“Beautiful location, wonderful hosts, amazing apartment.”
My daughter and I stayed at the beautiful Wharf House apartment and I have to say that I will not stay anywhere else when I return to Amsterdam. The apartment is even nicer than the photos show and was spotlessly clean. The rooms are large and bright and the little kitchen in a cupboard was more than adequate. There is a two burner stove, a microwave, fridge, sink, ample dishes and small conveniences, like salt and pepper and tea and coffee, that make a huge difference when you are travelling. If you have concerns about not being in the "heart" of Amsterdam, you should ignore them and stay here. The location is perfect. We appreciated coming back here at the end of the day and being far away from the noise and tourists. The canal behind the apartment is very quiet, unlike the canals in the centre of the city. Sitting on the dock with a glass of wine you would think you are miles away from the city but you aren't. We walked to the Jordaan, the Anne Frank House, the Noordermarkt and a number of other sites and restaurants with no problem. The tram and bus stops were only a short walk and took us anywhere we wanted to go. There are excellent restaurants nearby as well. Wooter and Liesbeth are wonderful hosts with excellent advice on sites and restaurants. They are happy to make reservations for you and provided maps and lots of information on the city. Do take the boat tour with Wooter it is much better than the commercial tours. They have three other properties on the Island and I got a chance to see one of them. It was spectacular and I'm sure the other two are as well. A beautiful location, an excellent apartment and friendly hosts made for a perfect trip.
The Wharfhouse was the perfect home away from home for our stay in amsterdam. Wouter and Liesbeth offered us a wealth of support and information including maps, a local phone, restaurant recommendations, and bikes to get around town. Wouter provided transportation to and from the airport for our convenience. Special touches like fresh flowers and champagne made us feel welcomed after our long flight. The unit was spacious and clean, architecturally beautiful, with quality construction and updated fixtures. It was located in the quiet "islands" neighborhood with many shops and restaurants and only a short walk to city center. There were also buses and trams just a few blocks away that we could catch to explore other parts of amsterdam. Loved the food at Bickers aan de werf! Our stay at the Wharfhouse was a magical seven days, and we look forward to our return. Dankjewel!
We were first time users of a nontraditional hotel on our trip to amsterdam. We were very fortunate that our first experience was at The Wharf House. Elisabeth and Wouter were wonderful hosts. The Wharf House was charming, on an island and canal in amsterdam. It was within walking distance to most places and the bus network took care of the rest. The accommodations were first class. Elisabeth and Wouter provided everything we needed and made our stay a more personal experience. Wouter was available to us at all times to answer any questions and requests we had. The boat ride on Wouter's boat gave us an intimate view of the city far greater than any other commercial ride. We fully recommend The Wharf House and Elisabeth and Wouter to anyone who want a charming stay in amsterdam.
We loved our stay at the Wharf House. It is roomy, comfortable, and impeccable. The apartment has everything you need--lots of towels, cooking supplies, washer/dryer, and bikes are available. Nicely designed, everything new, and a lovely view of the canal. Wouter and Liesbeth are friendly, wonderful hosts who anticipated our needs and offered to call a doctor for us when our son was sick. This is a great place for couples or families. It is located in a quiet area of amsterdam just a few minutes from the busier, citified section, and an easy bike ride or tram to all the museums and tourist spots. Our son is a teen, but i think it would also have been a great place to bring a younger child. The living/dining room has a few glass-topped tables, but I bet anything Wouter and Liesbeth would child-proof it (they have visits from their own, adorable grandchildren). There is a neighborhood park and wonderful petting zoo right across the small canal--just a few blocks walk. I highly recommend the personalized canal boat tour. Wouter wasn't able to take us but he arranged for his neighbor to give us a tour. It was a highlight of our trip, as they are able to take you to places that the big tourist boats can't go to and give personal insights to the city.
