“Serenity, Peace & What A View!”
Just returned home to the US after a week long stay in this beautiful home. Pictures are representative of what you will see once you walk into this calming oasis. Everything you will need for a lovely stay. Clean, well appointed home. Owners are kind and available if needed. Safe and secure feeling while staying here as you need a remote to open a gate to enter the property. A few other homes nearby but the home is so well situated that you feel as though you are all alone for miles and miles. The view from the home is breathtaking. Didn't want to leave! Tastefully decorated with neutral tones...calming and peaceful vibe. We loved our time staying in this gorgeous home. Thank you!
“Iceland and the perfect stay at Dynjandi Riverfront”
The modern, clean and spacious cottage lies in a wonderful and peaceful surrounding. It is well equipped and we enjoyed the comfort very much. A hottub and a big BBQ outside made cooking and relaxing very pleasurable. The golden circle and its must sees are easy to reach from the location. Returning from a trip back to this cottage was feeling like coming home.
Response from the owner Thank you so much for your great feedback following your recent stay with us. As you mentioned the location is great, we truly know how much that means for our visitors. Location, location, location you are at the right spot when visiting south Iceland and for day-trips to the west. Our aim is to provide a relaxing “home from home” experience so again I was happy to read that we met your expectations. Once again thank your for your wonderful review and we look forward to welcoming back to your 'Home away from Home' again soon. Kind regards, Sigridur
“Fabulous base for our Iceland vacation”
My husband and I just returned from a terrific two week stay with another couple in the riverfront cottage at Dynjandi. We rented the guest cottage as well as the main house, because we wanted the privacy of a second bathroom and more distance between the bedrooms. Although the bedrooms in the main house are small, we did not feel cramped because of the spaciousness of the common rooms and the expansive views from most of the windows. The setting is spectacular. We were content to spend hours on the deck or in the living room, gazing out at the bend in the river, the meadows, the sky and the occasional visitors to the river bank: a pair of whooper swans with their two cygnets, a quartet of sheep, a fisherman or two wading in the current. The house is well-equipped for a comfortable stay with a modern kitchen and laundry. My husband, who is an architecture buff, enjoyed walking along the road and admiring the architecture of the other homes in the neighborhood, each with its own large lot. I finally found the path that runs along the river and got a closer, more dramatic view of the river’s rapids. The house materials were very helpful to us in finding and choosing restaurants in the area, including lunch in a state-of-the art tomato greenhouse and dinner upstairs and overlooking a milking barn (through glass panes). It was well-situated for day trips to all the Golden Circle attractions as well as longer forays along the southern coast. Jokulsarlon was too far away (for us) for a day trip. We stayed overnight at the excellent Hali Country Hotel there so we could take our time seeing everything along the way, including the waterfall at Seljalandsfoss, lunch in Vic and the folk museum at Skogar. That gave us the luxury of time to take the amphibious boat tour of the glacial lagoon and a visit to the lagoon’s outlet a short distance down the road where the smaller icebergs were whisked briskly out to sea or stranded on the sand beach. Dynjandi was a fabulous base for our vacation in Iceland.
“The joys of Dynjandi”
As a boon to Ausländer, “Dynjandi” is one of the easier words in Icelandic to pronounce (“Ég tala ekki íslensku”). The “cottage” (actually two units — a main house and a smaller guest bungalow), looks out over broad decks onto a verdant field and a forked river containing an island visited by humane fishermen (despite willing fish, they never seem to catch anything), and a mostly unbroken horizon with only a few houses off the main sight lines. The serenity is otherworldly. Far from the main road, the only sounds which intrude are the murmurings of the water and an occasional not-so-angry bird. Stay up past your bedtime to enjoy a glorious sunset, and moments thereafter a spectacular sunrise. Get no sleep. Stay warm. Geothermic heat beneath the floorboards subtly and silently maintains a comfortable temperature. The hot tub, refreshed daily from the same inexhaustible hot water, restores to the body what the atmosphere extracts. Sulfur adds a rare bouquet. Sigríður and Arni provide an elegantly equipped kitchen and lovely decor (despite a less-than-flattering portrait of Marilyn). They supplement all this with excellent advice, board games (if you need them), a library ranging from high-brow literature to romance rubbish. They thoughtfully provided flawless August weather (like San Diego, only brisker), and prevented Bárðarbunga from ruining the end of our trip. Gnomes were surely present, but we didn’t meet any. Make quick and easy excursions by car to top sites in Suðurland. We look forward to our next visit, which hopefully Eyjafjallajökull or some other will not bring to a fiery end.
“Superbe maison très bien située”
Nous avons passé dix jours dans ce cottage avec nos enfants de 14, 12 et 5 ans. La maison est superbe, conforme aux photos, spacieuse et très confortable. C'est un excellent point de départ pour visiter les sites les plus touristiques d'Islande, mais aussi des coins moins fréquentés par les touristes comme les piscines municipales des environs. Nous sommes partis à regret, nous aurions été heureux de rester encore plus longtemps.
