“Finally Found Our Home Away From Home”

Reviewed 12 Oct 2014

My husband and I have started a tradition of going to Kauai every year for our anniversary. We found this house the summer of 2013, but sadly it was booked solid. We knew that we would have to book it early in order to get it the summer of 2014. Thankfully, we got to it enough in advance and booked our stay in the Moon Suite. We should warn you that this particular trip was a little unique and unusual due to the fact that we were to face 2 potential hurricanes during our visit. We took all precautions necessary when landing. We rented a 4x4 Jeep Wrangler and went directly to Costco and stocked up on batteries, flashlights, non-perishable food, and plenty of fluids. After, we gassed up and headed up to the North Shore to our Rainforest Haven. As soon as we arrived, we were taken back by the natural beauty that surrounds this home - not to mention the beauty of the home itself! Pictures cannot do it justice! Are parking was covered and the signs were easy to read. The Moon Suite is exceptionally big - that of a nice 1-bedroom apartment. Now, can we talk about the HUGE lanai for a moment!? There is nothing more serene than this! The suite has everything you need! We almost didn't need to have any food because the cabinets had food in them for us to have. If you need to be "connected" to the world through the internet, they have plug-in available! It's better than wifi when you are out there because it reduces spotty connections (we know because the last place we stayed had wife and we almost never got a good signal). Living below us was the owner, Ray, who is one of the friendliest, down-to-earth people you can meet! He calmed our nerves about the "H word" (hurricanes). He gave us great tips for where to go around the island. He made sure we had everything we needed to accommodate our stay! On some nights, we would just go down to talk to him for good company - very nice man. Any downsides? Well, there was a bit of an ant problem while we were there, but Ray was out and about working on how to get it under control. It wasn't so much of a problem that it interfered with our great experience there - no deal breakers or anything! It's in the middle of nature, so I am fully aware that things like this can happen out there. Oh, and one other downside, again, nothing huge - we had to send a check instead of paying it all online. There are many reasons I don't like this...potential of losing checks, payments not being received on-time, no time for getting a stamp to send mail, no electronic receipt... Luckily, we did not run into any problems with payment. In the end, we never wanted to leave. We told Ray that we need to black out the dates of our anniversaries to come so that we can always stay here. Honestly, we really did feel like our home away from home! We can't wait to go back!

“Fantastic condo, incredible view”

Reviewed 23 Oct 2012

This place is absolutely fantastic. Located up on the North end of Kauai, it's a few minutes from Hanalei in one direction and the Na Pali coast in the other. When you walk into the suite you're faced with this enormous curved lanai with incredible views of the Northern mountains. It's quite breathtaking. The suite is enormous, and the grounds are wonderfully quiet and peaceful. We stayed there for a few days mid October, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and came home again completely relaxed. We wanted a self-catering apartment, because we wanted to sample the farmers markets and cook for ourselves, so it was important that the kitchen was fully stocked. There are fantastic beaches very close by (including the awesome tunnels beach) and you can borrow their beach equipment (snorkels, boogie boards etc.) too. All in all a great place to stay.
