“A wonderful retreat spot to turn off and tune in!”

Reviewed 24 Mar 2015

We booked at Tantalus Retreat for a chance to spend some quality time as a couple away from the busy city lifestyle, electronics, screens, chores etc. We expected a cozy cottage to hide out and spend our time relaxing in the hot tub, enjoying the view. Tantalus provided us with this and MORE! We were very impressed with the off the grid nature of the retreat and the incredible care and attention in the construction and craftsmanship in the interior of the cottage. We felt very welcome and well cared for. The specially marked forest trails and the building that houses the wonderful collection of twisted, bulbous wooden treasures were delightful. The location is close to so many recreational opportunities so if you want to hike, ski, snowshoe, ride a gondola to the top of a mountain or even enjoy the wonderful Scandinave Spa and a gourmet dinner out in Whistler all is possible with this lovely cottage as your home base. There was only two of us but with three bedrooms we would love to come back with friends and family some time! Thanks so much to Warren for his kind hospitality!

“Best kept secret in British Columbia!”

Reviewed 16 Aug 2014

My husband and I were looking for somewhere extra special to celebrate our 25th Wedding anniversary and after searching the internet for some time, I finally came across the Tantalus View Retreat. The pictures and the write up sounded amazing but the reality surpassed our expectations. A cosy cabin with the most breathtaking view, tucked away discreetly amongst the trees, it made a most exceptional hideaway from which to explore the beautiful surrounding landscape. Our hosts were extremely welcoming and accommodating, making us feel very much at home. There was plenty of information provided only local amenities and attractions, plus the owners had created some great hikes straight from the cabin - brilliant for exploring the immediate environment. In addition, the retreat is conveniently close to the Sea to Sky Highway, being within 30 mins drive of Whistler (with access to an array of activities and facilities) and 1-2 hours drive of Vancouver - in Canadian terms, just round the corner! I would highly recommend the Tantalus View Retreat as an excellent hide away with an unbeatable view - great alternative to a hotel and way more comfortable than camping!

“A BC treasure!”

Tantalus snow capped mountain range is the crowning glory of this Chalet. Perfect spot for a quiet romantic getaway with hot tub and all! Fully stocked kitchen and the unique wood work created by the host Warren adds to the charm. Love the bathroom sink, gorgeous! This vacation rental is a must!

“Romantic, Peaceful, Private, Stunning!”

Reviewed 21 Jan 2014

Warren and Rochelle are lovely hosts, and offer a very private, clean and user friendly getaway. Warren has carved out 6 or 7 trails in the surrounding forest that are well marked and he provides a map to navigate them with. The views are even more breathtaking than the pictures, and the cabin itself is cozy and romantic, with all the amenities one could need. Superb!

“Quiet Evenings - Fabulous Fishing”

Reviewed 1 Sep 2013

Tucked away from the hustle of the city, this is truly a retreat!! Quiet evenings on the porch overlooking the amazing Tantalus mountain range is awe inspiring. Your hosts will make certain you are comfortable and have as much privacy as you want - or provide great suggestions on what to do in the area. Fabulous fishing on the Squamish River is just a few miles in and the salmon run here frequently - all different types! You can fly fish or use a spin reel - but you will see lots of fish. The house is very comfortable and well stocked with the basics for cooking if you desire - or grilling - and has a certain "home" feel to it. The amazing art pieces around the property are a site to behold - you may want to take one home with you!! You won't be disappointed with your stay here - just come, relax and enjoy!

“Serenity at its best!!!”

Reviewed 15 Jun 2013

The cabin is up in a place where it is completely private. The scenery is breathtaking. The cabin itself was extremely clean, beautiful decor and had everything you could possibly need other than your clothes!! The owners are lovely friendly people who were really nice and helpful. The bedroom upstairs has a balcony that looks over the mountains and the bed was very comfortable. The kitchen was stocked very well even with wine glasses and they supplied games and videos as well. It really was a perfect weekend away from the kids!!! Peaceful and romantic. I would recommend this cabin to couples or families! We will be back!!!

“A once in a lifetime experience!”

