Very Good

“I was so spoiled there that nowhere els was nearly as fun, relax”

Reviewed 21 Mar 2014

I loved this place because, the service was amazing, the horses were beautiful and fun to visit, and the house was amazing! I loved the horse back rides, hitana (the dog), and Tonka (the water buffalo). They were so much fun. Also, the scenery was astonishing! The mountains were so breath taking, as well as the garden. Everyone there was very nice and very fun to talk to. Overall this was the best place that I stayed in Costa Rica, and I hope to be comming back again soon. Thank you for an awesome experience.

“Simply Ideal”

Reviewed 19 Feb 2014

We initially stayed in Esteban's one bedroom unit, but moved into this 2 bedroom villa when friends joined us. It was perfect for our purposes...2 spacious and tastefully appointed bedrooms and bathrooms with a well-equipped kitchen in between. There are three villas on the property, but each is so private and beautifully landscaped. We wanted to be near the attractions of La Fortuna but we treasured the peace and quiet of this ranch. It was a treat to be able to sleep with windows and doors open feeling completely secure and no mosquitos or other stinging creatures. To sit on the veranda in the morning with a cup of coffee and watch the horses in the field and the mist clearing to reveal the hills...magic. We didn't have to travel to La Fortuna for activities all the time. The ranch had plenty to offer. Although we hadn't ridden in years, we were coached to ride beautiful animals through sugar cane fields and along a river bed. The aTV ride over the hills to the hot springs was a good adventure. We can't say enough about the support that Esteban provided in planning our arrival and activities in Costa Rica. We opted for an airport pick-up by one of his staff and our trip to the ranch was more of a tour and a wonderful introduction to the country. Esteban also arranged our car hire - delivered directly to the ranch when we were ready for it at a very competitive cost. We soon realized that if recommended by Eateban, it would be the best.

“Wonderfull stay, we'll be back!”

Just returned from our first trip to Costa Rica and I'd like to thank Esteban for helping to make it so awesome! His property is truly beautiful and the accommodations are of the highest standards. We stayed in the Villa Frutales. It has an amazing view with lovely decor, super comfortable large beds and one of the best equipped kitchens we've encountered. You will not want to leave this wonderful property! The excursions arranged by Esteban were excellent. We enjoyed horseback riding on the best trained and well cared for horses we've ever ridden and a tour on atv's to the relaxing hot springs. Donnie was our friendly and informative bilingual guide. He made sure we were entertained and safe as he shared his knowledge of the area. Our family of three (couple with teenager) have stayed in more than 20 different apartments in Italy, France, Spain, Mexico, California, Florida in the past 6 years and we've never wanted to stay in the same place twice, this place will be an exception. We will be back!

“This is a relaxing, peaceful vista. From there, add as much exci”

Take the opportunity to escape a little bit: get off the downtown sidewalk and into the beautiful countryside that is minutes away. Go down a gravel road to the property gate, up the beautifully landscaped drive, to the vacation villa. The villa has two distinct wraparound porches. One is accessible from the front entrance and the left bedroom. The other is accessible from the main dining/family area and the right bedroom. Inside the front door, you walk into an open air (covered) kitchen and dining area. This is where we came together in the morning and evening. The furniture on the terrace is comfortable, the hammock relaxing, the view stunning. The fenced-in pasture begins just a few yards from the terrace. The same three horses were in that pasture every day. And they prefer bananas over apples. Warn the children not turn touch the fence - it does administer a small and mildly uncomfortable correction. The bedrooms are lovely, clean and air conditioned. The bathrooms are luxurious. The concepts and engineering are clever. It's a fun place to stay. Since the bedrooms are on opposite sides of that central area, everybody feels like they have their own space. Esteban's stable is outstanding. His crew is, also, top notch. We had the full range of riding experience, including children, and there was a suitable horse for each person. The horses are superbly trained. They appear to have a nice balance between being secure animals, but responsive to the gentlest of guidance. You will not find the over-guided experience, here. If you want to run the horses, only ask where is the best place to do so. You can run - fast and hard. Finally, allow Esteban to help plan your ziplining, white water rafting and volcano experiences. He has the contacts and the organization to do so. He saved us a number of steps and a number of dollars. This is an outstanding base for your vacation in North Central Costa Rica. Say hello to the family Dachshund - we miss her.

