“A cottage on the edge of the Peak District”
Our family of 4 stayed here for 9 nights in late April. Ian's hospitality was great and there was a lovely welcome hamper to greet some very weary travellers who arrived late from Manchester airport after flying in from Australia. The cottage is well appointed, spacious clean, rustic and car parking was excellent. There were issues with water pressure whilst we were there which meant the ensuite shower didn't work and washing loads took much longer than usual to finish. However this seemed to be a problem with the water company. If you like the isolation of the countryside and getting away from all that towns provide like shops, pubs and entertainment then this is for you. Even the local pub was a bit of a dodgy walk down the road where there was no footpath in places. Blackrock Barn is a great place to stay for walks in the wilderness, relaxing and drinking wine in the evening.
Response from the owner Hi thanks for your kind comments about the Barn, The issue with the water was due to the mains water pressure. The water board came out the following week and were able to trace this back to the reservoir. I am happy to report this is now resolved and shower and washing machine functioning as normal
“Cosy home from home!”
We stayed here for Christmas 2013, whilst the weather was mixed the barn was a real cosy home. A lovely hamper was provided plus everything needed for the first morning breakfast! Lovely location and well equipped. High standard of furnishings and finishings.
“Great house, beautiful location, very nice hosts!”
It's an ideal place to discover this beautiful region. Whatever the direction, you will always find something to visit. It's quite close to Manchester and not very far from Liverpool and the beautiful sandy beaches further north. Within a day you can also go to North Wales or the Lake District. The house is perfectly provided and very well decorated. We straightaway felt like at home. Our 3 children also loved the barn. The hosts, Mariae and Ian, are very very nice and always ready to help in case you need something or if you have any question. They just want you to have a perfect stay! Thank you again for everything and for providing us a great welcome pack when we arrived late on Saturday evening! We really appreciated!
“Comfortable, peaceful and set in wonderful countryside”
The service was excellent - we were warmly received and shown around, and an extended 'check-out' was no problem. The barn was well equipped, with everything working and in order. It is set in some beautiful countryside with towns, pubs and main roads not too far away.
“Superb "home away from home"”
I stayed here with some friends for a long weekend. The Barn is lovely and cosy with excellent decor & has three lovely bedrooms, there was plenty of room for the 6 of us. The owners Ian and Marie were wonderful leaving us a welcome hamper and a bottle of bubbly which was fantastic. We also enjoyed a drink with them sat in their lovely garden(s). We went for a very long walk around the area and enjoyed a refreshing (well needed) beer in the local pub, where we also had a lovely meal. The whole weekend was fabulous from start to finish and I would recommend this barn to anyone, from couples, families and anyone just wanting to get away from it all.
I stayed at Blackrock in March this year, when we had the worst Winter in the UK for 50 years. It was so lovely to be there. Firstly, it's a complete "gem", exquisitely decorated, yet homey, very snug for those cold nights and just a lovely place to stay. Blackrock Barn is in Rainow right in the National Park, so, a few minutes to a very welcoming pub, with great food and local company and next door to some phenomenal walks. The countryside is beautiful. You are far enough away to feel like it's a complete break, but not too isolated or far from local amenities. Maria and Ian were very kind and helpful, nothing was too much trouble and they were perfect hosts. Highly recommend a stay here.
Spent 3 nights in mid-June as a base for my wedding which was taking place at adlington Hall, excellent location and high standard of fittings, etc in the barn. Three spacious rooms and good size living area, Ian and his wife really lovely and helpful! Overall couldn't recommend enough... Many thanks.
“A wonderful week in a beautiful place”
Ian and his wife, Maraie (probably spelt that wrong) were very welcoming and nothing was too much for them if we needed any help. They are a lovely couple. The Barn is a wonderful place to stay with lots of walks to go on straight from the door. It's only a few miles to Macclesfield and shopping. We took our granddaughter with us and our friends had their son with them. There is plenty of space in the garden for the kids to run around with a secure gate to keep them safe. We would definitely go again and have already recommended it to friends.
“A wonderful 'home away from home' for our family Christmas & New”
From our arrival to our departure Ian & Maerie were wonderful. Thank you for the lovely Xmas table decoration and bottle of 'bubbly' for our daughters 21st. These unexpected extras really made us feel very special. The barn renovation has been beautifully carried out, it was so warm, cosy and welcoming. It was lovely to be up in the countryside with sheep as our neighbours. I was thrilled that you had a decorated Xmas tree & a little Xmas village, these added details made it feel so 'homey'. The location is very accessible to Manchester airport, the Trafford Centre (if you like to shop), the city of Manchester and so many lovely villages/towns with very good restaurants and pubs. We really had a super 19 days and would definitely recommend to our friends & family.
“Weekend stay with friends and dog”
Stayed at Blackrock Barn in January for a long weekend with friends and dog. Hosts could not have been more helpful and friendly. The barn was warm ,cosy and well equipped. Village and pub within easy walking distance. Plenty of walks on the doorstep. We would recommend the Barn to anyone who would wish to discover the Peak District National park. Carole M
