“The National Geographic View Is Wonderful”
What a wonderful time we have had here in your Lower and Upper Nests! Your attention to our every comfort is amazing. Your Nests are clean, modern, cozy and full of little things to make it feel like home, as well as being excellent value for our money. The National Geographic view is wonderful...icebergs, seagull chick, harbor, fishing boats, the "last crab boat", fog, rain and sun. Being 20 steps from our daughter's work at the Mini Aquarium was also the best. I hope we can come back! Many thanks.
Response from the owner Thank you so much guys!!! Your daughter is a part of a big thing here in Petty Harbour! They had over 19,000 visits during the 2014 season - fantastic!!! Hope to see you both again!
Karen, sorry we did not get a chance to say farewell. We really enjoyed our 10 days in Petty Harbour, staying in the Lower Nest. As we mentioned when we saw you earlier in the visit, our accommodation was more than satisfactory in all respects. The unit is in wonderful condition and very well equipped. You thoughtfully provide enough provisions to get anyone started and cover off those household necessities that are difficult to purchase in small quantities for a short stay. Apart from the creature comforts, the Lower Nest is in a wonderful location to enjoy watching the activities in the harbour, either out on the deck or sitting inside at the table while eating. I have great pictures of the fishing boats going out in the early morning, and the men cleaning the fish. All from the balcony. And the generosity of the folks in Petty Harbour is worthy of mention. As you know, we were there during the week when fisherman can catch cod for their own use. We wandered down one day asking if we could purchase some of the fresh cod for dinner, only to be told that under the fishing regulations, they are not allowed to sell any of the fish they catch for personal use. But having said that, the fisherman very generously gave us at least 3 pounds of cod. Unasked for, unexpected, and very very generous. We left Newfoundland with very warm memories of our visit. Thanks again.
Response from the owner Hi K! Well you just gave us all a perfect "Nest's Eye View" of a vacation in Petty Harbour with ShoreLark by the Sea!! You got to experience all the best moments we have to offer! We are so thankful you shared this with everyone and are thrilled you guys had such a nice time. All the best!!!
“Very relaxed and wonderful accomodations”
I had a wonderful stay at the Shorelark. The accommodations were great. I especially appreciated the attention to detail, the owners were fantastic and really thought of everything!! The view of the harbour was amazing and it was wonderful waking up to the ocean every day.
Response from the owner Hi Dave, It was most enjoyable having you stay, and that you fully appreciated the amenities, especially on foggy days!
Your little slice of Heaven is just that. Thanks so much for the Lower Nest. I can't imagine a better place to spend a week. We thoroughly enjoyed the view and the village, and the hospitality of the Green's was outstanding. Thanks again. Larry and Rosemary Fischer Trenton ON
Response from the owner We agree–Petty Harbour is a slice of heaven! We wouldn't live anywhere else!
“A scenic sanctuary in any season”
This was my second time visiting Shorelark by the Sea - after a spectacular visit in the month of June, I had the pleasure of experiencing the monochromatic beauty of Petty Harbour in the winter. The best part of a day in the St. John's area was coming back "home" to the snug Nest and having the space and homey comfort that a hotel or motel can never really offer. Our hosts Karen and David are more like friends then hoteliers to us now, and I look forward to the day when I can get back for visit number three!
Response from the owner We were delighted to you you again so soon! Petty Harbour is such a lovely place even in the winter! Looking forward to see you again - have fun in Spain!!
“Lovely and Comfortable”
My husband and I stayed at ShoreLark by the Sea for a week for a family wedding in Petty Harbour. Karen and David were very welcoming hosts and made our visit memorable. Our accommodations were lovely and comfortable. When we arrived mid afternoon, we had arranged with Karen for a tray of delicious treats to be waiting for us. The partridgeberry jam on fresh bread the next morning was our favorite. We loved sitting on the balcony in the morning with our coffee, watching the fisherman as they brought in their catch to the harbor. When we visit our family again next year, we know where we will call "home" for a week.
