“Beautiful views, wonderful people, and super affordable!”
When I started planning my trip to Monteverde, I was very discouraged because, as a recent college grad, I was on a tight budget. Every hotel I looked at online wanted much more money than I could have possibly paid. I was getting very discouraged because I wanted the experience of being in a cloud forest and not in a hostel. Then I stumbled upon Casa Cielo and it turned out to be everything I could ever dream of. We were greeted by Veronica and her friend who had lived there for 3 years. They were very welcoming and had snacks for us when we arrived (homemade tortillas, queso fresco, and plantains, yum!) and their families were out on the farm collecting fruit for us! After they left, my boyfriend and I were perfectly happy to just sit and enjoy the AMAZING view (and I can't stress that word enough, it truly was incredible). We enjoyed the organic, home grown coffee they provided us as we sat on the second floor balcony watching the sunset. The town is very close and only took us about 5-10 minutes to reach. It has everything you could need or want! The people there are very friendly and have no problem helping you if you need it. We ate at Taco Taco for most of our meals, because it was just that good! The cabin itself is adorable and cozy. We did have a few, large friends (of the 8 legged variety) greet us after the sun went down but we left them to do their job in keeping the rest of the buggies out! We also made friends with the neighborhood doggies and picked up a bag of food for them while we were in town. They loved it and would greet us every time we went out the door! Unfortunately, we were unable to see the toucans but we did see a variety of beautiful and interesting birds (and some even came to wake us up in the morning by knocking on our window!). All in all, Casa Cielo is just spectacular. The views are gorgeous, whether sun up or down, and the cabin makes you feel right at home. I really wish we had planned to stay more than two nights. Thank you to Veronica and family for sharing your piece of paradise! It was everything we hoped for and more.
“Amazing View - Fantastic Location - Incredible Owners”
The views are superb, and the house has everything that you will need. What makes it so amazing, however, are the owners. They will not only make the most of your time but inspire you. They do all of that without being the slightest bit intrusive. You have all of the privacy that you could want. Our young kids just loved it, and so did we. Thank you so much Stuart, Veronica and alejandro. And don't miss the trip to the hot springs. Amazing.
“Beautiful Mountain aery”
We join the chorus of praise in heartily endorsing Casa Cielo. This cosy mountain aery of an a-frame sits just over the crest of a ridge in Lindora just off Rte. 606, about 3 km south of Santa Elena. Casa Cielo features an open floor plan with a kitchen, dining and living room main floor and a bedroom with a large tub and porch upstairs. There is also a loft bed, accessible with a ladder. The house can easily accommodate a couple of people and 1-2 children. We particularly appreciated the attention to detail and all the amenities. Our host, Veronica Sheehan, has written out clear instructions for everything. The house includes a washing machine and things like a coffee grinder, blender and enough cookware to be easily self-sufficient. And, speaking of coffee grinder, Veronica and her husband, Alex, grow their own organic coffee and kept us in s steady supply over the course of our stay. What a treat! The view to the West is spectacular: overlooking a valley below and the Nicoya Bay and Peninsula in the distance. The sunsets were stunning and we would sit on the porch each evening to take in the vista. The bird life is rich and diverse. We saw toucans, toucanets, mot-mots, and a host of flycatchers and seedeaters. Howler monkeys were often heard around dawn echoing across the valley. On our arrival, we were greeted by Veronica and her son, Stuart, who had prepared lunch for us. Veronica got us oriented to the house and things to do in the area. After lunch, Stuart gave us a tour of the property. As a budding naturalist, he is very observant and pointed out plants, birds, insects and other denizens around the house. Veronica is a delightful host: thoughtful, attentive and more than happy to help arrange tours, guides, and to suggest activities. We encourage you to check with her as she has a good handle on the many options available to you. We highly recommend Casa Cielo! Be sure to book ahead.
“Peaceful, nature rich, spiritual and spirit cleansing.”
Veronica. It's going to be hard to limit what I have to say about our stay at Casa Cielo. I started missing it the day we left. Your welcome was the beginning of a vacation we'll never forget. For birders, as we are, it was heaven. I can't express what it was like to wake every morning to the forest sounds. We fell in love with, not just Casa Cielo, but this area of Costa Rica! Your care and helpfulness with anything we needed to know or do was much appreciated. There are several wonderful sodas in Santa Elena which serve the best casados. One that comes to mind is La Salvadila. The owner encouraged us to try out our minimal Spanish, without feeling intimidated. The food, so-called "typical" for Costa Rica is wonderful. The Blue Morphos Cafe is also wonderful if you want more chef oriented meals. We visited The Monteverde Cheese Factory, impressive ice cream and cheeses, the Casem Coop, a local artisan business (terrific unique souviners), Curi Cancha Reserve, Monteverde Reserve, and The Children's Eternal Rainforest Reserve. We also took the Sky Tram up above the canopy. Awesome views! There is so much to see and do there, we didn't get to half of it! What we enjoyed as much as anything was sitting on the balcony at Casa Ciela and looking out over the beautiful land. Oh, and I can't forget "Snookie" our new friend and "vacation dog" who kept us from missing our own furries at home. We miss you too Snooks!
