“Su casa is nuestra casa..”

Reviewed 24 Feb 2015

...at least for two weeks. May 2015 will be five years for us staying at the lovely Casa del Platero and our 13th year in Zihuatanejo. We typically stay for two weeks and prefer the low season. We agree with all of the reviews that tell you how lovely the house and grounds are, how beautiful Playa Ropa is and about the great restaurants and local activities. And while we love the location, privacy of the house, having a pool to ourselves and the beach just steps away, what keeps us coming back to Casa del Platero are Mirella and Laco, the caretakers of the property. From the minute you arrive, they greet us like long lost relatives with cold beer and fresh guacamole. They are both so kind and friendly and more than willing to try accommodate any request we have. Mirella prepares breakfast every morning and upon request will prepare other meals. I highly recommend her huachinango de ajo. Laco arranges fishing trips and gone fishing with us as our guest: makes dinner reservations, so far as to driving to the restaurant to make the reservation when we couldn't reach them by phone; takes us to the "secret local" pozolerias on Thursdays and to la cancha on Sundays. They both go above and beyond to make our stay there stress-free and memorable. You can be in the most expensive and beautiful resort anyone has ever seen, but if you are treated poorly how beautiful is it really? Casa del Platero is beautiful, but all the more so because of Mirella and Laco.

Response from the owner Many of our guests choose to come back each year to Casa del Platero and we are pleased and proud of this. We have watched as relationships and traditions have developed over the years between our guests and our staff and I can tell you that they look forward to the repeat visits at least as much as our guests! Thank you to all of our guests for the kindness and respect you show to our hardworking staff. And we're so pleased to be able to share a little bit of paradise with you, too! Look forward to seeing you next time! Melissa and Dave

“The ideal location combining beach access, view and privacy”

Reviewed 10 Nov 2014

This lovely home sits on a knoll at the south end of La Ropa Beach giving it a spectacular view of Zihuatanejo Bay yet beach access right out the front gate. You can get away from the bustle of the beach and enjoy the private pool and gardens or head to either La Ropa Beach or Las Gatas for a day of beach activities. The house if filled with original art work, oil paintings, and works by local sculptors. The kitchen was awesome…granite counters, talavera tile and new appliances. Our family likes to cook so we made good use of this. But there is an on-site staff of two who live on the premises who will also cook for you and who went out of their way for us. They helped arrange a fishing trip and made restaurant reservations for us - and just were always at hand to respond to anything we needed. We felt well taken care of and wrapped in comfort, security and the beauty of this special place.

“Perfect”

Reviewed 3 Apr 2014

This was the perfect getaway for us (5 people, 3 generations)! The location couldn't be better, the house was absolutely perfect, the pool is incredible. On top of that Laco and Mirella are wonderful and so helpful. They looked after us so well and we so appreciated their cooking and shopping for us. We could not have been happier with our week away. Being able to be on the beach within about 100 paces was so nice. further to that, access to 2 other beaches within minutes was great. we would go to the beach for several hours, have lunch and drinks at one of the many beach restaurants and then retire to our own private patio and pool over-looking the bay! All of us would go back in a hearbeat. Last but not least, the owners, Dave and Melissa, were so accomodating and gracious. If you want to relax, enjoy the beach, have some privacy, and watch the sun set from your personal infinity pool, stay here.

“We had a lovely time”

Reviewed 23 Jan 2014

We had a lovely time at your home in Zihuatanejo. The upstairs was very comfortable for us and satisfactorily appointed. We found the setting of your home to be magnificent. The artwork was beautiful and the the featured artist is very talented. Your recommendations of things to do and places to eat or shop were spot on. We ate at Il Mare, Kau Kan, El Mediterraneo and La Perla. All of which were great. We bought groceries at Mercado Municipal which was a wonderful experience. We went shopping at arte Mexicano Nopal and watched a local league basketball game at the Court in Centro. We have rented homes all over the world and what made yours truly exceptional was your staff. The staff was attentive, friendly, genuinely caring and very good at what they do. We had an exceptional home cooked meal. It was a very relaxing trip. We have fond memories. I highly recommend your home. We will look forward to staying with you again.

“Paradise!!”

