“Wonderful Stay”

Reviewed 5 Jul 2013

Chez Simon is located in a small quite town. My husband and I had a wonderful stay (relaxing). Fyi, if you want to go wine tasting... make sure you go during the weekday. They are closed on the weekends. Our room was wonderful! A huge loft with a big bathroom, full kitchen (we cooked all our meals on Sunday), dinning table and 2 sofas. Everything looked new and was very clean (a plus). I was pleasantly surprised they had a washer and dryer. This was a nice plus. The gentleman who oversees the property was very nice and helpful. I would stay here again!

“cosy”

This apartment was cosy and was everything that showed in the pictures of internet. Close to some lovely sights such as a five minute walk to the Citadel and a short ferry ride to beautiful vineyards and chateaux.

“This apartment exceeded our expectations”

Reviewed 1 Jul 2013

The apartment was exactly as described on the excellent Chez Simon website and making a reservation turned out to be quite simple. After a brief exchange of emails in English, a deposit was paid using PayPal. The one bedroom apartment that we booked turned out to be very spacious, light and comfortable. Although it was located in the heart of the old village, inside it was ultra modern. Absolutely everything one could possibly want in a holiday house had been thought of and was provided. At all times, both in the village and within the apartment, we felt very secure. (A security code was required to access the building.) When we arrived we received a warm welcome from the apartment managers. During our stay they never imposed, but were always available to offer advice if needed. Before we arrived our one concern had been the security of the public parking, but this turned out not to be an issue.

“Home from home in a lovely setting.”

We have a house in france but wanted to visit the wine region of Bordeaux. A bit late in the year, it was already the last week in September. But still lovely and warm. We were able to sit out in the "Chez Simon" courtyard, with our Chateaux Blaye wine, and relax after a long hot day in the vineyards. We were lucky to find Chez Simon on line, available, and at a sensible rate. A studio flat in a delightful building conversion, in the center of a famous town, with Chateaux country close by. The perfect spot to be for visiting this great wine region. On an electric bike if you care to. Our host, Frank, the owner of Chez Simon was on site, visiting, and could not have been more helpful. As a wine importer himself, his knowledge of the area was extensive. The accommodation perfect for our needs, tastefully designed and spotlessly clean, with everything you would have at home to relax. The local hostelries were adequate for our needs, but as we didnt book were not able to get a table in the popular "Gavroche". The Blaye Citadel is amazing, hugely popular with tourists, in season. A wonderful back drop to our stay. We visited Bordeaux a lot, it is a fabulous city, and close to Blaye, although we did get lost once , badley, getting back, why I dont know. I blame the navigator. We catered at home when we were too tired to walk any further. No problem. Our visit gave us a great way to taste some of the greatest wines in the world, and visit wonderful Chateaux. Highly commended. Thank's Frank.

“Fabulously well equipped, stylish and comfortable apartment in a”

Reviewed 29 Sep 2012

Apartment number 1 at Chez Simon is a perfect place to spend some time exploring the Bordeaux area. We were there for a week and could happily have stayed for much longer. The apartment was extremely clean and very, very comfortable. Very stylishly furnished with a very well equipped kitchen - ideal for dealing with purchases from the Blaye market on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Our entire experience - from the booking process to our arrival and during our stay - was friendly, professional and efficient. We would not hesitate to recommend Chez Simon to anyone looking to spend some time exploring the wine region of Bordeaux, Bordeaux itself, the Medoc and the fabulous beaches around Cap Ferret and Carcans. All in all, a really great experience.

“good location & comfortable apartment”

Reviewed 6 Sep 2012

the location is very convenient - you can walk to anywhere in Blaye. The ferry to the left bank is next door. The apartment is very modern, comfortable and very well furnished/ spec'ed, you even get converter/ traveller plugs. You can walk to the vineyards or hire the e-bikes which are really cool and easy to get around in. The farmers market in Blaye is great - specially for seafood and is a 2 min walk from the apartment. Even the citadel (a big draw) is a minute away. The only downside was the street noise in the night.

“Home away from home!”

Reviewed 26 Aug 2012

I would highly recommend Chez Simon to anyone that is looking to stay in the heart of the Bordeaux winelands. You are right in the middle of the left and right bank with easy access to all the regions by way of ferry or car. The town is small and precious, and the people are incredibly friendly, even if you don't speak much (or any!) French. Be sure to spend at least one evening watching the sunset on the Gironde at the bank of the citadelle with some cheese (bought from the Saturday or Wednesday market) and a bottle of Bordeaux. We stayed in the apartment with the e-bikes- which were the perfect way to explore the left bank! They were incredibly fun and made the experience much richer then traveling by car. The apartment is the perfect size for 2 - we cooked most nights, but if you need more then 2 burners on the stovetop - opt for the bigger apartment - we managed however and still turned out some gourmet meals. The apartment is very new and cozy and onsite management is incredibly nice and helpful. I hope you have the chance to experience Bordeaux the way we did!

“A perfect French Retreat”

Reviewed 15 Aug 2012

Wow! What a fantastic apartment in a beautifully restored house, with stunning courtyard. It far exceeded our expectations, everything was catered for in the apartment and Mark (our host) was on hand to offer anything else we needed - like a fan for our baby's cot on a hot night. He also arranged a local wine tasting for us which was wonderful. Can't recommend it highly enough, not a bad word to say about it. Blaye was lovely too!

“Fantastic apartment, great location and lovely people!”

Reviewed 11 Aug 2012

We stayed at Chez Simon for two nights whilst passing through Blaye on a road trip of France. We booked last minute as we are very unorganised but we couldn't have been more lucky with the booking. The apartment building seemed pretty much brand new and the studio apartment we were in was immaculately clean and comfortable. Mark and Kerry made us feel so welcome and we hung out with them to watch some of the Olympics and have some banter. We also rented the e-bikes, which we highly recommend as they are a fantastic way to get around the wine regions nearby. We hopped on the ferry across the river and spent a day zooming around the margaux and haut medoc wine regions. The bikes have battery packs that lasted all day and propell the bikes to speeds of around 30kmh without any pedalling. Highly recommended. Also recommended is a visit to the Citadel, which is a 17th century fort built to stop those pesky English from invading Bordeaux. It is free to get in, has several decent restaurants inside and is absolutely amazing to walk around, with stunning views over the river, particularly at sunset. Overall we can't recommend Chez Simon highly enough. The only very minor worry we had was when booking we had to pay through PayPal and could not book through a booking website, so we're a little concerned, but this was of course completely unfounded as this was the best place we stayed in in France. Book away worry free!

“Wonderful self catering apartment in Blaye”

Reviewed 10 Aug 2012

We came across the apartment by chance on our travels across France and can't recommend it highly enough as a place to stay in the Bordeaux region. When booking the communications were timely and clear. Once inside the apartment block you find a beautifully restored old building, with first class finish. The apartment we stayed in was furnished to a high standard and had everything you needed, even down to bottle of milk in the fridge and tea and coffee. There was also a communal lounge with a wood burning fire, a laundry room, another kitchen and a lovely court yard - all available for use. All in all - a first class self catering place, giving great access to the wine regions and also the citadel in Blaye. We highly recommend it.
