“Home away from home”
Where do I begin? This place is amazing! I almost feel hesitant writing this review for selfish reasons--I want this place to be our little secret. We came here to relax, spend quality time with family and enjoy nature. We did all that and more! Mike was very accommodating and made sure that we enjoyed every second of our vacation. His staff, Helen and Teresa were so helpful. They came with us to the market, cooked us yummy food and were just so nice and friendly that made our stay extra special. I sure can't wait to go back and stay much longer next time!
We spent Christmas week at Mike a Wilma's lovely property. With 8 people in our family, this was an excellent place to stay. Plenty of room. The property was beautifully kept. The bedrooms all had air conditioners. There is a generator on the property for outages. One of the things we enjoyed most was the location. With a private beach, a scuba dive shop next door and plenty of diving and snorkeling with minutes of the home, this was amazing location for us. We also appreciated Mike's help in arranging transportation throughout the week. It also was so nice to have a cook who prepared wonderful meals when we needed them. The cook is young and not very experienced in working in this setting in my opinion. I think with time he will get better. We would highly recommend this property with the warning that there are a lot of stairs up to the large house. Also a warning that you will forget that you are near the crazy, busy town of Puerto Galera. The home really is in a beautiful location and you feel like you are in an Oasis.
Dear Mike and Wilma, you are the best!! Even with all that rain, a whole pig for dinner, picnics on secluded beaches, walks trough the mud in local villages, loads of San Miguel and the fact that you're terrible sailor... we still love you!!! We just can't wait the get back to your piece of paradise! Cheers, Karen, Art, Suzy, Kit, Piet, Lola, and Pat!!
“Heaven on earth!”
I'm almost hesitant to say how good everything really was as I do believe it will become very difficult to secure dates at the villa very soon as this gem is discovered! Congratulations to Mike and Wilma, they have an amazing place, provide an excellent service and their location is out of this world. Mike and Wilma have thought of everything and go out of their way to ensure that everyone is happy. The house is bright and airy with magnificent views from every room. The balcony is an ideal setting for meals with the huge trees providing a welcome shade canopy on hotter days. The setting is really amazing and would be ideal for a wedding ceremony, Renewal of Vows, or a special birthday celebration. The setting is more beautiful than the photos posted. Badette was our housekeeper, it will take a long time to forget her smiley face as we will all curse as we try and shed the kilos gained from her amazing cooking! Mike and Wilma are able to arrange any sightseeing activities with the locals which are very good and reliable. We have to mention Jeff and Fred, the two resident dogs, were honoured when they escourted us often on our daily walks into town. Just down the road is a new restaurant, The Easter Island Restobar, they provide excellent food, great cocktails and the service is very good. Paul & Lorraine from Tech Diving are just next door and provided amazing diving for our children.
“A luxurious getaway with a homey, personal touch”
Do go and stay at Mike and Wilma's place if you're looking for someplace secluded, quiet, comfortable, and incredibly well-run. Here's a list of just some of the things I loved about our stay: - Relatively short trip from Manila (~3 hours total), all transportation pre-arranged by Mike - Beautiful house: spacious and airy, with hardwood floors, a large balcony, full kitchen, and bar on the second floor - Neat rooms with large ceiling fan, AC (not too necessary), and private bathroom/shower - Our own personal chef who let us decide our own menu, and shopped for fresh ingredients for every meal - Beautifully landscaped hillside, very neat and organically designed, pebbled path and stairs winding down the grassy hill - Cool tiki bar next to the beach - Neighboring town (Puerto Galera) is only about a 20-minute walk down the main road, or a 5-minute tricycle ride - Mike & crew can arrange daytrips or boat rides for you, so you can be as adventurous or as laid-back and relaxed as you like! And a couple bonuses: - Mike is always around to check in on you or answer questions - Keep an eye out for little geckos in the big house, they hang out on the walls at night and eat insects! - Attention to detail: ipod ports/speakers in the second-story living room and tiki house so we can listen to music, outdoor shower spigot down on the beach to rinse off sand and salt - We had an early 6am flight out from Manila, and Mike not only let our party stay an extra half-day at no fee, he also arranged a late-night boat ride and van back to the airport for us. The boat ride was smooth, and beautiful: twinkling stars, distant lights on the islands, and glowing fishes(?) scattered by the boat as it cut through the water. Totally refreshing and relaxing. I came with a group of 8 friends (4 couples), and this place is definitely perfect for couples, families, and even older travelers who don't mind stairs or a potentially choppy hour-long boat ride. I'd love to bring my parents here!
