“Excellent view but in need of significant maintenance”

Response from the owner Wow is all about I can say... Maintenance issues ? Water pressure is what we can manage in Nicaragua and in the development we have sometimes less pressure depending on over all useage and especially during big holiday weeks one can expect it to drop somewhat.... but I am here now in January and it is more than good. Hot water is generated from a on demand heater and as the house is more than large with the bathrooms as far away as 100 feet it is normal to expect the water to only arrive hot after a few minutes. We have a guest manual at the house where this is explained fully. I have hot water now and when I arrived the day after these people left ! Microwave yes died... news to me on their arrival. This is Nicaragua and things happen... In fact it died a few months ago in August when I was here .... and although it is only a few years old and bought in Canada... and a nice wall mount and rather expensive unit... it died... so on repair we found the culprit - a gecko got in to make a home and short circuited it. Weird stuff happens. Stove works fine ... only we explained to these people when they arrived ! to put it on the manual setting which is with a clear diagram next to the stove itself.... It works fine. From what I know it was ok after we conversed.... no comment to me during their stay otherwise. Door handles and kithen and bathroom cabinets falling apart ? Rubbish... The cabinets in the bathrooms have really heavy wooden doors and one has to lift a bit and slide... Works for me and I am here. The kitchen has in fact a great Ikea kitchen I imported here ! works beautifully.... My kitchen is the envy of everyone I know in Nicaragua... just look at it ! This comment makes zero sense.... sliding panel doors... and equipped beyond belief... even escargot dishes ( if you can find escargot or bring them with you ). Yes we have multiple modems ... and Internet service works fine... not all the time but that is the supplier problem and all 3 suppliers in Nicaragua are not always up and running but that is not something I can control.... and again I am here for the past week or more and I am on line many many hours of the day - like up to 6 or more ?. This party that arrived were unable to connect to any of the wireless devices... they were not entering the pass codes correctly but on calling us in Canada we explained it to them ( which is also again in the home guest book ).... oh we have free telephone to Canada and the USA... which works also if the internet works. All past renters had zero problems connecting ! Yes there are 4 loungers.... more than adequate for all guests that have stayed over the past years... They are for guests.... personally I do not lay out in the sun and if I do it is a ten minute event as it is a total cooker here.... so far renting to 6 persons as our maximum we have not had anyone complain that they needed all 6 to be laying in the sun at the same time. ? I am sorry but this group of persons is thinking of the Hilton - not Nicaragua... and even up scale homes like mine - well they all have small imperfections and repairs are always happening and updates.... even now as I write this. I am sorry but these reviews by Trip Adviser go to wacky extremes it seems... it is like some persons who rent properties want to simply vent like they are travel critics... ie a loose cable on the terrace ? I have no clue what that means or implies as a problem... again I am here now and have no idea what this is about..... makes no sense. These people arrived without a car... another issue but all was advised to them well before and if they did not want to rent a car then to use cabs back to the house and the cost the taxi's would charge them as mentioned for being in a gated upscale place... then they find out all cars in town are fully rented out ( as they did not reserve one over the Xmas holidays ) so then they ask me to use my car... we agreed for only $30 per day... less than half the going rate for a rental and with Nelson to drive them around... ! They did not reply but somehow managed to get a small van at I am sure a steep price.... again adding to sour grapes in my estimation. We rented out 4 times over the 4 weeks before this group and only had great email thank you replies. I am sorry - most of these "review assessments" amount to petty gripes or picky picky or are basically false. I had a meeting of the development owners here on Jan 10 and new owners in Pacific Marlin were only too impressed on how exceptionally maintained our home looked -... and for me it functions also in a more than acceptable way compared to even upper end hotels in Latin America. I do not accept this type of review at all... If your expectations are only for 100% then stick to staying in luxury hotels in first world countries... We go out of our way to make rentals enjoyable but you cannot please everyone. Even when you do the extra for people ( see their review ) you can get in return such just lame commentaries. I have been doing rentals in Montreal now for over 10 years... with 7 fully furnished rental properties - and yes there are small issues to contend with all the time but again you will get some people who rent from you with more than incredible expectations.... but for the most part I have tons of return guests all the time.. and I may include also now to our house in San Juan del Sur... Including the CEO of one of the major banks who rents multiple times over the year. Ah... good with the bad... but honestly Flipkey "reviews" are sometimes really tiresome. Go figure

Response from the owner Mike... glad you enjoyed the house... I still cannot get over the views myself, everytime I arrive back. Not sure why someone would have told you not to use the dryer ? As for the keypads we do not use them ourselves as its real easy to lock but tricky sometimes to open...I bought them at Home Depot and it is a new brand which is complicated to set up...takes a 6 digit code for each to remember. We're going to try to deal with them this winter. The waterfall was a nice idea at the time but it was set up rather confusing and has to be run properly or the pump can burn out so we prefer not to have rentors use it... it is mostly for effect. The walk to the supermarket would take 30 minutes for sure... as it is out of the core of the town itself. We will try to find a couple cabs to use - but the problem is how reliable would they be... mabye for pick up at the house - if they have a cell ...but to return from town there are many cabs all around and especially parked along side the market.... all eager to make $10 for a short ride up to Pacific Marlin and the house. A car is the better way to go and besides then you can venture up and down the coast to the various beautiful beaches. Next time.
