“A gem of a Getaway”

Reviewed 7 Feb 2013

I've travelled to Scotland 4 times and never been disappointed between overwhelming scenery, dazing castles, warm pub atmospheres and even beaches in the summer. The Trossachs is a great area to be. I hesitated many times in making this review for selfish reasons and as a matter of fact I'm still not confortable to share such unique location with the rest of the world. But I needed to find a way to thank Iain and Mary for sharing such unique place (hopefully if not many people read this review...) Brenachoil View Cottage is a perfect spot to explore the Trossachs. Inside the private area of Loch Katrine (I hadn't previously explore the loch because it is closed for public access unless you pay at the Pier a not so friendly amount) you'll travel through a beautiful private road (there are but a few houses in the massive area of the lake). It is plain simple to get to the cottage (about 1 hour from Glasgow and 1 hour 15m from Edinburgh). The house has great views over the lake and peaks (Ben Venue) even from the bathroom! It has all the facilities you can imagine and everything works as suggested. Ian and Mary are extremely welcoming people (for instance when I forgot to recharge the fire and I arrived at night with my fire lighten and a warm house). Spend a week there and expect to (1) sleep in the second floor with an over-the-bed window open to the night sky (2) wake up to the sound of picturesque birds that are carefully fed by the owners (3) either to climb menacing mountains to claim their top or walk/drive to tons of historical monuments (from the Neolithic to castles and Rob Roy Macgregor's graveyard), (4) have the opportunity to play with energetic Jack Russell Terriers (2 warm-welcoming dogs), (5) at night read below mighty thunderstorms and (6) enjoy a great selection of board games and Dvds that can be used unreservedly. I leave my kind regards to Iain and Mary with hopes to return one day (sooner rather than later) Luís

Response from the owner Luis, what a lovely review you have given Iain and myself, i hope you enjoyed the next stage of your holiday. Thank you for leaving Brenachoil view so clean and tidy, much appreciated (obrigada ? ) We wish you both well, safe travels and hope to see you again Mary & Iain.

“Wonderful view”

Reviewed 1 Nov 2012

The view from the cottage even on a rainy day is wondeful. Lots of walking and golfing in the area. Mary and her husband were kindness itself when for family reasons one of us had to leave early. I cannot say how grateful we were for the extra care and hospitality.

This year was the second time we've stayed at Brenachoil View and I can honestly say this property has the best view of any property we've stayed at in Scotland. Mary & Iain's hospitality is excellent and they do everything they can to ensure your stay is memorable. Loch Katrine and the surrounding area is a mecca for walkers from a gentle stroll to something more strenuous. Cyclists are also well catered for from the well paved loch road to national mountain bike tracks. Good food and drink can be had in the Byre Inn and the licensed tea room at Brig 'O Turk or further afield in Callander,Aberfoyle and Kinlochard. All-in-all, I can highly recommend both the property and the area - You'll love it!!

Response from the owner Hi Kris & simon, Thanks for such a lovely review, we very much appreciate your positive feed back, as we do our best to welcome our guest there pets & children.

“A fabulous holiday that we will remember forever!”

Brenachoile cottage has everything you need for a self catering holiday and is of a very high standard. Mary and Iain have thought of everything and will go out of thier way to help with anything you need. The cottage is in a beautiful location with fabulous views of Loch Katrine and the surrounding hills, and has something for everyone from quiet lochside walks to mountain biking. Although it is a lovely secluded area it is also well placed for lots of attractions, and we would recommend The Byre Inn for good local food.We had fabulous weather but there is a log burner for cosy nights if it turns chilly. There is plenty to do and see at any time of the year, and we loved watching all the different birds that visit the garden daily. There is lots of information provided for things to do/places to visit and we would thoroughly recommend a visit in any season.

Response from the owner Thank you Kim & Iain for such a lovely review, i hope you had a safe journey home. Loch Katrine is a special place, take care Kind Regards Mary & Iain Barrie.

“Beautiful Loch Katrine Cottage”

Reviewed 6 Sep 2012

The owners gave a warm and friendly welcome and made our stay a pleasurable experiance. The scenery was beautiful everywhere and there were plenty of excursions. The whole week was both relaxing and enjoyable and the accomadation met all of our needs. We would recommend this cottage and location to anyone.

“comfortable, relaxing break whatever the weather”

Reviewed 2 Sep 2012

Mary and Iain are friendly and helpful with a whealth of knowledge about the area. The cottage is lovely, light and airy with a fabulous wood burner in the lounge for the cold, wet evenings. The nearest shops are in Callender, however one of the larger supermarkets will deliver prior to your arrival and Mary will unpack it if you wish. There are lots of walks in the immediate vicinity and also in the Queen Elizabeth Forest. The steamship sailings on Loch Katrine are also very interesting, however sailing schedules can change unexpectedly depending on the weather. The one and a half mile drive on the narrow road, around the loch to the cottage is a bit of a pain but would not stop me returning for another holiday.

“Heart of Scotland Bliss”

Reviewed 26 Aug 2012

My wife and I stayed at this lovely home, it was well cared for and well appointed. We were very comfortable. My wife's sister and husband drove up from England to stay with us as well. 2 floors, we all had the space to enjoy ourselves. Beautiful deck w/ views across the Loch, close to many wonderful places to visit, drive and hike, including the not-to-be-missed Callender. The Barries are gracious hosts. We will be back.

Response from the owner Thank you for you lovely review, I hope you had a safe journey home, take care. Regards Mary & Iain.
