“A perfect family holiday.”
We enjoyed a perfect family holiday at Ty Louisette. A fantastic location for walking, cycling and spotting wildlife (we saw an otter and two kingfishers along the canal!). We cannot remember the last time we were so relaxed. The gite is spacious, comfortable and extremely well equipped. We cooked a full Christmas dinner (for New Year!) with all the trimmings. The children also enjoyed the swings and slide in the garden which looks ideal to play in on a sunny summers day. The family who own the gite are very friendly and extremely helpful with information about the local area - always available but never intrusive. We hope to return and are delighted to recommend Ty Louisette to others.
“Superbly decorated and equipped, perfect layout for extended family and mobility impaired guests”
This year we decided to rent a comfortable large home for Christmas instead of squeezing into one of our own (in France, UK, or USA). Having rented gites previously, we were expecting to be somewhat disappointed compared to posted photos. Ty Louisette was quite the opposite! It looks exactly like the photos except that it is even more spacious and comfortable than pictures can convey. Every thing you could possibly want in a gite was warmly provided, right down to a welcome bottle of milk on arrival, fresh flowers on the table, a Christmas present (!!), a tourist map of Pontivy, restaurant recommendations, and an organized book of manuals for the household electronics! The house layout thoughtfully places the lounge in the middle of the house with two wings on either end that contain bedrooms. Curtains in the corridors provide even more privacy between the two ends of the house. One wing has 2 bedrooms (with 2 single beds each, which can be pushed together if desired), and 1 single bedroom; this wing also has a split bathroom with bath and separate wetroom style shower which is helpful for anyone with mobility impairment. The other wing contains a double bedroom with ensuite bathroom, and the kitchen (which has 2 exterior patio doors at each end). Uniquely, all entrances to the house, front and rear terrace, and the large grassy garden are ramped for wheeled access. The best part of the house is the very large open layout kitchen with a long table, adjacent to the yard. At one end of the kitchen are double glass doors to the front patio picnic table; at the other day end of the kitchen are double glass doors to the rear deck, BBQ, and huge grassy play yard (fenced-in) with a climbing frame for kids. In this way the kitchen could be open air from both ends in the summer. Although the six of us were not traveling with children, I would imagine that Ty Louisette would be even more ideal for those with kids. We enjoyed walking along the canal path to the village bakery, dining in Pontivy and visiting the medieval walled section of Vannes. Even in winter, there were several museums open in the commutable area, which we discovered by leafing through the amazing binder assembled by Shirley for the guests. She and her family live across the street and were available for questions whenever needed.
“Luxuriously comfy base for exploring Normandy”
There are too many positive features of this gite to mention in one review. The location is fantastic, a quiet rural getaway right by the canal ready for pleasant strolls or bike rides (only a 30min ride to Pontivy where there is an attractive castle). Easy access to nearby village bakery, or a quick 8min car trip for full selection shopping in Pontivy. Its central location in Brittany made it great for us to explore the region (I.e. le Faou, Landevennec, Locronan, Pontivy, Rochefort-en-terre, Josselin, Pontrieux, Ploumanach, Point de Bihit, Carnac, St Goustan, Montcontour, and more). The gite itself is so nice, we'd love to come back just to spend more time "at home" in the gite. It is spacious, bright, spotless, comfortable, well-equipped and beautiful. It was really nice having everything on one floor and easy-access showers. The beds were luxuriously comfortable, and the showers luxuriously large with abundant hot water and great water pressure. The garden is large and has beautifully fragrant flower beds - the honeysuckle perfume was a particular treat. One of our party was particularly pleased to be able to follow the FIFA World Cup on TV too! We were very glad to have the benefit of Shirley's friendly, efficient advice - local knowledge is so valuable! We would not hesitate to recommend this gite to friends! Outstanding!
“Quiet rural gite perfect for my husband who is in a wheelchair.”
Everything was as lovely as the web information lead us to believe. Spotlessly clean. The owners had obviously worked hard to achieve this high standard. My husband who is an active wheelchair user was able to be fully independent here. We brought our own shower stood, but one is provided. The owner said she was able to rent other aids if needed. The kitchen is not adapted but it is very spacious and easy to use. We were lucky as the weather was warm and so we were able to take advantage of both terraces, one of which was full of wisteria in full bloom. The gite is in a rural setting, Pontivy has everything you need shopping and sightseeing. You do need a car though. We went to the south coast as far as Concarneau, and to the north coast, but each is a good hour drive. The area around the gite is lovely, plenty of walks and great for cycling. A lovely place to have a holiday! We have returned fully rested.