“What Luck to Find this Villa”

Reviewed 5 Aug 2013

What an amazing villa... on a scale of 1-10, this villa is a 20! Located east of La Fortuna near Platanar, it offered my wife, daughter and I a little of everything: adventure, privacy, relaxation and an authentic Costa Rican experience. The photos don't do the villa justice. It is beautifully decorated and the layout is unique and comfortable. A central open-air kitchen and dining room lead out to a veranda with a seating area and views of the mountains and horses playing in the pasture. There are two air-conditioned bedrooms on opposite sides of the common area - each with its own bathroom and amazing views. The master suite is worthy of a luxury resort. If you are lucky, the family's dachshund will pay you a visit - something that delighted my daughter. The villa's owner, Esteban, was a gracious host and treated us as if we were close friends. He not only helped us coordinate activities while at the villa, he helped us plan the remainder of our trip. Every one of his recommendations (and warnings) was spot on. Two of our favorite activities while at the villa were a morning horseback ride and an aTV ride through the fields to a local hot spring. Our guide for both was Jonathan and I can't praise him enough. He did a great job customizing each outing based on the various levels of abilities and our interests. We will definitely return to this villa on our next trip to Costa Rica.

“Memories for a Lifetime”

Reviewed 21 Jul 2013

We choose this location for the first week of our three-week trip in Costa Rica. It was a great place in a wonderful setting. Then we met Estaban who played a vital role in making the entire trip an experience we will remember for a lifetime. We like adventure, quality and privacy and traveled with our kids, age 18 and 20. The accommodations and setting was perfect; peaceful, very comfortable, modestly elegant with everything you need to make your stay a wonderful experience. We chose active days in the surrounding area of arenal (20 min drive) and quiet evenings back at the ranch. The setting is a horse ranch and one of our favorite parts was morning coffee in the hammock on the porch watching the sunrise over the mountains and the horses paying in the pasture. Nature came alive with all of the sights and sounds of birds and butterflies. Estaban lives on the ranch and was always available for recommendations on local tour operators. The first one was a 10/10 and from there we trusted his recommendations which led us to incredible experiences we could not have envisioned, both locally and in the other parts of Costa Rica. He is a kind and classy individual whose passion for his country is only matched by his knowledge and sincere desire for us to enjoy our time there. We went white water rafting, crayoning, zip lining and exploring nature in the rich ecological environment. My wife grew up riding horses so her standards are high. We spent a morning riding Estaban's horses through creeks, rivers, full on galloped in open pastures and saw spectacular sights. After a wonderful lunch and siesta, we headed on Estaban's powerful atv's through back country, hills, valleys, mountains and visited Hot Springs. The night drive home was spectacular. Estaban's recommendations of where else to visit led to two of the best locations we have visited in the world. We hope you are fortunate enough to stay here and get to know Costa Rica's best ambassador.

“Beautiful setting”

We enjoyed our stay at the ranch, very beautiful landscape and nicely designed villa. Upon our request we were served a very good breakfast in our villa. Having a car is advisable. Restaurants are in next village about 5 minutes away.

“Wonderful experience”

Our stay at Estabon's horse ranch villa was wonderful. The house is beautiful & the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Estabon & his wife were great hosts. Estabon was very helpful in providing advice & arrangements for sight-seeing and excursions. Their dachshund (whom we re-named La Hermosa) was our special guest a couple of evenings; she was also a delight. We could not have asked for a better experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wish to return again.

“Beautiful and peaceful...the perfect getaway!”

My family (me, wife and two daughters 8 and 16) stayed at Esteban and Monica's villa for 5 days. Our time there was wonderful and exceeded our expectations. We arrived with no schedule and were simply looking for a place to unwind and relax and we could not have picked a better place. We stayed in the newer villa which sits on a hill over looking the Platanar Volcano. The villa is very nice with comfortable and modern amenities. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes and cooking utensils and nice appliances. We especially loved the views from our bedroom in the morning. We were able to pick delicious grapefruit, star fruit, oranges and other fruits from the trees just outside our door. The location is great. Very secluded and quiet. The tourist town of La Fortuna and Volcan arenal are an easy 20-30 minutes drive. There is also a nice grocery store 10 minutes away. My oldest daughter is an equine enthusiast and loved to walk down to the stables and spend time getting acquainted with the horses. We had an incredible time riding horses through pineapple plantations and sugar cane fields as well as through streams and rivers. Our guide, Jonathan was great. He was very knowledgeable of the area and made the experience very enjoyable. I had never been on a horse prior to this trip but Jonathan paired me with a great horse and within minutes I felt confident and comfortable. Esteban was also super helpful before and during our trip. He was always quick to respond to my emails and went above and beyond. If you are renting a vehicle have Esteban make the arrangements for you (he will save you money). We would highly recommend this property. Pura Vida!

Everything was great, the place, the activities, the house and the owner. It's a place to stay at least 4-5 days. We will come back.
