“Relaxation Defined”

Reviewed 27 May 2017

This was our first trip to Tybee Island but not our first time using TripAdvisor/Flipkey for a vacation rental, we booked the bungalow for two weeks. The description on TA I believe is a fair representation of the property. I read a review that the place is cluttered and in need of an interior designers help. Although there is a lot packed into the bungalow it does not need an interior designer, it's style is knows as eclectic. Jude is a really friendly person, the kind of person that once you meet him you feel like you have known him for years. He lives just around the corner if needed. We found the bungalow very comfortable with a few quirks. Some of the under-cabinet lights do not work consistently, the kitchen overhead light seems to like to come on in stages and the shower water valve is what I would consider backwards. By backwards I mean when you turn it on you get hot water first and the more you open it up you get cold water. Although we like a firm mattress we both slept really well on the queen size bed which was not firm but very comfortable. The fish pond in the front yard we found to be very therapeutic, especially feeding the fish each day. The backyard I found good for sunbathing without interruption, once you see the sign on the back door you will understand. I am rather tall and the canopy over the backyard is rather low, so I had to duck. Jude was actually worried about me getting hit in the head by the ceiling fan in the living room when it was on since I am tall. We used the kitchen to cook some of our meals and had all the utensils we needed. The neighbors were quite noisy, they are frogs associated with the pond, it was their mating season but it was only really bad for a few nights. The bungalow is situated between two public access points to the beaches. One at the end of Polk Street with very limited parking and is the section of Savannah River Beach that fronts the Savannah River Channel and not very busy but with no bathrooms or services. The second is off of Meddin Drive across from the Tybee Lighthouse and behind the Tybee Museum. It has a large parking lot, bathrooms, showers, changing rooms, vending machines and the North Beach bar and most of this section in along the waters of the Atlantic and is much busier. However it is not as busy as the beach by the hotels and downtown section. The other fantastic location benefit that I have not seen mentioned in any other review is that you can get to Huc-A-Poos without going out onto US 80, you can actually walk to it which has several benefits if you happen to partake in any adult beverages. Wink, wink. If you are looking for a place to unwind and de-stress this is definitely the place for a couple to decompress and enjoy each other’s company. If you are looking for glamour and a four star experience this is probably not a rental for you. If you do not eat out all the time the IGA in town is great for getting customized cuts of meat. For us coming from the North we really like the Publix chain so we went north across the bridge to Wilmington Island. We bought a dozen eggs on one visit and the wife checked a few, but while checking out the person bagging checked all the eggs and found a few cracked and went and got us another dozen without any damage. Where else do they do that? Okay now for a few tips: 1. Do not speed coming onto Tybee Island since when the local police set up they love catching speeders. 2. The signs indicating that Tybee Island is a total pay for parking is no joke and they have people out writing tickets for it. This is for the downtown area and the beaches. 3. We use a great deal of ice; the refrigerator does not have an ice maker. A great deal is down the road a little sort of opposite the Post Office, there is a bank ATM and a free-standing machine that makes ice. For $2 you get something like 16 lbs. of ice! 4. We loved Bubba Gumps which is just up the road a little bit, great place for fresh sea food. We ate there for 3 nights in a row. So did we enjoy our trip, most definitely! We even booked for next year before we left this year.

“Comfortable, Fun, and Unique”

Fenced-in yard in the front and back, comfortable living space, and close to the beach. Perfect for pets. Dining area in back. I loved it!

“Jude was friendly but needs a decorator!”

Reviewed 18 Dec 2014

Jude was very nice and accommodating but.....way to much clutter for a small place. In my opinion there was to many personal items and no color. When we were there the fish pond was smelly and we had to rake the leaves for our small dogs to do their business and out back they used the concrete. Charcoal grill had a rusted out bottom which we couldn't use. It was nice having the fenced yard but with everything that was there there's not much room. Sorry the review changed a little but after looking at other places, not a very good value for the condition and location.

Response from the owner In response to Anita decorator my Tybee Island bungalow has gone through many changes over the years, and I'm sure will go through many more. iIts certainly a well loved pet friendly environment that always needs worksince inspired by the guess the say. Since the guests have been there there has been numerous changes. drapes on the windows nicer carpets, new grill, the pond to Stil a pond ha ha.,. New day couch in the bedroom. New heater in the bedroom to keep the bedroom warmer in cold spells. And the waterfall in the back is new. As far as raking leaves at the time of year they came is when the leaves fall and there is plenty of room in the back the dog could've gone off the concrete. The fact there's a whole field across the street folks walk their dog but the area in the back 4 foot wide by 20 feet that should be adequate? As far as location goes it's one of the hottest locations on the beach. It's in a quiet location but close to the beach and shopping and best restaurants within walking distance.:-) I'm sure there will be countless new changes every year and every month. But the one thing I can say that I've never tried to deceive anybody on what they're getting . I'm sure the pictures were there when those folks rented the house and it looked exactly like the pictures as far as the pond smelling well that's a new one on me, but ponds oare ponds and there was clearly a picture of a pond? So it is been 10 months since the guest has stayed there and they have no idea what it looks like now and they're just now writing a review for 10 months ago . I guess I can't wait till next year's review.

“Fantastic Property”

My husband and I absolutely loved staying in Jude's rental for the weekend. The location is perfect. You can walk to the light house and you are only minutes away from all the shops and restaurants. The fish pond in the front of the home is fantastic. Our dogs came along with us as well and really enjoyed staying in the back. We will try to rebook here every year when we come to Tybee!

This is a cute little cottage, with a big attitude. Comfortable for me and my Hubby and my 2 dogs. Off in a little wooded area , had all the things I needed for a 5 night stay. Close to the beach and all the shopping areas.
