“Best trip to Bonaire so far”

Reviewed 10 Aug 2014

My biggest hesitation about writing a review about this property is that it will become too popular and I won't be able to book when I want to go! I just returned from my 7th trip to Bonaire and this was the best yet. We booked 2 weeks which seemed like the perfect amount of time to really unwind and get in plenty of diving (our group did 48 dives these 2 weeks). From my first encounter with Lamber, communication and service have been excellent. He scheduled time to show me the place on my previous trip to the island. I was scouting out a place for our extended family (7 total) that would suit our group. Once I had the ok from the rest of the group, Lamber was quick to provide invoices and arrange for trucks and the diving with Dive Friends Bonaire. Booking the trucks and diving through Lamber rather than directly got us a significant discount with each. When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised to see the refrigerator stocked with starter foods (cheese, meats, milk, etc). There was also a supply of dish detergent, toilet paper, paper towel, etc. All little things that are necessary but that one would not want to have to carry down with them nor run out to buy immediately. Lamber also provides a cell phone which is handy for local calls. In terms of the property, what really set it apart from any other place we've stayed is the attention to detail. The back yard is fantastically landscaped. The table by the sea is shaded by an arboretum with a grape vine and palms that create essentially an outdoor room by the water. This is where we ate all of our evening meals. We took advantage of the seaside grill as well. One note about the grill is that lighting the charcoal can be quite a struggle. We tried various methods and found that starting with a few match light briquettes and augmenting the lump natural charcoal works the best. In our 2 weeks on the island we ate all but 3 of our meals at the villa. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking. The villa is well set up for divers, the side area works well for rinsing and drying gear and the gear can be stored in locked lockers once dry. We used a bucket that Lamber provided as well to rinse our computers, cameras etc between dives. We filled half way with water and put in the back of the truck each day. I also would recommend bringing 2 liter bottles to rinse off the salt between dives. These heat up nicely between dives if left in the bed of the truck. The adjacent operator - Dive Friends Bonaire is also run very well. Compared to Buddy Dive which provided nitrox for most of our previous trips, Dive Friends maintains their tanks much better (ex. O-rings) and the fills were consistently 31-32% and usually 3200-3500 PSI. Their staff is quite friendly and accommodating as well. In terms of what I liked least, the security situation on Bonaire dictates an abundance of caution with regard to property. (Violent crime is fortunately still rare on Bonaire.) My wife and I stayed in Tortuga which required getting through the locked front door, locked side door then locked room door to enter. It feels a bit like Fort Knox just to get into our room; but I am afraid this is what is needed on Bonaire to prevent theft. Speaking of this, there are safes in each bedroom which I used to store labtop, passports and cash while we were out of the house. I would recommend this as well; we didn't come up with an ideal solution though as to where to store all the keys when we left. Usually they would reside on the outside of the room door which obviously did not accomplish much in terms of securing the belongings inside the safe. We have already booked our stay for next summer, sadly just one week this time and are thinking about another 2 weeks stay in 2 years.

“no hassle scuba”

Reviewed 16 Jun 2014

we stayed here with another family in June for our first time on Bonaire. We absolutely loved it! We dove at "the Cliff" right off the back yard multiple times. It was wonderful to be able to dive without even needing to leave the villa! Snorkeling here was excellent too.The set up is perfect for divers. Dive Friends was SO close and convenient. Lamber was such a kind person and so helpful with anything we needed. He was always very prompt with email communication prior to the trip and set up our reservations for a truck and for dive needs. We feel like we happened upon the best place and the best person on Bonaire!

“Dream dive vacation rental”

Reviewed 30 Apr 2014

Have you dreamed of place where you could leave everything behind and experience the moment. Sunset Villa in Bonaire is that place. Oceanfront with immediate access to the Cliff diving site (just walk down the stairs), a place to hang your diving gear, plenty of spots to relax with friends makes this a top notch rental at an affordable group price. The kitchen has everything. Each bedroom is air-conditioned, and everything works. More importantly, your hosts Lamber and Jacqueline are the best. They will assist with everything, from recommending the best restaurants, to suggesting dive sites, to purchasing food for your first night there. Don't stay just one week, stay longer. Dynamite place.

“Wonderful House and vacation!”

Reviewed 1 Apr 2014

My family of four and another family of three stayed here over Spring Break and had an amazing week. The house is wonderful - every room. It is very clean, roomy, and a great place to spend a week. We spent a lot of time out back where the ocean breezes never stopped. I don't think we turned a single TV on the whole week. Snorkelling was great right off the back stairs! Lamber took care of our dive tanks and car rental. He had snacks and drinks waiting for us when we arrived. He drove us to the car rental to pick up our trucks. The house is in a great location - easily accessible to anywhere on the island. We will definitely be back to this house as soon as we can! It truly was one of the most relaxing vacations we have ever had!

