“Exceptional way to experience the Big Island and Kona”

Reviewed 15 Oct 2012

While all of our friends stayed in Kona, amid the hustle and bustle, we stayed at Silver Oaks Ranch, and had a fantastic time. When we wanted to be downtown, it was just a few minutes drive, but when we wanted peace and quiet, the ranch gave us all the space we needed. Rather than being sandwiched in next to lots of other tourists, you're sitting on the back porch looking across kona onto the Pacific Ocean. Rick and amy are incredibly friendly and provide everything you'd need to be self-sufficient. The room was great, the kitchen was perfect, and all the little things (like snorkeling equipment, beach towels, etc) are there for you. We even had farm-fresh eggs and fruit from the ranch to make our breakfast. It's rare that I want to spend time with the host but we even asked them to join us for dinner one night and had a great time.

“This is truly an exceptional place to stay”

Reviewed 11 Jul 2012

Frommer's Hawaii simply said "Book this place” and how true that is. It is located just off Highway 190, overlooking Kona and the coast, thus providing good views of the coast, and often outstanding sunset views. It is 1500 feet above sea level, so that nights are comfortably cool. And yet it is only a 10-15 minute drive to ali'I Drive Our accommodation was excellent - we were in The Ranch House Cottage which had a full kitchen, separate sitting room and bedroom and walk in wardrobe. A daily breakfast is not provided, but there is a welcome basket containing a wide range of foods. Our cottage had a TV and DVD player, as well as a computer. There are very useful things available such as snorkelling equipment, and beach towels, and cool boxes, and laundry facilities. We were provided with a mobile phone, when it turned out we couldn't use ours in america amy and Rick are very helpful with advice on places to visit. It is very private: you are left to yourselves, but amy and Rick are readily available if needed. We have no hesitation in recommending Silver Oaks Ranch. We would definitely stay there again, should we visit Kona in the future.

“Don't Bring anything but a Swimsuit”

Reviewed 8 Jul 2012

And a toothbrush. Friends and I have stayed at Silver Oaks many times since my first visit in 2002, and I don't stay anywhere else anymore. Amy and Rick Decker are masters of warm hospitality because it comes from their hearts; that's why the place is so beautiful, comfortable and welcoming. I've stayed on all the Hawaiian Islands, and nothing comes close to Silver Oaks. At the 1300-foot level, four miles from the airport and four from town, this peaceful ranch is expansive, quiet, immaculate, cool, green, private, and roomy. And for all the amenities and personalized service, Silver Oaks is a bargain! Everything you need is here: Breakfast supplies with Kona coffee, pool and beach toys, beach chairs, towels, coolers, snorkels, fins, masks, reef booties, boogie boards, picnic baskets, bottled water and juices, free laundry facilities, CD and book libraries, and on and on, plus gorgeous birds and baby goats! Enjoy!
