 8 May 2014

The Cottage at Winjes farm is a true delight. The location in the middle of nowhere makes it such a surprise to have such accommodations in such an isolated part of the eastern Sierras. It is so comfortable and spacious. I love to cook and I was amazed at all of the provided equipment that many people don't even have at home. The Cottage was provisioned with Fresh homemade bread!,fruit, fresh vegetables, bacon, farm fresh eggs, OJ, Jam, butter, coffee, teas, plus a full spice cabinet and too much to mention. I have stayed here several times and I look forward to my next visit. Jan and Russ are a true delight and just wonderful hosts, I consider them my friends now.

“Peace and quiet in a cozy setting”

This has become a "go to" place for us. We have stayed twice now, in winter and in fall. The hosts are kind, caring people who will look after your every need. The cabin is well-stocked. I can't think of a better romantic getaway! Come visit this beautiful and not-well-known corner of the world. You won't regret it!

“Once a Year Is Not Enough”

Reviewed 16 Sep 2013

We give this cottage 5 stars because it's our favorite place to stay. Where else can you stay in a refurbished 1860 farmhouse and enjoy vast panorama's of the american outback...and giggle with the Winje's on the deck. It comes with great coffee, Jan's homemade jam, fresh veggies from their garden, and a cooks kitchen, fully equipped. This place feels like home...on the range. For outdoor types this is the ticket. Wildlife is in abundance and no matter what season you visit, its spectacular. This is coming from experience... about ten years worth of visits.

“A peaceful, beautiful, friendly retreat with all the comforts of”

We have stayed at The Cottage several times and during different seasons. Without fail it has been a wonderful experience! Jan and Russ are so friendly and kind that one feels immediately at home. The historic cottage has been completely remodeled under Russ' careful and artistic hand and Jan has furnished it in style. The result is an exceptionally peaceful retreat with everything you need. The cottage is immaculate. The surrounding area is stunningly beautiful -- and refreshingly and absolutely devoid of crowds and any trace of the hustle-bustle of more populated areas. Surprise Valley is an undiscovered gem and the Winje's Cottage is the place from which to explore it!

“a little piece of paradise”

My spouse and I have stayed on two occasions at the Winjes farm for a week each time. This is a lovely and interesting part of the world and no better place from which to enjoy it than than at this cottage. The setting is lovely, with a deck surrounded by overhanging trees with a well appointed cottage providing everything necessary for a very comfortable stay. The hosts are delightful, considerate and helpful. Very quiet, peaceful, and an ideal location for exploring the Warner mountains. Highly recommended for everyone but especially bird watchers. “Peaceful retreat”

A wonderful homey Cottage that has everything one would need to explore the Surprise Valley area. The owners are super friendly and helpful and extremely knowledgeable about the area. The property is very private but it's not far from the quaint town of Cedarville. The views from the property across the land are awesome!

“Not in arkansas”

Reviewed 29 Aug 2013

Will shatter your expectations of California. High desert, farming & ranching country of great beauty. Old farm building restored into cute comfortable cottage. Excellent amenities. Fresh produce, attractive grounds. Large wildlife refuge across the road. Fifteen minute drive to Cedarville for gas and supplies. Plus, Jan Winje is an outstanding hostess. Do yourself a favor and visit.
