“Beautiful Stress Free Days In The Smith Homestead”

Reviewed 2 May 2013

The Smith Homestead is a fantastic get-away for those looking to get peace and quiet in the picturesque Berkshire community of alford. The drive up to alford was both easy and relaxing and finding the Smith Homestead was simple. Upon arrival we were met by Susan, and her husband Tom. They led us to our room. The room artfully blends the traditions of the Berkshire farm house with modern touches that left us feeling pampered and amazed. My wife's favorite feature was the heated floors, while mine was the modern shower and hot tub. Throughout our stay the room was kept well stocked with essentials and both Susan and Tom were very helpful. The breakfast service was delicious. The home made muffins and omelets were accompanied by a breathtaking view of farmland and fantastic homes both old and new. My wife and I looked forward to the peaceful starts of each day during our stay. The Smith Homestead is only minutes away from downtown Great Barrington, but early in the morning the solitude and serenity of the Berkshires was all around us. In town we visited antique stores, specialty shops and wonderful restaurants that were recommended by Susan and Tom. By the end of our stay at Smith Homestead we were feeling relaxed and reenergized for the work week ahead. It was tough to leave, but my wife and I will be coming back soon to enjoy the Smith Homestead.

Response from the owner Thank you for the great review, John! We enjoyed having you and Leah here!! Susan

“Visit Great Barrington, but stay in a true New England town. Cho”

Reviewed 10 Apr 2013

Set back in the Berkshires, Alford Ma is a stone's throw from New York State. The small town borders Great Barrington, which is rich in activity. Many famous americans have roamed Barrington's streets, from W.E.B. DuBois to Woody Guthrie. The artistic spirit of Guthrie and social activism of DuBois can still be felt when your getting lunch at the Gypsy Joint or sipping a latte at Castle Street Cafe. The citizens of Great Barrington are friendly and thoughtful, never moving fast enough to share a story or lend a hand. This is one of my favorite towns in The Berkshires because it isn't Stockbridge. If you want the Norman Rockwell museum that's just fine, but if you want to see art in motion, music in the live and eat a sandwhich you didn't know existed..make this town a necessary pit-stop. And while you're visiting Great Barrington, stay at the smith homestead! This room offers a serene, private setting in a quintessential, New England home. The bed is big and comfortable and the bathroom is state of the art. The shower has a window that allows for an incredible view of the farm. There's nothing like a good "Scrub with a View". Step outside and enjoy a panoramic view of the mountains, or sit on the back porch and play your guitar. Chances are you'll make a friend in a lovely dog named Perry. Have him fetch a ball, or a stick. His vocabulary is quite expansive (I've seen him fetch an old set of deer antlers on command!) The owners are quite nice and knowledgable of the area. The breakfast is delicious and bottomless. At my last stay I ate at least 7 blueberry muffins. I couldn't resist. And when I'm back in The Berkshires I won't be able to resist staying at The Smith Homestead once again! 5 stars!!!

Response from the owner Thank you so much, Jay! We love to have you visit!

“Beautiful”

Reviewed 9 Apr 2013

Five stars! Perfect location for a getaway. A quick ride into the beautiful downtown Great Barrington. I have had many good night rests in this room. The hillside view is spectacular. And the best cup of coffee around.

Response from the owner Thanks, Katie! You were a wonderful guest, as always!
