“Apple Blossom and a Dawn Chorus”

Reviewed 20 Apr 2015

It was our second stay at Hawthorn Farm Cottages staying again in the delightful Friars cottage. We had all the facilities we needed, what we like was how spacious and clean it was. Hot water on demand and a cooker for those cooks, even a microwave if required. The bathroom is spacious very clean, and comers with a power shower, again hot water does not run out. In to the lounge you have a large tv with dvd player and clock radio, to the back of the sofas a dining table and chairs with plenty of space for a family of four. Two bedrooms, one with 2 single beds and the other a double, comfy double, the single beds we had no need to use. The cottage is surrounded by beautiful orchards all around us, just starting to go in to full bloom, apples, plums to pears. The views are far towards the river stour and beyond. Walk down the path left of the driveway you head towards the Stour, a lovely river for an evening stroll. Driving into the cottage you come to a pond on the left with beautifully coloured fish and a waterfall. A little further down the drive are the cottages with plenty of parking which goes with the stunning designed garden not tarmac but lovely pea shingle. Further to the right behind the cottages are the lovely ladies clucking away and want to talk to you, hens who talk, well they are very friendly. then two stunning donkeys will amuse you and the young ones. Plenty of farm shops within driving distance and some farms selling free range eggs, better than any supermarket. Canterbury is great for shopping, use the park and ride, it's cheap and buses are regular. For excellent food try the Goods Shed at West Canterbury Station, a must for all cheese, meat and cake lovers. Or Gibsons Farm Shop on the outskirts of Wingham a lovely warm chocolate brownie and ice cream is a must. Steve and Doreen made us very welcome, yet did not impose on us. We only needed to knock if we required anything from them. If you like dogs Fly the most beautiful border collie resides with Steve and Doreen, she even takes you for a walk, and will show you how to throw sticks for her to retrieve. She will have you trained, just by the way she looks at you. So well behaved and the best natured friend anyone could want. It was a lovely short stay, and hopefully more to come.

“Hawthorn Farm Cottages: Friars Cottage wonderful accommodation”

Reviewed 16 Sep 2014

My wife and I both enjoyed our stay immensely; it was a welcome break from work. The detached cottage was the perfect accommodation which is set in the rural area of Kent close to Canterbury, Ramsgate and Dover to name but a few easy to reach areas. The owners Steve and Doreen made us feel welcome from our initial inquiry, met us on arrival and provided excellent hospitality during our stay.

“A perfectly peaceful place to step away from the busy world”

If you want to relax visit Hawthorn Farm Cottages, they are are simply fantastic! Set within beautiful grounds the cottages are well equipped and cosy. The owners simply can't do enough to help. Our group ranged in age from ten years to seventy and everybody had the most wonderful time. Can I recommend it.... well my daughter sobbed for half an hour on leaving because she loved the holiday so much, I think that says it all. We're already planning our next visit. In regards to the local area, there is something for every age, budget and interest. We had beach days in Whitstable and Broadstairs. Long country walks from the cottage itself. Visits to Deal and Walmer castles, and fun in the wave machine at the local indoor pool. During a previous short break we also had a day trip to France and and an explore of Canterbury. There are endless opportunities within only 30 mins of the cottage door.

“Christmas stay at Friars Cottage.”

Reviewed 1 Jan 2014

We enjoyed our stay at Friars Cottage good value for the money. The cottage is nicely decorated and found it lovely and warm and cosy. Had all the equipment we needed including the washing machine. Set in nice countryside surroundings, we came to stay in the Winter but would imagine it would look different again in the Summer.

“Peaceful Retreat”

Reviewed 8 Nov 2012

We have returned many times to Hawthorn Farm and this was our second time in Friars Cottage. Its set in beautiful surroundings and then again by orchards and lovely countryside for lovely walks. Friars Cottage offers you all you will need in the way of home comfort. It has two double size bedrooms one with two single beds. All bed linen included. The kitchen has its own washer/dryer, fridge freezer, microwave and electric cooker and everything you could need. The living/dining room is quite comfortable with tv/dvd player, radio/cd player, 2 two seater settees and has its own book case. The bathroom is beautifully tiled and towels are included. Our 13 year old small terrier loves it there and knows the regular routine there now.The rest of the family are now making Hawthorn Farm their get away too. Steve and Doreen are a very warm and friendly couple and are easily approachable if the need arises.

“Friendly, comfortable and a beautiful location”

Reviewed 31 Oct 2012

Once a year we go to Kent with a group of people with a disability. After a long journey, with the boat and the car, it's always nice that the owners of your accommodation are waiting for you when you arrive. So when we arrived, they immediately came to our cars to great us and show us around. It was a warm welcome. There are four different houses. There's one bigger than the others, but they are all comfortable. In one house, the biggest one, you have enough space for people who have a wheelchair. Which was necessary for our group. The location is very beautiful. Even when it's cold, the donkeys and the very energetic dog give you the warmth you need. It's also very peaceful out there. There's a tearoom in the area, but if you want to go to a shop or to the city, you'll need a car. The houses are always very clean and you have a good amount of space in the rooms. The bathroom isn't luxurious, but it's good enough. The bathroom in the biggest house is adapted to people in a wheelchair. In general it's a good accommodation, it's a peaceful place and the owners are friendly people. I would recommended it.

“Very nice and peaceful”

Reviewed 23 Oct 2012

This was our second stay at Hawthorn Farm and that says it all really. Doreen and Steve made us very welcome in their usual calm and friendly way. The cottage was perfect for our needs (2 adults and 2 dogs) and is located in a quiet lane near the village of ash. Lots of walks on the doorstep and the lovely areas of Sandwich, Ramsgate and Deal all within easy reach. The facilities at the farm cater for all age groups and we are trying to plan a holiday there with our children and grandchildren. Lots of space for the little ones to tire themselves and bbq facilities for those lovely summer evenings. We would recommend Hawthorn Farm to anyone who wants a nice rural holiday and still be in easy reach of the Kent coast and countryside.