Reviewed 8 Jan 2014

We have been to Zihuatanejo many times at the resorts. Our own private paradise in our hectic lives was heaven! Laco and Mirella, the caretakers of the property were great, she fixed us many fine meals, and Laco was very helpful. It was nice to have someone willing to take us anywhere, shop & cook for us. We needed mindless tranquility and this piece of paradise was exactly what we needed. The infinity pool overlooking the bay was spectacular and the grounds were like our own botanical garden. The owners are very helpful, sent us directions as well as great things to do and great places to eat. We took their advice and they were right. We did find the seafood platters on La Ropa beach were wonderful. Fresh lobster, guacamole, fish tacos..superb! Melissa & Dave are wonderful open to suggestions and extremely helpful. We will definitely be repeat guests. I'm being bragadocious but just this last year we caught mahi-mahi, fresh tuna and 7 sailfish, all weighing over 130 lbs. Wonderful, wonderful!! T.R. and Cat

Response from the owner Congratulations T.R. and Cat for your impressive catch! We've been deep-sea fishing a few times in Zihua (with not nearly such successful results) but have discovered that there's nothing like the taste of fresh- caught fish. We look forward to having you guys back...thanks for being such great guests. Melissa and Dave

“A private paradise”

Reviewed 1 Aug 2013

Casa del Platero was the perfect place for our group of 6 australians to relax in Zihuatanejo. The house is in a quieter part of town, but only a stone's throw from the best strip of local beach. We walked into the busier part of town a few times (an easy 1/2 hour) and a taxi is only a few dollars. If you're interested in any "night life" the best you can do is Ixtapa which is a cab ride away. But this is more of a place to relax, not party. The house itself is lovely. We rented the entire property so had two floors of ample space, with a few different living areas and comfortable bedrooms. There was a/C in two of the bedrooms and fans in the others. It did get very warm in the non-A/C rooms at night, but it was bearable. The best part was the infinity pool overlooking the ocean- a perfect place to start or end the day and take in the sunset. There are three bathrooms which was handy, although the showers were quite chilly. Laco and Mirella are fantastic hosts who live in a separate dwelling at the back of the property. Laco took care of bookings and maintenance, while Mirella cleaned and made us the best breakfasts and dinners of the trip. I would highly recommend having her cook an authentic meal. They were always helpful but never intrusive. The owner Melissa was great to communicate with and quick to respond. If you want to avoid the condos and have your own luxurious space, this is a wonderful place to stay. But keep in mind this is a Mexican beach, so be prepared to encounter mosquitoes, lizards and even crabs!

“Ready to go back...”

Reviewed 18 Jul 2013

This was our second trip to Zihuat, and it was fantastic. Jaco and Mirella are awesome! The only advantage to leaving was the fact I stopped gaining weight due to Mirella's fantastic cooking. Close to the center of town, fine dining, marina, (We caught 7 Sailfish) everything you need for a great vacation.

Response from the owner Thanks, Jason! Yes, Mirella's cooking gets star billing at Casa del Platero. Congrats on the tremendous success with the fishing expedition...7 sailfish is a record for us! Melissa and Dave

“Perfect Zihua”

We have visited many places in Mexico, and this is definitely our favorite. We have been to the villa twice with friends and hope to go again. The villa has beautiful grounds, comfortable accomodations, a wonderful patio/sitting area, an infinity pool, and gorgeous views and sunsets. This is a wonderful place with a great staff. Flaco is always helpful and accomodating, and Mirella prepares the best Mexican food we have ever eaten. Comfortable, charming, quaint, relaxing. Great Vacation.

A wonderful place and Merillia is the best Mexican cook on the planet--a place to relax and enjoy the surroundings--relaxing and right on the beach

“Amazing house - perfect location”

Reviewed 28 Mar 2013

My friends and I had a wonderful time at the Casa Platero. We rented the lower floor--recommended for it's direct access to the patio and the pool. The house was exactly what we were looking for: unique, beautiful, comfortable, and impossibly well located. The grounds keeper and his family were very helpful and took good care of us during our stay. We would not have changed a thing. Some time in the future I hope to return to the Casa Platero with a whole bevy of friends in tow, hopefully for a much longer stay.
