“Perfection in every way!”
My husband, I and our two kids stayed in this ideal Amsterdam apartment for 4 nights. It was clean, bright, and had everything we needed. Our favorite aspect was the sunny great room with large glass doors that opened wide. With the doors flung open, we spent happy early mornings and evenings enjoying the happenings on the canal below us. The apartment is in a lovely quiet neighbourhood, within walking distance to the centre of Amsterdam but away from the hustle and bustle. Wouter is a ship-builder and the apartment features many clever ship-related design details. He was the ideal guide for an enjoyable canal tour, sharing many details of the city and the Amsterdam community. Our son will always remember steering Wouter's boat through the canals. Wouter was an ideal host who made us feel welcome and cared for. If we have the good fortune to return to Amsterdam again, we would return to this lovely home-away-from-home.
“Everything we had hoped for and more!”
We traveled to Amsterdam with two teenage boys this past June. We stayed in the two bedroomed Boat House apartment owned by Wouter and Liesbeth for 5 nights. It was simply wonderful. The beds were comfortable, the entire place was exceptionally clean and I loved the way the large sliding doors opened onto the canal so the breeze could flow through the apartment. The kitchen was well equipped and Wouter and Liesbeth even stocked the fridge with some drinks and snacks which our teenagers devoured after a long flight from Canada. Beautiful fresh flowers in the dining room also! Wouter took us for a boat ride down the canals which was very enjoyable. The location was perfect as it was only a 10 minute walk to the station but in such a quiet part of Amsterdam. You almost forgot you were in the city. Our hosts were so welcoming and pleasant and I can't think of anything I would suggest to improve the apartment. I would recommend this apartment to any friends traveling to Amsterdam. By far, one of the nicest places we've stayed to date. Thanks Wouter and Liesbeth! We hope to be back.
“This place is outstanding - book it now!”
What a wonderful place to stay, and what lovely people who own and run it. We feel so fortunate to have found the Boat House in amsterdam, which is even better than it looks on the rental listing site. It is spotlessly clean, beautifully appointed, the fixtures and fittings are excellent and it is a calm, quiet haven, where you can enjoy the views of the canal, cook great meals and relax. Wouter and Liesbeth have thought of everything to make their guests comfortable. How many landlords provide you with all the essentials for breakfast and a bottle of wine on arrival? Not many in our experience! The museum passes provided for four people were also much appreciated by us, as a family we find museum entrance fees can cost a lot for four people, and we certainly used the passes to good effect during our stay. The location of the apartment is great, close enough to the centre to walk everywhere if you choose, but also very quiet, away from the noisy nightlife of the very centre of the city. The highlight for all of us, and especially for our children, was the boat trip with Wouter around the amsterdam canals. My children will never forget the thrill of taking the wheel of a boat and being taught and encouraged to steer under the narrow amsterdam bridges. A lovely memory for them of their Netherlands holiday. I cannot recommend this apartment highly enough - only come to amsterdam when you know you can stay here! This is a truly special place.
“Wonderful, classy, peaceful with views to die for !”
Dear Wouter, We just wanted to contact you, to repeat to yourself and your wife Lisbeth, how much we enjoyed our stay at the Boat House. We have been coming to amsterdam every year for the last 10 years and have stayed in some beautiful (and not so beautiful) residences. The Boat House surpassed all previous stays with its charm and style. The views are incredible and 'vibe' of the island is perfect. All four of us were completely blown away ! We would also like to thank you for the little extras, such a welcome touch, from the coffee and tea to wine and juice in the fridge and even our own slippers !! Finally, we enjoyed the boat trip around the beautiful canals so much, made even more special being served hot drinks and cookies on board. You have a beautiful place and we can't wait to return. Many thanks again for a wonderful weekend.
“Perfect place to stay”
Myself and a friend stayed for 2 nights in the wonderfully stylish and spacious Wharf House. Our hosts, Wouter and Liesbeth, were very welcoming and keen to help us have the best stay possible - which we did. Every possible amenity is available in the accomodation - it is clean, bright and yet homely - with wonderful floor to ceiling windows overlooking the canal - a real treat to wake up to. The personal touches of wine, croissants, tea, coffee and milk supplied for our convenience was much appreciated - as were the museum cards for free entry and the local mobile phone provided - in case we got lost! The added convenience of having the option of pick-up/drop-off to airport was greatly welcomed by us - no worrying about how to find the area, etc. - also, the option of a boat trip through the canals captained by Wouter, is a must. Unfortunately for us the recent storm had uprooted a few trees along the smaller canals, making it impossible to pass, but still - a wonderful experience. If you are thinking of visiting amsterdam - don't pay huge prices to stay in impersonal, sterile hotels - treat yourself and stay at the Wharf House!