“First gite experience - just perfect”
We highly recommend staying at Ty Louisette. It is clear from the first moment that the well-being and comfort of their guests is very important to Shirley and her family. It was very handy having them next door as they were very attentive and accommodating to any need or question. The gite is outfitted with everything one might wish and is clean and modern. We found it situated very well to meet our desire to see as much of Brittany as possible. It also comes with fantastic weather! (Atleast for us it did!) A big thank you to Shirley and family for a wonderful visit! Hope to see you again!
“A very comfortable holiday home for my disabled sister”
I stayed for a week in September 2013 with my learning-disabled and epileptic sister and her carer. The gite was perfect for us as it has two separate bedroom areas (so if she woke during the night she didn't wake me) and is completely on the ground floor with no steps inside the house at all. We found it a very comfortable, tranquil holiday home and my sister was still asking to go back to it when we were almost home again. the owner lives just next door so was very easy to contact but never disturbed us. The gite is very well equipped and we found flowers and wine and milk waiting for us. We would certainly use it again if we returned to Brittany.
“Relaxing Family Holiday”
Ty Louisette is a lovely property in an idyllic rural setting. We have just returned after a small family reunion here spanning two generations - parents and adult children. The property itself was spacious, nicely decorated, immaculately clean, with a well equipped kitchen and very modern appliances. On our arrival, there was a well thought out welcome pack in the kitchen including two bottles of wine and fresh cut flowers. We enjoyed relaxing in the large secluded peaceful garden which has swings and slide for small children. There are two patios (front and rear) and BBQ. You do need to drive for shopping and sightseeing but there are supermarkets in the nearby town of Pontivy which is less than ten minutes away by car. Communication with the owner who lives nearby, was always quick, friendly, helpful and never intrusive.
“Magnifique gite pour une magnifique région”
Nos sommes venus en avril 2013 pour un weekend. Le gite est vraiment très agréable, très bien équipé et très joliment décoré. Et que dire de l'hospitalité de mme Mcc Cann ... Vraiment une très belle découverte que nous recommandons vivement pour tous ceux qui veulent visiter cette belle région de Bretagne ou tout simplement, comme nous, passer un super weekend entre amis. A découvrir absolument !!
Lovely gite and very well equipped. Decorated and furnished to a high standard with 2 terraces and a pretty, private garden. It was perfect for my disabled husband having no internal steps and the thoughtful owners placed portable grab rails in the shower and toilet. A raised bed was offered and this all added to a stress free week. The gite is perfectly placed for walks along the Nantes-Brest canal and we were pleased to find the towpath wheelchair accessible and flat and smooth enough for my husband to do short walks. There is so much to see in the area and, whether able bodied or disabled, Ty Louisette is ideal for a relaxing holiday in the lovely Brittany countryside. Thanks to the McCann family for providing the perfect gite.
“A beautiful, private gite in Central Brittany”
We spent two weeks in Ty Louisette in July/August 2012 with our 4 children aged between 4 and 14 years. The Gite was everything we could have hoped for and more- very clean, modern and well equipped. We appreciated the extra little touches such as toys and games for the children, fresh flowers, milk and wine on arrival. The McCann's were attentive hosts helping us with our bikes and providing us with plenty of information on the local area. The Gite is in a very quiet location, ideal to let children play on their bikes with very little passing traffic. We had a very active holiday- cycle rides up and down the canal to nearby villages. We cycled into Pontivy to the lido pool for a swim and visited the indoor pool in Loudeac on a wet day-both worth a visit. We went kayaking at the outdoor sports centre also near Loudeac and did a high ropes course 'Poisson Volant' near Lorient- this was ideal for all ages and worked a 'pay as you complete' course so you could do as much or as little as you like. We also enjoyed the beaches at Carnac, Guidel and Pouldu- all a good hours drive away but well worth it( be prepared to do quite a bit of driving to get the most out of the area). All in all a splendid holiday location and we would hope to return.
