The Doll house was such an exquisite stay! We had a couples retreat for Valentines day and the stay at this lake house was awesome from the moment we got here. The tub amazing, the kitchen amazing, and stay extraordinary! The lake was frozen but it was all worth it. I am already booking it for Spring 2013!! Thank you Mary (homeowner)!! She is great and helpful from the start!!!
Response from the owner Again I have to say that it is easy providing a wonderful stay for such thoughful and pleasant renters! Jon and I spoke on the phone and I knew right away that he was going to love the home and that the home would return that favor! I am looking forward to his return.Thank you Jon.
“Fantastic House -- Lake, Poor”
Yes, the house is wonderful. Beautiful views abound, it's well stocked with everything you'd want, and extremely clean. A five-star place. That said, the lake's dreadful, in our opinion. It's murky-black. We did go swimming in it, however, but it's so murky you can't see your thighs in the water, much less the bottom. Our twenty-something son wanted to swim across it, and I kept thinking, if he goes under you'd never see him. As it was, he did swim across and we followed in a row boat. We would definitely return were it not for the lake.
Response from the owner This guest creates the suggestion that our lake might not be suitable for swimming...nothing could be further from the truth! Like the vast majority of southern tier lakes in New York State, all of which are in varying stages of utrification (the natural aging process of a lake) Kinderhook Lake is a natural, spring-fed, glacially created lake within an agrarian environment. "Murky" water, as this renter puts it, is not unusual in this environment, in fact it is the norm. All you have to know for your safety and enjoyment is that NY State DEC has listed Kinderhook Lake as a Class "B" Lake. To use their words: Class "B" defines a lake whose "best uses are: primary and secondary CONTACT RECREATION and FISHING. In addition a Class "B" lake must be "suitable for fish, shellfish and wildlife propagation and survival”. Three generations of our family have all learned to swim at Kinderhook Lake and countless renters have written us to applaud the lake, noting its many merits. I offer you a small sampling: • “I’ve never relaxed so much in my life. My husband and child lived in the water and boats our entire vacation” • “David caught the biggest Bass of his life. It’s hard to sum up all the rest, relaxation, fun and enjoyment we experienced here” • “Had a wonderful time here, your hospitality was second to none. We all enjoyed the water, the boats and most of all the peace and quiet” • This is the 5th time we have been to the Doll House, twice with Priscilla and 3 times on our own and each has been enjoyable and memorable. It’s been a restful week. We thought the lake would be freezing after such a cold winter and so much rain this spring but it was just right. Thanks again for the hospitality” • What a wonderful week this week has been in the Doll House! A week of swimming and fairy house making (for lake fairies of course!) fishing, quiet mornings by the glassy lake, playing in secret hiding places in the house and exploring the area! It was always wonderful to come back to your lovely house where comfort has been so well thought out and we have felt so welcome! We hope to return next year! There is so much more to explore! I hope this explanation clears up the confusion that must have existed for this renter, who obviously rented a house on a lake…not one next to a swimming pool! Sincerely and Cordially, Mary H
“Wonderful Home In a Beautiful area!!!”
I fell in love with this home the first day I walked in. With the spacious rooms and wonderful living areas its the best home away from home. All luxuries at its finest. Grand views of the lake all year round. Minutes from local restaurants. The communication with the owner for the property is quick and efficient. The owner is one of the most thoughtful and caring rental relationships you could ever have. The neighborhood is wonderful tucked away in a small town right on the lake. Still close to the city and other attractions. I would stay here every season. I will be back thats for sure.
Response from the owner This wonderful renter took the house from Nov through early June, and while he was able to enjoy a little boating on the lake, he had to depart before the weather was suitable for swimming. We do hope to see him return in the not too distant future. Fondly, Mary H
