“Close to heaven”

Reviewed 24 Apr 2012

It has to seen. The beauty cannot merely be described. Incredible garden's. amazing food, beautiful pool and an absolutely amazing sunset every night. You really cannot be disappointed. It is truly an oasis carved out of the side of a mountain. The service is top rate! I have been traveling to Nicaragua for 21 years and I have seen a lot of beautiful places. This one is at the top.

“Spectacular Setting”

Reviewed 24 Apr 2012

Couldn't be a more beautiful or (as mentioned) spectacular setting. Breathtaking is the most apt description for this amazing place. It is as beautiful as any setting anyone could hope to find...anywhere. As wonderful as the place was and as authentic and genuine as the people are, the owner (Robert) is a truly gracious host - he is extremely kind and always looking for ways to make your stay even better - whether it is setting you up on a guided tour of Grenada, or changing his Sunday afternoon plans to take you to the local (and very real) rodeo in Esquamequita. Robert was a superb host and his kindness makes you feel very much on vacation! Room Tip: All the rooms were amazing - super clean with huge bathrooms

“Heavenly Oasis”

Reviewed 23 Apr 2012

"Heavenly Oasis” Reviewed March 23, 2012 Our family of five (3 college-age chldren) ended a terrific 2 week trip through Nicaragua at Orquidea del Sur. What an absolutely fabulous place to unwind and relax after significant trekking. As we had seen much of the country already, we spent our days at Orquidea relaxing by their beautifully landscaped and well-coiffed gardens and pool. We did go to San Juan Del Sur one day with their driver who was very helpful. En route, we were priviledged to be asked to deliver backpacks filled with school supplies to local indigent children. We got to go into their homes and meet them and see their lives in an intimate way not otherwise possible. Joanne is very involved in civic activities and with notice may be able to arrange similar outings. In fact, they would have arranged everything from horseback rising, to boating and spa treatments had we wanted. They also arranged our transport from Morgan's Rock (Grade C) and then upon departure, to the airport. Orquidea has a terrific website and all of the photos depict its beauty accurately. The sunsets are incredible as is the beach. The staff are attentive and anything can be organized as well as requested for meals. We ate three fabulous dinners there. If you want fish - you got it, lamb - freshly got from the field, guacamole - it is yours. Their attention to detail and service rivals or surpasses any well-known 4 star hotels (i.e., Mandarin, Aman, Oberai, Four Seasons, etc) but with local charm. As there are only 5 rooms - you just might have the place to yourself! Rooms 1 and 4 seem like the best as they are brightest but all take advantage of the verdant surroundings. Grade a+ - especially for value.

“"Paradise Found"”

Reviewed 21 Apr 2012

Robert arranged our transportation to Orquidea del Sur.As we turned the last bend, "paradise” came into view..photos do not do it justice. We were greeted by Joanne.Supper that and every evening was served on the patio under the stars. The meals were beautifully prepared by Chef Sara and served by her wonderful staff. All meals were a treat not only to the eye but also to the palate..delicious, fresh and a wonderful variety of local foods. We invited Bob and Joanne to join us for our evening meals. It was wonderful to hear how the resort was built, talk about the Nicaraguan people and hear how they are taken care of not only their staff but also their families. Each morning when awakening from a restful nights sleep, a carafe of coffee was waiting on our private patio and a plate of fresh fruit soon arrived. The entire resort is comfortable, spacious, relaxing, clean and elegantly decorated with attention to every detail both in the rooms, main house and the outside surroundings and gardens.A 10 minute walk down the hill to the beautiful beach was worth the time...15 minutes back, take a dip in the relaxing infinity pool or the upper spa and you are refreshed again. All meals are served at a time of your choosing. You can also choose to dine as a group or privately.Every evening, we enjoyed a glass of wine while listening to the ocean waves roll up onto the beach and watching the most magnificent sunsets we have ever seen. If elegance is what you wish, this is the place to visit. We were treated like royalty but made welcome as family. Bob and Joanne are wonderful hosts, but what impressed us most is how caring they are to their staff. They are affording these young people an opportunity that would not otherwise be possible. The week came to an end much to quickly but one thing we do know..we will definitely return..we truly did find paradise!

“Heaven on Earth”

Reviewed 21 Apr 2012

As soon as you step through the main gates at Orquidea del Sur you are transported into a place of utmost beauty and tranquility. From the gardens, to the vistas, to the sunsets, to the waterfall pools; the entire property provides the perfect environment for complete physical and mental relaxation. Then add wonderful friendly staff, most gracious host & hostess along with nutritious locally grown & superbly prepared food; you have a place that is as close to heaven as possible (I think so since I have not been there and I can only imagine this is how it is)! Thanks to everyone for making our stay at Orquidea del Sur such a truly memorable occasion. You have created the perfect place to just "get away and forget” allowing oneself to just live. Robert & Chris.