Response from the owner Dear Emily,Veronica and All, Sorry I did not manage to say goodbye before you left - I was so tired that day I fell asleep! Anway glad you enjoyed the night crossing and your stay and we would be delighted if you return sometime. Best wishes, Mike and Wilma
I did a good amount of research before we booked Mike and Wilma's place. I had been to the Puerto Galera area about 10 years before and knew that it had a lot to offer for a 5 day break. I also knew that it was a relatively easy journey from Manila - which was attractive as we were a party of 16 people. I could tell that Mike and Wilma's place would suit our needs perfectly and so it proved. From the outset (from our first point of enquiry) Mike was very helpful and quick to respond to any questions that we had. When we actually reached Mangrove Cove Mike was very friendly, welcoming - as were his helpers, Sharon and Lisa. They made our stay very enjoyable indeed. The location of the villas is so scenic that you cannot fail to just sit back, relax and enjoy.
I arrived by boat with 4 girlfriends, as we pulled up to the private beach we were absolutely amazed- it was even more impressive than the photos. Mike showed us around and gave us lots of ideas for trips for the week. He introduced us to Mae who was available all week to cook local food and organise trips/boats/massages for us. The views were simply stunning and the rooms were very comfortable. I highly recommend this for a quiet retreat, if you want to get a way from it all and enjoy the sunshine this is perfect. We visited the more vibrant white beach with its beach bars and nightlife but this was 40 minutes away, however we were very happy to enjoy the cooking, company and serenity of the villa and highly recommend it!
Response from the owner Hi Rosie, You were delightful guests and I was very happy to see you relaxing completely from your stressful jobs and enjoying time together.Hope you can make it back here sometime! Best wishes to you all , Mike
“Peace and Happiness”
A lovely development with total privacy. Very spacious and airy with separate room for the kids, this suit a large family or two vacationing together. The ground staff keep the extensive tree shaded gardens, down to the secluded beach (that cant be accessed by anyone else)and the beach cabana and shower areas. Mike and Wilma cant do enough for you. We used the private transportation service recommended and this went very well to get from Manila to the port (which is a bit chaotic) for the crossing. Recomend you take drinks and use the MSL ferries as they are fast and direct to Muelle Bay. A great vacation.
“the Crème de la Crème”
Of course there are lots of beautiful resorts in Puerto Galera, but what makes Mangrove Cove very unique is that it is very exquisite. The villas are designed with passion, the interior decorations are very well chosen and so with the landscaping. One of the best things is dining on the porch with this breathtaking view of the sea. And when the sun sets and darkness comes, the light of the moon or of the stars in the sky and the fireflies ( just flying all around you) will just fascinate your heart and you will begin to praise God, the Creator of them all. Vacation is actually not complete without being pampered. With Mae's help, almost every wish we had was taken care of. Mae cooked very, very good for us.We were also thankful for Melvin (Mae's husband) for guiding us to the best snorkeling places in Puerto like Coral Garden, to the Giant clam, Haligi beach and so on. There are lots of places to discover in this Island ,but we just had not enough time. It was really one of our best stays in the Phil. this Year. But what made it more memorable are the people we won as friends, like the nice owners, Mike & Wilma; Mae & Melvin & their families. Given another chance, we will surely go back to this place.
“A natural, peaceful place with a magnificent environment.”
Andrea and I came to Mike and Wlma's small resort, on Pirate's Cove on January 14. We remained there, in one of three cottagews until March 17. The resort consists of two cottages and the main house having 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and numerous patios and balconies. All are tastefully made in native style using local woods and thatch. Our cottage was on tree floors--bedroom/bathroom; bedroom/athroom, kitchen with 4 burner gas range and oven. The homes are tastefully decorated; all furniture is handmade and bathroom showers and sinks are state of the art. There is always ample of hot water. Hoowever, what makes this resort nothing short of spectacular is the way it has been conceived to blend into the natural envirnonment. Wherever you sit or walk the views are exceptionally beautiful---the cove, Batangas Channel and Manila Channel, Boquete Is.---is a photographer's delight. The house themselves are surrounded by gorgeous stone walkways leading to sandy private beach, where there is a bar. Between the two sets of walkways is amajestic garden of exotic plants, trees and shrubs. The water of Pirate's Cove is clear, green and always calm. Swimming is a delight! If you enjoy nature and are looking for peace, trnaquility and a spiritual overhaul, this is the place for you.
Response from the owner Andrea and Morey, it has been a pleasure having you stay with us - we look forward to seeing you next year! Mike and Wilma
