“Rural tranquility close to town.”

Reviewed 3 Apr 2015

My husband and I stayed for a week during a rather chilly spring break. However, we were never cold as Suzanne left firewood for us every day. The cottage is absolutelyperfect and had everything we could ever need. The stairs to the bedroom loft and the clawfoot tub might present a spot of trouble for older (we're in our 60s) folks but we were okay with it. Another very pleasant surprise was to have locally made items in the cottage to purchase. Suzanne keeps bees and the honey is divine. We bought some for our "house-sitter" to enjoy as well as ourselves. A lovely stay and we will definitely stay again!

“The loveliest holiday rental I've ever seen!”

With the exception of finding cash under my pillow, this quaint converted barn had everything I was looking for. I had morning tea on the front porch listening to the birds sing. My son and I ate our dinners on the back porch. Our dessert was berries from the bushes beside the barn. Our afternoons were filled with local beach walks and hiking in the rain forest and alpine fields of Mt. Washington. I see myself retiring to a place just like Applewood Cottage.

“Great Cottage for Young Families”

Reviewed 24 Jun 2014

We booked the Applewood Cottage for a week along with my sister and brother in law and their children. There were eight of us all together, four young children and four adults. We really enjoyed our stay here! The cottage was welcoming and very well-stocked for all our needs. We took full advantage of the back deck and ate most of our meals out there as well as serving as a playspace for the kids. We would definitely all come back and it made a great home base for our time on the Island!

“Down the lane, across the sunny glade and into a beautifully kept cabin at the end of a long journey.”

Applewood Cottage was the best place I've stayed in a long time. Our little kids made us promise to come back every year. What a sweet outdoor shower, gorgeous deck for dinners, cozy living space complete with perfect piano for songwriters to noodle on, a kitchen nook that accommodates grownups and wiggly kids, an upstairs peaceful retreat in comfy beds, clawfoot tub, laundry, woodstove and pull-out couch beside the delightful window seat. Nighttimes outside in the deck chairs listening to the frogs, mornings waking up to gently filtered light through resplendent trees. We couldn't have been more happy. Thank you so very very much.

“An idyll - Apres ski done with elegance, warmth and charm”

Reviewed 20 Mar 2014

The cottage is a little miracle - absolutely perfect for a two-night spring ski trip for three. Suzanne was lovely: in touch beforehand and there to greet us with a fire already crackling, little lights twinkling around the window, and homemade muffins, fresh fruit, juice and yogurts for our first breakfast. The cottage is an idyll - just as pictured, only the photos don't do justice to the sensible, attractive use of space in the beautifully refurbished two-story barn. Upstairs: a spacious and very pretty master bedroom with desk nook and truckle bed/settee. Downstairs: a big bathroom with enormous tub (pride of place mid-winter...), spritely forest views out the many windows, elegant country furnishings throughout. Common spaces are well allocated - snug without feeling at all cramped: well-laid out, fully equipped little kitchen; dining nook that would sit six; living room with very comfortable leather couch that makes a very comfortable twin bed. And a piano! The central fireplace heats well and was well-stocked. Plus all the modern conveniences (big flatscreen, microwave, washer/dryer, wifi, radio and CD selection, loads of hot hot water, although we felt inspired to enjoy rather than indulge ourselves with all the amenities). And completely spotless, with loads of fresh white linens and towels. The mountain is a half hour's drive. Town is five minutes and has everything: coffee shops, high end retail, a super thrift store, big grocery stores, movie showings. I fell for Hot Chocolate on the main strip for beautiful chocolates, coffee and fresh bread. We honestly couldn't have asked for more or a more completely charming place to be. At night, a chorus of frogs like I've never heard. It felt magical. Highly recommended and very very good value for a small ski party. Thank you, Suzanne, for keeping such an artfully restored country retreat, and for your welcome and consideration of our family time there together. I hope to be back next year.

“Cute, cozy and peaceful”

Reviewed 23 Feb 2014

We stayed at applewood Cottage for two nights in February 2014 and thoroughly enjoyed this extremely quiet, private and cosy cottage! The cottage is surrounded by trees and there are two decks (one covered) which allow you to enjoy the outdoors very privately. The inside of the cottage is cozy and rustic which we found to be very charming and let us relax by "unplugging" from daily life. During the day we would either go up to Mt. Washington or explore other parts of the Comox Valley. By night time we enjoyed drinking wine in the living room while talking, listening to music, and stoking the wood stove. Upon arrival the wood stove was lit and the owner Suzanne greeted us. The continental breakfast was waiting for us along with cream and juice in the fridge. The kitchen is equipped with a small fridge and stove, cooking pans and utensils, microwave, coffee maker and tea kettle but if you plan on cooking bring your own seasonings and/or butter. The furniture is comfortable and makes you feel like you could live there as your home away from home. Overall, if you are looking for peace and quiet yet only 5 mins from Courtenay we would highly recommend this lovely cottage!

“Rejuvinating”

Reviewed 7 Feb 2014

This place is a true gem, tucked away in the back of a very private property, quiet and tranquil. I loved the thoughtful touches, warm woolies for those who might forget their slippers, a fire already started in the wood stove and a fresh breakfast with home made muffins. The owner is a supporter of local arts and it was fun to be able to browse and shop for cards, knitted goods, Cd's and jams in the comfort of my own accommodations. I will definitely stay here again.

“Charming Oasis”

Reviewed 27 Aug 2013

We stayed here during music fest, it was just the perfect quiet oasis for 5 of us to escape back to. It's a darling little forties style cabin, bead board cupboards, chinz table cloths, clawfoot tub. There was no shabby in the chic, it was all perfectly delightful spotless and in great working order. The outdoor shower was charming and the little meadow in the trees. A very private space, easy to get to everywhere and yet very private and " tucked away".

“super cozy cottage”

Reviewed 31 Jul 2013

This cottage is just like the photos, its so cute inside and out and very cozy and has some lovely features. the back patio is a great place to have a glass of wine and there is an outdoor shower and lovely tub. very quiet, very relaxing and suzanne is lovely and welcoming. It's the perfect place to go for a romantic getaway. i visited in the summer but it seems like it would be so cozy in the winter too with a fire going in the wood stove.

“Perfect!”