Response from the owner Hi Joanne! It was such a pleasure meeting you and John! I can't believe almost a full year has gone by since we were all huddled out by the "fish fry" truck scrabbeling over a plate of chips...! Such fun!!! And what a wedding...the most unique ever....rubber boots and all! It was an honour to be invited along! Remember....my raincoat is here for you any time you want to "converse" with the whales again! I so hope that we will see you both very soon!! Take care.... K&D
“Would Return in a Heartbeat – Wonderful accommodation in Lovely”
We had the pleasure of staying in Upper Nest for a week in July, 2013. In the authentic fishing village of Petty Harbour, it's one of those finds that exceeds expectations, the actual is better than promised. It's clean, bright, tastefully appointed. Windows all round allow for views wherever you look and let wonderful breezes through. Lovely to wake up to sea air and sound of birds when warmly ensconced in a comfy bed. All the comforts are to be had - the furnishings, linens, kitchenware are clean and new. It features a balcony the length of the suite, with views of harbour and ocean. Great place for breakfast, watching the harbour come awake or to sit with a glass of wine at night to enjoy lights on the harbour. Very quiet, peaceful, with very little traffic below. Hosts, Karen and David, are lovely. They graciously accommodated our daughter staying for several days, even though the Nest accommodations are aimed at two. Our daughter loved the Nest, the town, and particularly the lobsters that Karen and David helped us buy from a neighbor, a local fisherman. They even brought over an extra lobster pot and cooler to help with our lobster feast. This will remain a highlight of our vacation. While we did not do this ourselves, would recommend their "Red-Plate Specials". Having met our hosts, I imagine they would be well worth it and as their website says, "Perfect for those arriving later in the evening or those on foot... packages provide plenty of breakfast for two people - everything you need to get you off to a great start on your first morning". We would return to the Nest in a heartbeat - it's the perfect base for exploring the area. It gives a true feeling of being away, experiencing an authentic way of life for Newfoundland and was the perfect start to our vacation. The Nest, our hosts, the location, the quiet - all perfect. We have absolutely no hesitation in recommending the Nest to others, even while wishing we could keep this gem all to ourselves.
Response from the owner Wow Lauri!! You should come back to stay at ShoreLark........and write a book! Such a lovely way with words! All the best to you and your family...we certainly hope to see you again. K&D
“Cozy and peaceful with great views and fresh air!”
What a wonderful end to our Newfoundland visit. We really enjoyed our stay in the Upper Nest! So cozy and peaceful. Clean and beautifully decorated. Lot's of nice touches. We especially enjoyed the views and fresh air from the deck! Hated to leave. Thanks, Karen and David, for providing such a lovely home away from home!
Response from the owner Thanks Holly! Nice to see you saved the best til last ;)! We are so happy you stayed with us! Take care, K&D.
“A special find. Feels like Newfoundland!”
Staying 5 nights in this picturesque saltbox was special. Clean, bright, comfortable and well furnished, with excellent harbour views. A great base for exploring the avalon Peninsula and St. John's. We really appreciated how well supplied our little "home" was. This was our only self-catering stay on The Rock so buying all the little things would have been a deterrent. Thanks also to Karen for helping to get our courier package from alberta.
Response from the owner Hi Susan, So glad you enjoyed your stay in Petty Harbour and that you had everything you needed in your little Nest! Take care, K&D
Wanted a place to chill out, relax after a very busy few weeks working over here. Couldn't have found a better spot and hosts. Absolutely superb. Shame I never found this place earlier and a shame to have to leave and head to the real world. The hosts were very ameniable and full of very helpfull advice, David certainely knows his quality beers. The accomodation was clean and in very good condition with a well equiped kitchen. There is a large bathroom and good views up the hills at the back from the bedroom. Great to sit on the balcony with a beer and feel the world go by. There is a small store in the village itself and a supermarket only a short drive away. Only thing missing is a decent waterside pub in the village.
Response from the owner Hi James....well we certainly look forward to seeing you again...and maybe having a pint too!!
