“A relaxing weekend getaway”
I booked October House for quiet and relaxing getaway on my own. What a lovely place! The room was very clean, cosy and quiet, with an extremely comfortable bed and a great shower. I really appreciated the fact that the suite was away from the main house and that I could come and go as I pleased. Breakfast was delicious. Alison and her husband made me feel very welcome as did their dogs, chickens and horses! I hope to return very soon for more of the same.
We booked October House for a weekend getaway (it was my partner's birthday). It was easy to find and is ideally located, just a 5 - 10 minute drive from Fordingbridge and a couple more minutes on to the New Forest itself. The room itself is spacious, cosy and immaculate, as is the en suite bathroom (excellent shower too!). There are plenty of delicious biscuits and hot drinks provided in the room as well. Comfy bed, sofa etc, everything as it should be - and super quiet too. Alison and her husband, Richard, cook up a great breakfast in the kitchen of their house each morning. The eggs are freshly laid from the hens they keep and are the most delicious I have ever had. There are plenty of suggested walks and tips on places to eat locally provided in the room. The Rose and Thistle (5 mins drive away) is an excellent pub - the food was superb. Book though, as it's very popular. Unfortnately for me (and my partner), I did my back in on the second day and Richard very kindly drove me to the local hospital in Salisbury. Alison even brought breakfast over to our room from the main house because, for a while, I could barely move! They were super helpful and excellent hosts. We've booked again for Easter we were so impressed - next time, my back hopefully won't fail me! Would heartily recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway, with plenty of of amazing walks virtually on your doorstep.
Response from the owner Thank you for the great review Jonathan. I am just sorry you could not enjoy your weekend to the full - especially as the sun made a rare appearance on Saturday. I'm so glad you are coming back with your children. We very much look forward to meeting them. Fingers crossed we will have all dried out by then! A x
“Perfect Stay despite the rain!”
My partner and I and our two Labradors stayed at October House B&B; at the begining of January. Alison greeted us all on arrival and I have to say she couldnt have been more helpful, we had a very warm welcome and she gave us lots of advice on the local area and what to do. The Guest room was really lovely, very private, set away from the main house with everything we needed inside, and the grounds were beautiful. All in all we had an amazing little break and so did our dogs! Even the wet weather didnt dampen our stay. Breakfast in the main house was top quality - too much to choose from! We will definately be back, best B&B; we have ever stayed in!
Response from the owner Thank you so much L. We loved having you to stay - it brightened those wet mornings! Looking forward to having you to stay again when the garden looks its best. A xx
“New Forest Haven”
My wife and I have just had a two night break with our cocker spaniel at this charming guest house. We were very impressed with the high standard of the accommodation and the warm welcome we received from the hosts alison and Richard. It is ideally situated in the New Forest for walkers and has some lovely dog friendly pubs nearby to eat. We will definitely book again for next year. We feel very envious of alison and Richard for their lovely home in a beautiful and peaceful location.
“Very comfortable in good location”
Well suited to our purpose of relaxing and playing golf. Very comfortable accommodation with relaxed and friendly owners. Good eating place in and around location, especially in the New Forest. Enjoyed the privacy of the guest room and breakfast in the owners home, although this could have offered more choice.
Lovely place to stay took my two dogs and was able to take my dogs to breakfast with me so they wouldn't be on there on. Very nice couple looked after us and being local to the area they advised us of places to go and see. House is well located to Bournemouth if you want the seaside and New forest for your walks.
Overall a pleasant stay.It was ideal for us as it was our first break away with our puppy. As well as lots of local walks alison allowed us use of the paddock within the grounds so our puppy was well exercised! A hearty breakfast set us up for the day!
“high standard accomodation for guests with dogs”
We stayed 2 nights in Octoberhouse and found it to be the perfect place to to be with our dog Cato. As the accomodation is seperate from the main house and also has its own garden it was very practical for our elderly dog. The room is very specious and the breakfast delicous. Alison is very welcoming and will make you feel very much at ease. We would recommend this B&B; in the beautiful surroundings of the New Forrest very much.
Response from the owner Thank you for the lovely review Ellen! We very much enjoyed having you all to stay - I hope Cato was not too exhausted after his exertions on the New Forest. Please do come and stay again soon. Best wishes, Alison
We enjoyed a homely and relaxed stay at October house. We have a 2 year old little girl and although October house to not specifically cater for children they were more than happy to accommodate. The room was clean, specious and comfortable. It had a private garden out side to sit and enjoy a coffee and the sunshine. The full English breakfast was very nice with fresh eggs from the chickens in the garden, my little girl enjoyed running round the gardens and seeing the chickens and playing with the owners 2 friendly dogs.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at October House. Alison was very welcoming, and even made us a sandwich so we could head straight off on a bike ride!! The room was comfortable, and we slept like logs all night. Both mornings we had a delicious breakfast, which was also great fun as alison is a character. Our dog Poppy made friends with the resident dogs Coco and Golly, and enjoyed herself immensely. We will definitely be back.
