Description from owner

Casa Pierotti is a 200+ year old house located on the walled perimeter of the centro storico (historic center) of Barga, Tuscany. The house rear wall was part of the town's defensive wall and an old gate and tower can still be seen in the exposed wall. The thick walls of the house and the 10 foot ceilings keep the apartments cool in the summer. The house is located on Via Marconi allowing for easy access for loading and unloading luggage and is a short walk to the town car park.

The apartment has a modern eat-in kitchen, a living room with TV, DVD/CD and single sofa bed and a bathroom with shower. The master bedroom is furnished with an antique iron queen size (153 cm x 200 cm - 60 in x 79 in) bed and antique furniture. An additional bedroom with twin beds is available for a small fee. Amenities: TV, DVD/CD Player, Full kitchen, dishwasher, refrigerator/freezer, microwave, washer/dryer, cooking utesils and linen/towels are provided.

The most striking feature of the house is the terrace which runs the full length of the house providing for spectacular views of the Apuan Alps and breath-taking sunsets. The terrace is divided with plantings to provide privacy between the apartment and the adjacent one. The house is only a few minutes walk from shops, churches, antique dealers, banks, the Saturday morning market, and restaurants serving delicious and inexpensive local cuisine.

Barga is located in the mountainous northwest corner of Tuscany and has been recognized as one of the most beautiful Tuscan country towns. It was a stronghold of Florence under the Medici and this influence can be seen in architecture and art of the town. The town is dominated by the thousand year old cathedral. It is on the edge of the Garfagnana region known for its chestnut forests, wild boar, pecorino cheese and porcini mushrooms. In the summer, Barga is rich in cultural life with summer jazz and opera festivals, art exhibits, and outdoor markets. In addition, a visitor can watch religious processions and even go to a fish and chip festival, since Barga is the most Scottish town in Italy. Outdoor activities include hiking in the Apennine Mountains or the more rugged Apuan Alps, swimming in the town pool or in the Serchio River, tennis, horseback riding. During the summer there is a daily bus going the sea resort of Viareggio. In late August and September the area is filled with mushroom hunters searching for the delicious porcini mushrooms. The town is a 45 minute drive from the beautiful walled city of Lucca, 1.25 hours from Pisa and 1.5 hours from Florence.

The apartment available from June 27 to September 13.