“Delightful and quiet amsterdam apartment”
The Wharfhouse was a wonderful place to stay in amsterdam. We spent five nights there in Spring and were delighted with our choice. It is located in an historical canal area in central amsterdam, and is only a few minutes walk from Central Station; in fact, it was so central that we walked almost everywhere that we wanted to go in the city. Yet it was very quiet. The property is two-storied and there is a spiral staircase to the upper level, which comprises the kitchen and a quite spacious living area that is bright and airy and lovely to come home to after a big day of sightseeing and exploring. The bedroom downstairs is of a good size and the bed very comfy, and similarly the other furniture and furnishings are of a very good quality. The hosts, Wouter and Liesbeth, are delightful people who it was a pleasure to know, and they could not have done more to make our stay comfortable and to provide us with everything we needed, including tourist advice and information, to make our stay in amsterdam a highlight of our European trip. As an aside, we took up Wouter's offer to have a personal canal cruise in his boat for a reasonable cost, and I would recommend that to everyone; not just because his small boat can access places that the larger boats cannot, but also because of Wouter's personal approach and Liesbeth's nicely-presented morning tea on board which was a bonus. I would highly recommend the Wharfhouse to people looking for comparatively well priced, comfortable and quiet self-contained accommodation in the heart of amsterdam.
“The best way to experience amsterdam”
Beautiful accommodation, lovely hosts and convenient location. The wharf house is an amazing experience, I had the best time there. The apartment is 2 storey, with a large bed on the first floor and a spacious living room on the 2nd floor (connected via a vintage looking staircase) - in the morning you get a lot of natural sunlight, which is my favourite part of the day. Location wise it is very near amsterdam Centraal station (10 mins walk) and it is relatively quiet but very safe which was what I wanted. There are a couple of cafes, grocery stores 5-8 mins walk, very convenient. The amenities were excellent, just like a service apartment but with personalized service (oven, ironing board, hair dryer). The hosts were very kind, they offered to loan me their bicycle during my stay there and drove me to the centraal station the day I left because of my heavy luggage (I bought alot of stroopwaffles!) Also within the apartment there are tons of maps, museum cards discounts etc that you can use, also they provide a local mobile phone just in case I needed to book restaurants/ call any lines locally - very thoughtful! Wifi worked consistently, no issues whatsover. I would recommend this location to anyone visiting amsterdam and looking for a quiet and accessible location with an apartment that could very well be your own home away from home! A big thank you to both Wouter and Lisbeth for being such wonderful hosts, I had such a wonderful time there!
“Fantastic find in amsterdam!”
Better than a hotel with small rooms and steep stairs - a luxury apartment just 15mins walk from the town centre overlooking two canals. Beautiful scenery, close to restaurants, cafes bars, shops - just perfect. We drove from the UK, phoned 15mins before arrival and Wouter was there to meet us and show us around the apartment. First impressions were wow! When making arrangements we started looking at hotels but were un-impressed, surfing around the internet we found the Harbour House and thought we would try it. This will be our mode of accommodation from now on - it was really great, lower in cost as none of the hotels offered b'fast in the price and we had breathtaking scenery and freedom to come and go as we wanted. Didn't touch the car during the trip. We could have stayed in a hotel which would have been closer, maybe. The 15mins walk was great for us as we wanted the exercise after all the extra eating and drinking!
“Amazing stay in amsterdam!”
The Wooden Wharf House apartment was one of our highlights in amsterdam. My family appreciated staying at a location that was less hotel and more "home," but still close enough to all of amsterdam's attractions. Wouter goes out of his way to ensure your stay is above and beyond your expectations. My family plans to return and will recommend the Wooden Wharf House apartment to all our friends and family when visiting amsterdam. Thank you!!!
“Could not have asked for anything more!”
The Wharfhouse all of our expectations for safe, quiet, beautifully furnished and perfectly located accommodation. We requested breakfast the first morning of our arrival and our hosts provided enough food to last three days! Bikes were available at our front door and we were able to arrange for a private boat tour of canals starting right from the Wharfhouse. Our friendly hosts were available at any time to provide recommendations or answer any questions.
