This house is pure magic, and so is Karl. Everything was perfect. Cozy nooks everywhere. Beautiful property and woods. everything and more. Cozy beds, clean clean everything, amazing bathrooms and showers. Karl is one of the most exceptional humans. He is so so kind and accommodating. He was seen only when planned, and Im so happy I had the opportunity to be in his presence as he is such a wonderful, now, friend. Hes lead such a creative and generous life sharing his art of music, meditation, human potential and his high vibrations allover the globe. SO much Yes and Thank you Karl. Im so Happy to have spent time in your lovely home and meeting you!

“Quiet and cozy”

Reviewed 17 Jul 2016

We really enjoyed our recent stay in Karl's cabin in Monterey, MA. It felt wonderfully removed from the city noises we are used to. It was remote, quiet, and cozy for a day in or a day sitting down by the lake which was only a two minute walk from the front door. It also was not a bad trip from the cabin to Lenox, Great Barrington, and other towns. We felt it was a good central location to all the places on our destination list in the Berkshires. The cabin itself was clean and I really appreciated that the kitchen and bathrooms have recently been updated. The spa tub and showers with their multiple jets felt amazing after a long day of hiking. Karl himself was also very friendly and said we could call him any time with questions. He generously allowed us to eat from his garden and so we gorged during our trip on ripe, juicy raspberries. We plan on coming again!

“Relaxing Getaway”

Reviewed 19 Jul 2015

What a relaxing, quiet getaway! The cabin was rustic, roomy and secluded. Fully stocked with just about everything you could possibly need to enjoy your stay. We saw two bears, deer, foxes and lots of chipmunks! Beautiful wooded, private yard, short walk to Lake Garfield. We fished on the dock, sketched and enjoyed the cool nights. It is an easy drive to Lee and/or Stockbridge for plenty of shopping, antiquing, art, etc. The house has Wifi, a big plus, as there is no cell service or cable TV. Huge TV in the master BR, so bring your cable to hook up to Netflix off your laptop!

“Perfectly cozy, yet convenient”

Reviewed 1 Nov 2013

My husband and I and our two dogs stayed in this perfectly cozy cottage last month for our anniversary. It was beautiful and rustic, but also had all the modern conveniences that we needed. We cooked our meals in the fully equipped kitchen and enjoyed the wood burning stove every evening. It was wonderfully peaceful and the absolute perfect getaway. Karl Finger, the owner, is close but respected our privacy. He is always willing to help with anything needed. We can't wait to get back to "our cabin in the woods"!!

“Perfect relaxation week”

Reviewed 30 Sep 2013

We had such a good time at this house! It's clean and very comfortable, with a good kitchen and bathroom equipment, a nice Tempur-Pedic bed in the master bedroom (you can even heat the mattress during cold nights, which is a wonder if you have rheumatism like me), an efficient wood-stove in the living-room and even a piano for music lovers. There is a lovely lawn behind the house where both our cat and dog had fun all day long, as well as a balcony on the second floor where I loved sipping my tea in the morning sun. Most of all, it's located right in the middle of the woods and very close to Lake Garfield, so we completely disconnected from urban stress during the week we stayed there, while also enjoying gourmet shopping at Monterey General Store or having nice little rides in the Berkshires. The owner, Karl, is very professional and hospitable. He had us promise we would come back in the Winter, and it will be hard not to.

“Nice Family Weekend”

Reviewed 7 Aug 2013

We had a very nice family weekend with our only regret being that we couldn't stay longer. Karl quickly greeted us, showed us around, and during the course of our stay left his famous rasberries and maple syrup. We enjoyed hiking, swimming, boating and fishing on our own secluded section of Lake Garfield. We did have an unexpected problem in the house but Karl was there within minutes to fix the issue. A nice relaxing, fun weekend was had by all!

“Homey hideaway”

Reviewed 9 Jul 2013

Relaxing and fun. This feels like a real home away from home. One gets the feeling that one's every need has been anticipated. And, indeed any details that might've been missed can be met with a phone call to Karl.

“A pleasant stay in a beautiful wooded area.”

Reviewed 18 Jun 2013

The cabin is in a great location near Great Barrington and Stockbridge, ma. We toured the Norman Rockwell museum and the Hancock Shaker Village while there. We also did some hiking in the area and though the trails were still muddy and had spring run off, we enjoyed it immensely. The house was a bit more rustic that we expected but has been improved in important ways. The house is in the woods perched on a hill above Lake Garfield. The lake is not visible from the cottage but it is only a short walk down the hill to the shared dock. The upstairs bedroom is quite nice and the bed is very comfortable. Both baths have been modernized with great showers and a jacuzzi in the upstairs one. There is a wood burning stove which creates a cozy atmosphere in the living area. We played cards every evening at the dining table by the fire. The kitchen is fully equipped with utensils, pots and pans. We cooked our dinners at the cottage and found everything we needed. There is WiFi access which helped us find things to do and there were several hiking books, maps and guides available. Our host, Karl, was friendly but not obtrusive. He provided everything we needed and gave us a bit of homemade maple syrup to take with us. All in all a pleasant stay in a beautiful wooded area.

Karl was exceptionally professional and made every effort to make our time in Monterey comfortable and enjoyable. He responded promptly to e-mails and phone calls and was very nice to meet. To top it off, he shared some of his home-made maple syrup, which was delicious! My family went to go hiking in the Berkshires and only stayed for 1 night. We wish we had had more time to stay longer! The house was clean, spacious and very relaxing. We enjoyed the nice amenities (cool wood stove, screened porch) and hiking around the property. The house comfortably slept all 5 of us. Would highly recommend for those who want to disconnect and enjoy some nature.

“Family Getaway”

Reviewed 26 Mar 2013

We recently took our kids to Hill Cottage. We had the best time. We got to make nice homecooked meals every night, and go sledding and to walks everyday. Karl the owner is a great guy he came down and gave us a tour even taking us upstairs although he had recently gotten hip surgury. He was also kind enough to share his wonderful dog Jessie with my family which my kids loved. The scenery was beautiful especially after the snow we got. We will be coming here again and again. It was an amazing vacation and we could not to happier.