We arrived after dark and in the rain, but the owner, Veronica, was there to meet us with a smile and a hot Costa Rican dish! What a great start to a fabulous week at Casa Cielo. The house itself sits on a mountainside with a canopy view. The birdlife there is incredible and you're only 10 minutes from shops and restaurants in Santa Elena. The first morning we went to the local farmer's market and stocked up on local fruits/veggies and had a terrific breakfast before continuing our shopping at Super Compro for groceries, etc. The next few days were spent hiking the cloud forest reserves, ziplining, and touring the hummingbird and butterfly gardens. We made sure to eat at several of the local restaurants, including the Casem Co-op. Excellent spot for lunch if hiking Curi Cancha or Monteverde cloud forest reserves. Be sure to stop in at the cheese factory for the ice cream. One of our favorite spots for a quick snack or lunch in Santa Elena was Taco Taco! Some of the best street tacos ever! The house at Casa Cielo is also perfect for just hanging out and watching the local birds and wildlife. We fed chickens, played with the dogs and just generally relaxed with a glass of wine while waiting for the rewarding sunsets at the end of the day. This is one of our favorite places made even better by the great family that has been willing to share their little piece of paradise.
“Amazing views and hospitality, hidden gem!”
Our stay at Casa Cielo was wonderful, secluded yet near the rain forest reserves. The host family went out of its way to ensure we had information prior to our trip about the country, region, and about getting to the house. The house was well stocked with linens, coffee, and other key items for our stay. Our family of 4 (two elementary aged children) were treated to a wonderful Tico snack upon arrival and orientation about the house and local adventure options. The family helped us secure a fun ziplining adventure. It is a fairly short (bumpy) drive into Santa Elena/Monteverde (where we saw the Quetzel). The views from the house are amazing all times of day. The parrots, toucans, and many other birds will turn non-birders into amateur bird watchers. We hiked on the many rugged trails around the house as well, enjoying the banana trees and other nature. Despite afternoon heat the valley breezes kept the house comfortable. The night views of the sunset and stars was great. The balcony hammock provided an amazing way to read a book and to enjoy the constellations.
“We can't wait to return!”
Our only regret of staying at Casa Cielo is that we didn't have longer to stay! This place is a dream come true. Booking it was super easy & Veronica, Alex & Stuart couldn't have been nicer, more hospitable or helpful. The little cabin is so inviting & cozy. We truly came to think of it as our home away from home. The view is to die for, & we practically spent our entire stay on the balcony taking it all in. Birdwatching on the balcony with a glass of wine, or a fresh brewed cup of coffee in the morning...what could be more relaxing? The location is perfect- close enough to all the things you want to do in town (Monteverde Reserve, Selvatura, etc. & shops, restaurants, & the grocery store) but away from the hustle & bustle. At Casa Cielo, you are surrounded by peace. While we enjoyed the reserve & also zip lining & the hanging bridge tour at Selvatura, our favorite part of our time there was the day we went to the neighbor's farm & rode on horseback to their hot spring- not to be missed! & just being at the cabin relaxing & enjoying the surroundings was another highlight... Do not hesitate to book this cabin! You will not regret it or ever forget your stay there. Thank you again & again, V,A, & S! We hope to one day return!
We had the most fabulous time at Casa Cielo. The view is priceless, the cabin cozy, and our hosts, Veronica, Alexander and son, Stuart, couldn't have been more accomodating, and friendly, and that incl. their dogs as well. We were greeted by the hosts, with a lovely, traditional Costa Rican lunch...all organic of course...and much appreciated after a long car ride. The cabin is surrounded by lush vegetation and a bird watchers paradise. Highly recommend it to anybody who wants peace and quiet, and a true Costa Rican experience. Can't wait to visit again and stay at our hosts new place, by the river at "Rancho el Rio", in Monteverde.
“The Best View in Monteverde - Inspiring and Unforgettable Experi”
My wife and I statyed here on Christmas day and boxing day 2012 and it was a gift in itself - I only wish we could have stayed longer. The view is dreamlike and completely unobstructed with more wildlife than you will ever see in the surrounding Reserves and sunsets you will race back to. It's just off the only road to Monteverde and is easily accessible and close to all the attractions in the area. Veronica, Alex and their son Stewart were very gracious hosts and offered a truly unique and inspiring experience with great recommendations for activities and restaurants off the beaten path. We rode horses to a natural hotspring and hiked the Curi Concha Reserve among other things that I would highly recommend. They were waiting for us when we arrived with a delicious home cooked and grown meal and organic coffee. If you're lucky, Stewart will take you on a guided tour of the farm to see toucans, parrots, possums, natural springs, fish ponds and much more. This is a truly special place and if you have an opportunity to stay here, don't hesitate, it's a deal at twice the price and will soon be booked up months and months ahead of time I'm sure. “Romantic view in the clouds”
I stayed here for 3 nights with my wife on our honeymoon trip to Costa Rica and we both fell in love with the cabin and the country. Everything about the cabin was perfect for our needs during our trip and my only regret was not being able to stay here longer. The cabin is in a very private location but still has quick, easy access to Monteverde and Santa Elena. Personal favorites were the perfect temperatures and jaw dropping views provided by the massive windows on both floors. A late night soak in the tub upstairs or a few hours in the hammock on the top deck provide the perfect atmosphere for a relaxed but romantic evening. The family that owns the cabin are incredibly nice people who welcome you into their personal slice of paradise with open arms and smiles. After an impromptu tour of the property and farm with Stuart, we had hand picked organic food to eat for two full days! Make sure to speak with Veronica about the tours available in the area. Her recommendations were fantastic! The horseback/hot springs tour should not be missed by couples. My wife and I both want to return to Costa Rica soon and we will certainly be back to Casa Cielo for another visit to their paradise.