Being two australians in our mid 20's we decided to plan a five-month trip travelling around The United States and Canada. We were in search of amazing sights, spectacular adventures, breath-taking views and most importantly, our first White Christmas. Our journey sure delivered on all of these factors but nothing quite compared to our time spent at the Tantalus View Retreat with Warren, Rochelle and their faithful shepherd Bella. From the moment we spotted Warren, on his tractored quad bike, a cheeky grin beaming out from under his Santa hat, we knew this was going to be an adventure we wouldn't forget in a hurry. Warren and Rochelle promptly settled us into our Winter Wonderland comfortably for our 10 night stay, giving us a crash course in off grid living. Over the duration of our stay, we were treated to such warmth and kindness by our Canadian hosts, from home made Christmas hampers, helping us find and decorate our first real Christmas tree, inviting us over for nights of supper, music and great stories, to Warren taking us on snow-shoe day adventures. We were led through magical old growth forests, and high up onto spectacular glaciers that were definitely worthy of an australian ''Cooeee''. We were left mesmerized as Warren would take us around each new bend or up to another breathtaking viewpoint, places where we would stop for delicious 'Rochelle made' picnic lunches and cold beers. The chalet and our Tantalus mountain adventures allowed us to take in a quiet that seems to get lost in the hustle of home life. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we decided to book a second visit to round out the last four nights of our holiday. The Tantalus View retreat was unlike anything we had ever experienced before and we will never forget our days spent tobogganing mountain slopes, taking in the marvelous sights, or the many nights spent relaxing and stargazing with a wine in the hot tub. This retreat and its hosts are definitely worth a visit!

“The ultimate romantic retreat”

Reviewed 27 Feb 2013

I surprised my boyfriend by booking us the Romantic Package at the retreat back in October. I opted for the romantic package, which included a bottle of tasty apothic Red wine and a beautiful selection of pink roses. The package was well worth the extra price and it definitely added to the romance factor. We also brought our golden retriever with us (an extra $20 per night) and he loved it so much! All in all we probably spent about the same price for our weekend as we would have for a higher-end suite at a boutique hotel, but the payoff was incomparable. First off, when we arrived at the retreat we climbed the stairs which featured an absolutely gorgeous rustic railing made out of found wood - one of many personal touches that added so much to the natural charm. Words simply can not describe how stunning the view was when we ascended the stairs. The cabin itself was absolutely fantastic - it was stocked with everything we could have possibly needed, and more. Although the weather was mostly overcast and we would have been content to sit and read by the gas fireplace, the natural surroundings were just so beautiful that we found ourselves many times going outside to explore the trails. The trails were already marked for us, which I thought was a really nice touch. We had a great time walking around with our dog and a thermos of coffee. Heaven! =) I think our favorite part of the retreat (if we had to pick just one) was relaxin in the giant natural-spring water hot tub.. the temperature was always perfect and sipping wine while looking at the stars at night.. just wow. On top of everything, the owners Rochelle and Warren were wonderful and so helpful from our first communication to seeing us off and making sure we enjoyed our stay. We hope to make it back soon. This place is really 10 stars. Definitely bring a camera if you decide to check this place out. -Sarah and Jason

“Breathtaking and comfortable”

Reviewed 19 Sep 2012

My husband and I just got home and I am already planning our return trip! Words do not do justice for the amazing experience of staying here. Soaking in the hot tub on the deck is enough to make you cry, whether at night and looking up at thousands of stars, or during the day and looking at the magnificent mountain view. Warren and Rochelle have thought of everything to make your stay unbelievably comfortable. We never turned on the tv, but there is a large variety of movies available to watch, books and magazines to read, and cd's to listen to.A very well stocked kitchen, incredibly comfortable beds and furniture, great bbq and very informative and charming hosts. There are so many charming touches I can't list them all. The hosts are artists and it is evident everywhere you look. The love and care that goes into the place is obvious, from the micro hydro system, to the trails that Warren has built. The trails are challenging with breathtaking views. We loved it here and have the advantage of it being close to home. We will be returning...often.

“Simply amazing”

Reviewed 6 Sep 2012

We had a wonderful vacation. The chalet is simply amazing. The views are stunning and everything in the house was just comfortable. The hot tub is perfect and we had so many plans, but in the end you just want to stay at this wonderful place and enjoy the beautiful nature. There are lots of hiking trails, Squamish, Brackendale and Whistler are very close by and also Vancouver. Also places like Shannon Falls Provincial Park, Alice Lake or Brandywine Falls are very close by. There are only two neigbors in the area (one of them are the owners), but you don't see or hear anything. It just feels like you are alone on top of the world. Warren and Rochelle (the owner) are very helpful and friendly. Once the heater was not working, but Warren came by immediately and fixed it. All in all it is a very speical place and I'd love to come back again soon.
