“Exceptionally large,beautiful,comfortable, well located & a VIEW!"”
My husband and I travelled for a month in Europe booking rentals for most of our stays. We are adventurers at heart so we made the best of it without complaint. We arrived in Avignon to find our sweet hostess waving to us from the balcony as we departed our taxi. Took the lift up to our beautiful large, modern apartment complete with a lovely bottle of wine chilling in the fridge! What a difference! Every room in this wonderful apartment is spacious and bright due to the multitude of large windows and french doors, some leading out onto a nice wrap around patio which tops the building. This makes for fabulous morning coffee, or an evening glass or two of wine at a small table and chair set outside looking down on the world. The apartment is well equipped with anything you need including a working wash machine and laundry line. With the breezes up there, laundry dries in a very short time. There are plenty of electrical outlets for charging the various devices we all carry with us these days. There is no need to visit the Tourism Bureau because the Martins have a shelving unit with every conceivable brochure available in the area right there for you! Tours, restaurants, taxis, buses, coupons, It's all there. The bedroom is as comfortable as it is large and inviting. with a wall of windows that have an automatic shade system to close out light you can nap midday if you like with no disturbance. The bed is perfect. We slept well each night. The location is perfect too! You will be steps from Les Halles, the freshest, most fun green grocer, florist, fish market, butcher, wine shop, bakery, spice center, etc you have ever experienced! A must for your first day! Oh yes! and it's also a parking garage disguised by greenery! The Palais des Papes is a few short blocks away. Short walk to great shopping. Easy transportation to anywhere in Provence. Best of all are the lovely Martins themselves! They are kind and generous people who made our stay so much better just by being so warm and inviting toward us. We needed special consideration on the last day with regard to our luggage and train reservations and they could not have been nicer in assisting us. Of all the places we rented in our month in Europe, this one lived up to it's word and more. I would rent there again in a heartbeat! I recommend you rent there if you are going to Avignon or the area. You will not be disappointed.
“Special place for many memories made”
We were fortunate enough to spend a week in this charming apartment. The landlords were very welcoming and helpful. Most enjoyed our evening wine on the balcony overlooking the city. Warm croissants were available from the Les Halles every morning to complete that first cup of coffee. Le Petit Gourmand became our favorite restaurant after the first visit. Worth trying.
“calm and peaceful”
This is a lovely flat in an ideal location right in the centre of historical avignon. The balcony looks out over the roofs, and it was good to find an apartment that was high up and had an elevator. The apartment coped well with the heat via awnings, shutters, and air-con. There were sounds, but mostly wonderful ones - especially the bells - and it wasn't noisy by any means. The kitchen is well-appointed, the living area peaceful and the bedroom very pleasant (comfy bed and cool space). Little touches such as an airer and pegs for clothes on the balcony were much appreciated. We were very well looked after by Noelle and Julie, in the absence of the owners. As we travelled by the popular direct eurostar from the UK (so no car packed with basics) and arrived on a saturday afternoon we would have appreciated a welcome tray - coffee, milk, biscuits (even at extra cost) - but this is a suggestion, it was easy enough to find an open supermarket. For the rest of the week shopping was simple, and indeed a pleasure. There are also many excellent places to eat out. We would definitely stay again, and look forward to it.
“A gorgeous place to stay in avignon”
I have just spent 11 days in this comfortable, spacous apartment on the 5th floor looking out on the rooftops of avignon. It is freshly redecorated and well located near the markets and pedestrian shopping area, close to everything but a little away from the busy and noisy main square. The owners are charming and I would stay there again if I return to avignon.
“Very roomy, clean, centrally-located apartment in a quiet area”
Friendly hosts who live on site, one of whom speaks some English. Large rooms with plenty of windows and glass doors leading to a narrow balcony which raps around two sides of the apartment. Fifth floor views over the Synagogue and roof tops. Quiet location near the pedistrian-only shopping streets. A few minutes walk to the main square in one direction and to Les Halles indoor market in another. Lots of corner shops selling bread, pastries and food which can be heated. There are also at least three supermarkets nearby. If you get the chance try au Tout Petit restaurant near Les Halles for a two-course plate of the day for 12 euro. Also heat across the river (the two branches of the Rhone) to Villeneuve lez avignon if you want a quiet, more natural Provençal experience without loads of tourists and shopping development. Some nice cafes on pleasant squares, palaces the cardinals built during the 14th (?) century which the popes were based in avignon. The tourist office has brochures on this and the Fort which overlooks the township. Take the number 5 bus or walk for 45 minutes.
“What a find!”
This apartment is on the fifth floor of the building but the lift makes it easy. It's right in the heart of the walled city and makes all the attractions within easy walking distance. The owners live directly beneath and are very welcoming and helpful. The accommodation itself is very bright and airy. Very well equipped and spotlessly clean. The kitchen has everything you could want apart from a couple of mugs. It was a wonderful place to come back to after a busy day out. The market hall and the little supermarket are literally with a very short walk of your doorstep. Highly recommend and will return again.
“A superb apartment in a great location”
This gem of an apartment fully lived up to its reviews - it was lovely. The owners were extremely helpful and pleasant, but were not intrusive in any way. We stayed in the apartment for 6 days, which we found to be enough to visit most of the attractions of avignon and managed to fit in a couple of train trips to nearby towns. All of the equipment provided was in good condition (and worked!)and was well suited to our needs. Les Halles (the indoor gourmand market) is just a few minutes away and provides a selection of excellent local produce, which makes dining in the apartment delightfully easy and rewarding. The only downside that we found was that avignon seems to have more than its fair share of homeless / street people which can be a little intimidating when they are in groups. However we soon learned the places to avoid and it did not lessen our enjoyment of the apartment. We tend not to revisit towns as there are so many others to explore, however if we did return to avignon we would definitely seek out this little gem again.
“Just what we wanted!”
We stayed in this delightful flat for six weeks and it was perfect for our needs. M and Mme Martin were most welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. The fantastic central location meant we didn't need a car, especially as there were buses and trains to all the places of interest near avignon. The flat made a huge contribution to our enjoyment; it was comfortable, spotless and great just to relax in between excursions.
“a wonderful apartment in a fantastic location!”
What a lovely place in the heart of avignon! It's right on top of a big square, but not the biggest. This is good. The big one is too busy and loud and this one has Les Halles, the best market in the city, at your beck and call for all the hours it's open. You'll visit a lot! Beautiful balcony surrounds two sides of this 5th floor flat, superb air-conditioning inside and a great kitchen, lovely living room and wonderful bedroom and bathroom. With just two of us there, we had plenty of extra room to spread out, put ourselves and our things, and all the privacy we could want. Just a wonderful spot. I want to go back!
“Fantastic location and fabulous apartment”
Our family stayed at this flat for a week during the festival in July 2012. The flat itself is very large and the location is in the heart of the old city with everything at your door. The flat has a lift, air conditioning and all the amenities needed for a great stay. Our contact Julie was exceptionally helpful prior to and during our stay even assisting us with securing our new credit cards that were lost. Noelle and Louis were also extremely welcoming upon our arrival and during our stay if we ever needed anything. The festival is very vibrant and loud however the apartment although in the centre was like an "oasis" with no noise and cool after the very hot weather we encountered. The flat is picturesque and there are many small features that combined to make it a great stay. Avignon itself was a beautiful city and the excitement of the festival made it all the more fantastic. There are numerous small villages and sites around avignon to visit.
