“Idyllic country retreat”

Reviewed 8 Jun 2013

Lovingly restored authentic Irish thatched cottage. Set in a quiet, farming community in the heart of County Derry. We have stayed in Rosies last summer and the summer before and plan to stay there again this year. Our 4 children, now aged 5 to 10 years old, absolutely love this cosy cottage. Every morning they run out to check on the turkeys and then stand on the gates to gaze out over the surrounding fields. At night they snuggle up in comfy beds with a turf fire burning in the stove. We spent days at the beaches at Benone, Magilligan and Portstewart, had picnicks in the Sperrin mountains, visited the Titanic centre and the beautiful Benvarden garden in Ballymoney. Monica and Michael are great hosts and are easy to contact if we need help with anything, while allowing us to get on with our family holiday the rest of the time

“The Heart of Northern Ireland”

Reviewed 24 May 2013

From the outside it looks like the quintessential thatched roof cottage, on the inside, all the comforts of modern living without losing any nostalgic value. Of all the amenities our absolute favorite was the turf burning stove in the living room. The cottage is situated just outside of Maghera making it a convenient hub from which to explore Northern Ireland. We spent a day in Londonderry/Derry, the next at the Giant's Causeway and Bushmills Distillery, the next driving the coastal roads looking for castles and scenic views, and our last day exploring Belfast. I wish we had more time and been able to explore around Maghera itself. The Sperrin Mountains are right there with suggested driving routes and walking trails. The following can be listed as a Pro or a Con but it should be noted that at the time of our stay there is no internet at the cottage. This in no way should discourage you from staying at Rosies Cottage. If you need internet access but don't want the high data plan costs we found that most tourist information centers have free wifi, as does Bushmills Distillery. I did not recommend Rosies Cottage for the "Luxury Minded Travelers" not because it lacks anything but just because it is hard to define what "Luxury" is to different individuals. Thank you Monica and Michael for your hospitality and for making this charming cottage available for the rest of us to enjoy!

“A cottage with a lot of hospitality”

Reviewed 21 Aug 2012

the foodstuffs for the first night/day were a great surprise, after a day of travelling. The home is very old, but successfully renewed with modern accents, and very clean. Domestic furniture. The surrounding is very quiet, rustic and typical N-Irisch. (The only thing we missed, was the dutch special cheese- knife, joke!!)

“A wonderful experience with way more than we expected!!”

Reviewed 17 Aug 2012

Our stay in your beautiful abode was the 'cherry on top' of our great, Ireland experience. The setting is absolutely stunning, out in the beautiful countryside, with close proximity to town. All we might possibly need was readily available. We enjoyed the best of both worlds with all the modern gadgets in an old-world atmosphere. Your warm hospitality was an added bonus. We would advise anyone visiting Your part of the world to stay in the super setting you provide. Thank you!

“First class amenities and comfort with historical ambience”

Reviewed 16 Aug 2012

The view of this cottage is breathtaking and the service provided by Monica and Michael was so welcoming yet unintrusive. Everything we could have needed was provided. The cottage has been expertly renovated to provide every convenience yet without destroying the historical feel of the home.We had only booked a few days and were sorry we hadn't the time to stay longer to enjoy the comfort, the walks and the beautiful surrounding countryside. It was so peaceful not to have other holiday makers around, but we had any and all advice needed about what to do and where to go from our hosts.