“Wonderful place with great hosts!!!”
Thank you for the wonderful three nights stay. It gave us one of the most beautiful canal view and the apartment was very well maintain. It had everything you need inside. Owners have so carefully and thoughtfully provided everything. From toiletries, to kitchen utensils, to laundry detergent, and even umbrellas (which came in handy for us as it rained during our stay), all were nicely provided to ensure we had a good stay. Owner even provided orange juice and white wine for us in the fridge. It was like they really had thought about having the place for themselves to stay... we couldn't find anything missing. The apartment and its area was quiet and we could enjoy the canal view everyday through the patio and dining area. It is like we had everything really! In fact, throughout stay during our holidays, the Boat House has set the standards so high that none of the rest of the apartments that we rented could meet the same kind of comfort we had there. Thanks for everything!
“Waterside haven in a chilled out part of town.”
I stayed at The Boat House this weekend with 2 friends and we were blown away by the high standard of this accommodation and the brilliant location. The Boat House is clean, light and modern, with lovely nautical touches. The bedrooms are both a great size with comfy, large beds and doors that open onto a terrace next to the water. Upstairs is a well equipped kitchen and modern, comfortable living area, with floor to ceiling windows that open fully onto views of the canal. The Ipod dock was great and the both bedrooms and the living room had widescreen TVs in them. We were delighted to find the kitchen was thoughtfully stocked with bread, spreads, juice, coffee, milk, tea etc as well as a bottle of bubbles to welcome us to amsterdam. Wouter and Liesbeth were great hosts, they lent us a phone for emergencies or making dinner reservations. They recommended places to eat (including a great little place just around the corner, 't Blauwhooft, which did amazing fondue) and rented us lovely bikes at a very reasonable price. Wouter - who used to be a ship builder, the boat house actually was his boat house - also took us on a relaxing boat trip around the canals and rivers of amsterdam. The house is at the top of the Jordaan, on a little Island, in a area that used to be dockyards and warehouses. We found it was a very cool, chilled place to stay away from the madness and hustle of the centre of amsterdam yet still easy to reach the sites either on foot or by bike (there is a tram stop nearby as well). I would not hesitate to recommend The Boat House and hope to return myself one day. Thank-you Wouter & Leisbeth!
“A quiet oasis in central amsterdam”
The Boat House was a perfect place for our first trip to amsterdam. Its central location was easily accessed by foot even for my senior parents. Banks, restaurants and grocery stores are close by on Haarlemer Straat. The museums are an easy tram ride away. The Boat House has two fabulously comfortable king sized beds in bedrooms on the main floor overlooking the canal. You can see boats float by from the bedroom windows! Up the stairs is the fully equipped kitchen and comfortable living area. There were even some treats waiting for us in the kitchen! Leisbeth and Wouter went out of their way to make sure that we were well looked after during our stay. The apartment was spotless and well maintained. I would definitely recommend the Boat House as the perfect place to stay in amsterdam!
We stayed here with our two teenage children for a long weekend and were totally impressed with the Boat House, the owners, and the location. The house is modern, clean, and beautiful with all the comforts of home, lovely views from the huge windows, lovely bedrooms, all spotlessly clean and well furnished, and with very good kitchen facilities. A generous welcome pack of snacks was a most welcome surprise. The neighbourhood is really pleasant - quiet, mainly residential and with a couple of good restaurants / cafes, and made for lovely evening strolls. It's also very convenient to get to and from the station, and the local shops, a short walk or cycle away. The owners live next door, met us when we arrived and were really helpful and friendly. We hired bicycles from the owners who only charged for the days we used them - another sign of their great approach and attitude. We've stayed in several self-catering units for city breaks in the last couple of years and all voted this the best, by a long way. Superb!! Ian and Jeannine
My husband and I loved our stay at The Wharfhouse. The apartment is light and airy, well appointed and pristine. It is in a village style setting just a short walk from Central Station and many of this city's delights. The managers are just wonderful. We had a seamless check in. The apartment had fresh flowers, assortments of beverages (including wine) Dutch biscuits and breakfast spreads. Two local restaurants worth checking out are 'Worst' and 'Couscousine'. There is a brilliant market on Sundays at Westerpark. The Wharfhouse is by far the best place we have stayed whilst in Holland!