“Stunning House in Magical Setting”
We very much enjoyed our stay at Dynjandi cottage! The photos on the web are so lovely, it was hard to believe the actual place would hold up, but I am happy to report that the pictures are completely accurate. The view is wonderful and the setting is rural, peaceful and serene. There is amazing light in every room. The kitchen is spotless and well equipped. Everything seems brand new. There are many comfortable places to sit and enjoy the amazing landscape. For four adults and three kids, we never felt crowded. It was so enjoyable to spend time there, we felt that it was part of the vacation just being in the house. Nearby it was easy to make expeditions to the crater, the geyser park and the waterfalls, all within a half hour drive. It took about 45 min to get to Pingvellir park and perhaps another 20 minutes past that to a great pony trekking place, Laxnes. From Laxnes to Reykjavik was perhaps another 20 minutes. To the south it was a quick drive to Selfoss for the larger grocery stores and to meet up with the coastal route either back to the airport or to the glacier parks etc. to the east. There is a wonderful hike near Selfoss -- Reykjadalur -- where you can bathe in a hot river. About a thirty minute drive. All in all we loved Iceland and a big part of it was the beauty and serenity of this house. I would also add that the owners were incredibly responsive and reliable, meeting us just when they said they would and patiently answering our many questions. They went to extra trouble to arrange our fishing license. Would highly recommend this rental, and hope to return someday!
Response from the owner Dear Guest, Thank you very much for taking your precious time to share your thoughts and experience following your recent stay with us. Thank you for your fantastic review and 5 star rating! We were delighted to read through your wonderful comments, we will always be on our toes to have everything 100%. We certainly look forward to welcome you back in the future Greetings from Iceland Sincerely, Sigridur & Arni
The house was perfect for our family of 7 located in a beautiful setting with the river flowing past. Also very accessible to the tourist attractions incluing Gulfoss and Geyser. Kitchen and living area is great and we cooked most of our meals there (which saves a lot of money with a big family). Kids and dad enjoyed the hot tub! Dad enjoyed the wireless access so he could keep a check on work emails - only occasionally though... Made our stay in Iceland a holiday to remember.
“Highlight of trip to Iceland!”
We only had 5 days to explore Iceland and this home provided us the perfect location for seeing so many beautiful and interesting attractions. After a day of sightseeing, it was always a treat to come back to this stunning, immaculately clean abode to cook dinner and gaze out at the amazing landscape from the living room. I am so glad that we opted to stay out in the country versus staying in a hotel in Reykjavik. We were fly fishing at midnight and we were blessed to see an arctic fox as well. The owners were very pleasant and helpful in orchestrating our visit.
“Beautiful modern cottage situated in scenic location”
We really enjoyed our stay at Dynjandi cottage, a beautiful, minimalist building which has been thoughtfully and luxuriously decorated. The accommodation itself was first rate with lovely comfortable beds and a very well stocked, sleek kitchen. The views are out of this world (There are amazing picture windows in the living area) and constantly alter with the ever changing weather. It was great to come back to such a lovely house after a tiring day of sightseeing and we enjoyed simply looking out at the amazing scenery with the sound of the Bruara river running by. The children also enjoyed the selection of films available to watch! As a base for exploring, the cottage is well situated with the main sights of the Golden Circle being easily accessible. We also drove to the Blue Lagoon one day and as far east as Jokulsarlon another. Travelling with two children (ages 5 and 9), we visited some of the local swimming pools; our favourite being the open air pool at Borg which has a fantastic slide, a good size awimming pool, hot tubs and sauna. It was great fun and really memorable swimming in the rain! Sigridur was very helpful offering useful information about local places of interest and things to do before we arrived in Iceland and while we were there. She was always a pleasure to deal with. We had a great stay and would love to come back for a winter break and see the Northern Lights!
“Best family vacation ever”
First time in Iceland, traveled with family (3 pre-teen kids) and in-laws, and loved it! The views and surroundings are stunning. Owners met us at the house on our schedule (after we spent the afternoon at the blue lagoon) and gave us comprehensive directions on how to make the most of our week there. The house was immaculate, plenty of very comfortable common areas, and the "cottage" gave us as much privacy as we wanted. Location is about an hour+ away from Reykjavik, but Selfoss is close and there are numerous small towns nearby to peruse. You are not going for the nightlife...because it never got dark! The nature is breathtaking, glaciers, geyser, volcanos, law rock, caving, horseback riding, all a short drive away. And you can literally fish on the property. Got to appreciate Mother Earth, and bond with my family, and enjoy a alternative pace of life. I would recommend strongly, especially with kids 6+.