“Perfect Paradise”

Reviewed 4 Feb 2014

Wow! I cannot say enought about this villa, the host/owner(Lamber), or the location. A group of us go to Bonaire every other year, and this was our first time at Sunset Villa. Needless to say we will never stay anywhere provided it's not already booked . .The house was amazing, we had 9 guests each. The 5 bedrooms (each with it's own bath, mini fridge and t.v.) provided a great escape if needed but the remainder of the house and grounds was where most of us hung out. The kitchen and living area is open and large and more than accomodated the 9 of us. Plenty of seating in and outside the condo. The dive set-up was great (rinse tanks, secure lockers, bench, drying area). Plus the dive site right off the back porch was very good and so conveneient. Lamber was so gracious and accommodating, he took care of our rental car and diving arrangement, providing us discounts on both. He left a cell phone for us to call or he would occassionally stop by to make sure all our needs were met. When we found out that our flights had completely change, and we were arrving in a day early, he found us great accommodations right next to the property. We definitely won't stay any other place if this place is available. Thank you Lamber and Sunset Villa for a wonderful trip!

“Definitely a great place to stay when in Bonaire”

Reviewed 27 Jan 2014

Lamber is a great and gracious host and as said by Cory Rose, he took care of everything in advance. We also did a boat dive on the wild side and we were missing two tanks to complete our dives.Lamber called the owners and they had the tanks we needed when we arrive at the boat. The house is large and spacious and Lamber showed us around the house and property. It was also a great surprise that even though we were from from Seattle, the TV had the big playoff game on for us to watch. Go Seahawks!!! There is a very nice area for you to gear up for a dive on the house reef. With also storage lockers and two good sized rinse tanks. I would definitely recommend staying here if your going in a large group. The Dive Friends dive shop is an easy walk. There is also free internet for you tech people who just cannot unhook yourself.

“Excellent Villa. This is the place to stay in Bonaire!!!”

Reviewed 27 Jan 2014

All I can say is ... Wow. This is an amazing villa, right on the water with an amazing cliff dive literally out your back door. The dive shop is 100 yards away with unlimited tanks and all the nitrox you can breath. The owner of the Villa, Lamber, is one of the nicest folks you will ever meet. Lamber took care of everything in advance for us. He booked all of our diving, including tank rentals, boat dives, everything we needed. He arranged all of our truck rentals in advance and had a shuttle waiting at the airport for us. By booking through Lamber, we were assured the best deals on the island. The rental company came to the villa and brought the vehicles to us. When we arrived, Lamber had the fridge stocked for us including ice cold beverages and sandwiches for us! He came by several times just to check on us and see if we had any questions or concerns. What a great guy. I cannot say enough good things about Lamber or the operation that he runs. The villa was spotless and a pure please to stay at. Incredible views from every room. A well stocked BBQ overlooking the ocean. If we ever go back to Bonaire, we would not consider staying anywhere else but at the Sunset Villa. I highly recommend Lamber and the Sunset villa. 5 stars!!!

“Family Getaway”

Reviewed 9 Jan 2014

My family decided this year to spend a week in Bonaire over New Years. Only problem, we needed a place on the water, with a kitchen, that sleeps 10. We found that at the Bonaire Sunset Villa. We arrived at dawn and were met by people at the airport that drove us all to the villa. There we met our host Lamber. Lamber kindly showed us around and expalined that the cars we rented through him would be in our driveways by 9. Couldn't have been easier. We were planning a shopping run at 9 but were pleasantly surprised to find a refrigerator stocked with all of the essential for a hearty breakfast and then some. That made everyone smile after a long flight. We have stayed at a number of places over the last 10 years, but know of no accommodation that was as well equipped to handle our needs. I would highly recommend this property

“Excellent stay !”

Reviewed 26 Nov 2013

We stayed in Sunset Villa for a week in november 2013. Our plane arrived late in the evening so it was very practical that the owner Lamber had sent his driver to pick us up at the airport. He gave us all the good addresses for wining, dining and groceries. He and his wife were very helpful and they did everything to make our stay easier. We enjoyed the sunsets from the porch, the kitchen is fully equipped and the rooms are as decribed. We especially came to Bonaire for the diving spots. The villa is well equipped for divers to clean and store their gear. The villa is not located in the center of Kralendijk but there is a supermarket nearby (100mtr) and several restaurants in the neigbourhood. The location for swimming, snorkeling and diving is superb. It is also very convenient that you can use the swimming pool in the Hamlet Resort nearby. Nothing but good things to tell about this location and this rental. Should we visit Bonaire again, we would certainly stay at the Sunset Villa.

“Ideal Vacation Home”

Reviewed 9 Sep 2013

This is my third trip to Bonaire (first time staying at the Villa) and my friends and I are already planning to book this home again next year. The location is ideal and the views are spectacular. Just walk down the steps and start diving or swim under the stars. Great for a group of friends and/or mix of friends and couples, lots of space, big kitchen, great a/C in all bedrooms, each bedroom has its own bathroom and plenty of hot water. The Owner is very attentive and thoughtful, down to chilled beer, wine and snacks stocked in the kitchen when we arrived and making sure we had every need attended to during our stay.
