Tropical Romantic Hideaway Cottage in Antigua

A secluded romantic hideaway, Driftwood Cottage is a beautiful Caribbean-styled, self-catering cottage with large verandah, surrounded by magnificently lush tropical gardens.

It is the perfect place to relax…a large pool is just a couple of steps from the verandah and the cut stone deck is spectacularly surrounded by palms and bougainvillea, orchids and lily ponds. The energetic can swim, the less-so inclined can just dip in every now and then as they retire to the loungers and soak up the sun.

The romantic exterior leads to the even more romantic interior, which boasts a wonderful 18th century four-poster king size bed, and high airy ceilings. The living area is uniquely decorated with lighting and accessories designed by a local potter. There is also cable T.V., a well-stocked library and an additional sofa bed. Voltage is 110.There is a charming bathroom, and fully fitted kitchen area with a BBQ grill by the pool. All linens and towels are included and there is an iron and a hairdryer if needed.

The fabulously large verandah is ideal for enjoying meals, sipping a rum-punch sundowner, or just relaxing in the hammock or loungers. Here you can gaze down at the tempting aquamarine pool, or just soak in the tropical surroundings – the sun shimmers and filters through the greenery, and hummingbirds and bananaquits dart around in their daily business.

Driftwood Cottage is situated on the north coast of Antigua. Five minutes from the airport and a 2-minute walk from Jabberwock Beach – the favourite beach of windsurfers and kite surfers. It is also 5 minutes from 4 excellent restaurants, Le Bistro,Tides, Cecelia's and Ocean Cafe. Boat trips and car hire can be arranged and St John’s and supermarkets are just minutes away.

It is an ideal base from which to explore Antigua, or just relax with a good book. Your hosts John and Sarah Fuller have a wealth of island knowledge; Sarah runs a fantastic little Pottery and shop in St. John’s and John, a famous lawyer on the island is also a history and ecology buff. Both are extremely helpful and eager to make sure your holiday is a memorable one.

Very Good

“Wonderful, relaxing cottage”

Reviewed 20 Nov 2013

We spent a wonderful week here at John and Sarah's cottage on the north coast of antigua, prior to a second week at one of the resorts (for a friend's wedding). The cottage was spacious and airy, with all necessary amenities. The pool was terrific to cool off in and relax. One of our favourite features was the large, wide covered veranda where we ate all our home cooked meals, and relaxed in the hammock. This was a great place to base for exploring the rest of the island and was close to many nice restaurants and only 15min from downtown St Johns. Sarah and John were terrific hosts and were more than happy to help out with any questions or advice, and the dogs were very friendly. A car is recommended as there is not too much within walking distance of the cottage. The only small negative were the mosquitoes in the evening, but that was easily overcome with some repellant and the bed's net worked great. We enjoyed this much more than the week at the all inclusive resort, and would definitely stay here again when we return to antigua.

“Beautiful private pool house perfect for two to relax and do the”

Reviewed 3 Nov 2013

We had a wonderful week in antigua staying away from the big hotels so that we could experience more of the island and all it has to offer. This is the perfect base for people who want to explore the island and all its beaches by day and relax pool side morning and evening surrounded by beautiful gardens and lots of wildlife. It allows a good mix of eating out when you want (especially the street food at lunch time!) and then bbq'ing at night. A highlight for us was the dogs who came to see you every morning and were fine tuned to hearing the fridge open! Sarah was super helpful and friendly and gave advise on places to eat and things to see. A brilliantly located but secluded simple little cottage, perfect for a romantic but adventurous holiday. We recommend a hire car!

“Lovely cottage in a peaceful neighborhood”

Reviewed 30 Oct 2013

I've been traveling to antigua for the past 6 years and this cottage is one of the most peaceful places I've stayed. The cottage is adjacent to Sarah and John's home and surrounded by a beautiful tropical garden. The property is in a safe residential neighborhood about 3 minutes from antigua's kite-surfing beach. Sarah and John are incredibly generous and kind and make you feel at home. It's a simple cottage that has everything you need - and if you need anything else (like a rental car or restaurant suggestion) Sarah is there to help. I've stayed here multiple times already and highly recommend it. It's absolutely my favorite place to stay in antigua.

“a very special place”

Reviewed 21 Jun 2012

I came to stay here on my own with my 2 children and it was the highlight of our 3 week tour of the Caribbean. The cottage is a little slice of paradise in the most beautiful, lush green setting. It is peaceful and luxurious and we felt totally at home. Sarah and John looked after us in every way possible and we felt very relaxed and safe. The dogs were an unexpected bonus - at first my son was very nervous of them but after the week stay totally overcame all his fear of dogs, and now wants us to get one the same of our own! The children loved the freedom of the cottage and the pool and although the main house is nearby we felt very private. There were lots of great books, games to play, info about the island, ideas of things to do that were very useful. Everything inside and outside the cottage was presented in a very comfortable and stylish way. The 4-poster king size bed was a real treat and the kitchen was well stocked and easy to use. The cottage had all the luxuries and mod cons you would need to feel at home. I cannot think of any negative points to say as the cottage was the highlight of our stay. I can only imagine how romantic it would be to stay there as a couple - maybe next time I will leave the kids at home!

“a piece of heaven”

we have been received like old friends, the cottage is very comfortable situated in a lush garden in front of a swimming pool. the nature is very present: birds , lizards and the friendly family dogs.the cottage is situated five minutes walk from jabberwock beach: natural beach , great for kitesurf. 15mn by car from st john for shops and market. you have also a lot of beaches around a great place to stay if you want calm

“Gorgeous hideaway”

Reviewed 15 Jun 2012

Stayed for 4 nights in March as part of our trip to antigua. We are independant travellers and wanted something different and quirky whilst being comfortable and this converted schoolhouse in a private tropical garden fitted the bill! The decor was stylish but casual and the open plan layout was fantastic. The artwork from Sarah around the house and garden was amazing and to be able to sleep with all the doors and windows open was magical. John and Sarah's dogs were so gorgeous and totally friendly and we spent warm evenings and early mornings in their company. Sarah was a fantastic host and let us use her pc for checking in to our flights which saved loads of time at the overcrowded disorgainised check in desk at the airport. The only minor niggle is the pool house is very close to the main house and if we could hear our host's conversations at times l am pretty sure they could hear ours! Not always great if you have romance in mind and on this island it is almost certainly inevitable!

“Great cottage & base to explore island”

Reviewed 10 Jun 2012

Very hard to improve on all the previous great comments. A lovely place to chill out or explore. We travelled around the Island a lot and enjoyed getting to see different places and the local way of life - if only very briefly. If you like sailing you can rent Hobie cats at Dickenson's Bay - might even see turtles swimming - as we did! Also checkout adventureantigua com We loved some gentle hikes, and seeking out some of the quieter bays - Half Moon bay is great - and enjoying snorkelling and sunshine in a relaxed setting.

“Paradise at it's Best!”

Reviewed 9 Jun 2012

Sarah, and John are wonderful, and very informative hosts. The cottage is lovely, and the grounds are lush and tropical! Close to the airport, and shopping. Best spot on the Island to relax, and unwind, there is a lovely beach just a short walk or drive from the grounds that is one of the best Kite boarding/windsurfing spots in the world, and great for swimming, and sunbathing.

“Lovely comfortable island experience”

Amazing owners who live next door with their beloved dogs! We spent our time enjoying the pool, beautiful tropical gardens, the traditional cottage perfectly equipped, the peace and quiet, great advice from our hosts, and their genuine sincerity. A unique property that we highly recommend! And it looks exactly like the advertised photos - beautiful, secluded, fun... A real gem on antigua.
